Is it possible or likely for a chapter to be made from two other chapters? Say Imperial fists didn't have enough geneseed to contribute for the new founding, so another chapter, maybe raven gaurd put up the other needed amount. Is this plausible? Also how does the actual formation of a chapter go about? Where do the new space marines come from and how quickly can a chapter come into existence? Meaning is it only possible to create a chapter every X amount of years?

Space Marine chapter tithe some of their geneseed to the Imperium. The Imperium stores it, checks it for mutation, and then creates new chapters. Creating a chapter requires more then just geneseed, it requires an entire infrastructure be built for the chapter (worlds with stable populations, ships, equipment, support staff, technologically adept support staff, etc.). Could the Imperium create a Chapter from multiple gene seeds? Sure. But why?

The Minotaurs seem to be a chimeric chapter, which is the official term for such a thing.

The Relictors are also supposed to be chimeric; Ultramarines and Dark Angels.

Different authors have different takes it seems. The Minotaurs are stated to be chimeric (tho if memory serves it doesn't actually explain what that means) which is said to be abhorrent.

The Relictors IA on the other hand stated they are believed to be a mix of Ultramarine and Dark Angel geneseed, and goes on to say that the use of Dark Angel geneseed is HIGHLY unusual.. but interestingly doesn't say anything about the use of mixed geneseed being unusual at all.

Very interesting, so their are other "chimeric" chapters, but what would be the benefit of making such a chapter?

I love this idea. I was thinking of iron hands with maybe some other chapter

"We have all and none. Death better come to the other bastard first." - SSG Alton, 19th Valerian Light Infantry Regiment

"With iron and fire the beast shall be lain low at the hands of the Hunters whose home is under the Bloodmoon." - Bloodmoon Hunters Chapter

"Bring on the Angels of Blood and Darkness as thy descend from the heavens to smite our enemies. Let the Wolves of war rend and tear our foes to pieces. And we of the Bloodmoon Hunters shall bring the iron and fire as our vehicles crush all that oppose us under our treads." - Tech-Captain of the Bloodmoon Hunters

It'd be awful hard for a first founding chapter to be chimeric.

From my understanding no one is saying a first founding or even second but a later founding.

Nobody said they were. Despite the quality of their geneseed the High Lords are reluctant to use it because of their distrust of the Dark Angels shadowy nature. That the Relictors IA author felt the inclusion of Dark Angels in the mix was more of note than the fact it was mixed at all implies that mixed geneseed chapters are more common than Dark Angel successors.

Excellence. Marines are not clones, geneseed evolves over time. Generally its just the negatives that get mentioned - Flesh Tearers and Blood Drinkers for example. But you do get the odd improvement, ie: Soul Drinkers took their name from an over-sensitive Omophagea (which is in fact presumably why they actually use progenoids from marines in the first place, instead of getting all marine implants from test-bed slaves). Allowing the AdMech to mix bloodlines allows them to choose the absolute best organs available. There's also a loyalty factor here - a chapter of mixed bloodline would by default have a fragmented sense of familial loyalty - making them less likely to slavishly follow their progenitors wishes and hopefully more amenable to High Lord authority.

Which is funny if HloT are really using a traitor geneseed...

ADB: I showed the Wolves revealing the key weakness at the heart of the World Eaters; showing Angron that his Legion was broken and worthless compared to the others; that he was the one primarch who couldn't trust his own warriors, and that they didn't care if he lived or died; showing that loyalty to brothers and sons is the heart of success for the Legiones Astartes, to the point even Lorgar makes a big deal out of saying the World Eaters and their primarch were massively outclassed by Russ, and Angron was too stupid to see the lesson Russ had sacrificed time, sweat, and blood, to teach. We're talking about a battle the Wolves won, by isolating the enemy general through pack tactics, and threatening to kill him, without a hope of defending himself. It was a balance, 50/50 - Angron overpowered Russ, and the Wolves were losing ground to the World Eaters; but Russ and his warriors had Angron by the balls, and barely broke a sweat. They won, no question. Lorgar even says: "The Wolves won, meathead."

Dorn won’t help you either. He’s too busy being the Emperor’s groundskeeper, hiding behind the palace walls. But try to Imagine remained loyalist combos (from heresy), I mean they can sound more crazy than traitors mixes
Imagine - Vampwolf (imagine wulfen with a black rage), ultra angel (seceretive but not), salaraven (dark as night) or imperial handfist :-)

I actually like the more "unpleasant" chapters a bit more the happy huggy ones, but seriously read the background fluff for the chapter master of the minotaurs....

Well I could see advantages, Imperial Fists lack the ability to Spit Acid don't they?

They could all have a bit of Guilliman inside them, okay it's not Rogal but they are still Space Marines.

Lord Honsou of the Iron Warriors is a an Imperial Fist.

Equally didn't the Iron Warriors raid their Gene-stocks in that Book (cannot remember the name).

Ultramarine Gene-seed is everywhere, Space Wolf and Blood - Angels you just wouldn't want.
