What are the big things for GenCon this year? I know FFG will unleash the new SW RPG beta and that WizKids is launching Star Trek Attack Wing. Any other big things scheduled?

The CMON guys will be there with their 2013 update for Dark Age. I have a friend who is on the games development team, and the rules update for 2013 looks pretty good so far.

I'll be sure to; won't be getting there till Friday evening though.

Will be there all day Sat and Sun; been trying to touch base with a few ADs and Creative Directors on twitter for now, making sure they are there and all

Is this the biggest US convention then? I read that Mantic will be bringing a load of the new Deadzone stuff.

It's not just for war gaming but also for board games and roleplaying games. But yeah, it's one of if not the biggest.

I guess I should clarify, D&D Next is not scheduled to actually release this GenCon. There will be a con-exclusive adventure and later in the month a published adventure, both seemingly set in the Forgotten Realms. I'm not sure but I think they may be "system neutral." Digital portions of the coming published adventure, Murder in Baldur's Gate, indicate the monster stats are D&D Next.

I'll be whisping around there like a ghost in a haunted house, but at the moment have no real set plans. I am supposed to try out the new Pathfinder card game Thursday night, and pick up Ghosts of Dragonspear Castle, but I got my badge so late pretty much every event was already sold out, so it will mostly be on the fly.

Amidst the mists and coldest frosts he thrusts his fists against the posts and still insists he sees the ghosts.

I'm here in Indy at the moment and am happy to meet up with people time permitting. Give me a shout via PM. I'm rambling around for all 4 days.

They really need to let me do some art for that card game :p

I met with two of the Pathfinder ADs at Spectrum and the meeting went really well, but haven't gotten anything to do from them yet. Hopefully seeing an updated portfolio will help with that

Can't wait to meet up with you, lego

For you guys who haven't seen legoburner in the flesh yet, he's the long black-haired guy with facial hair and an awesome accent . Assuming he hasn't changed his looks! But maybe that doesn't narrow it down at a convention...

Driving out part of the way tomorrow and the rest Friday!

Dang, no wonder WOTC is getting its butt kicked by Paizo. What, going on 2 years now in system limbo? Thanks for the correction.

So for people who are there, is it true that WotC has no presence in the Exhibit Hall outside of the GF9 booth?

As I understand it, that is correct Manchu. They have a gigantic gaming area and every third exhibitor seems to be selling MTG cards. The WOTC gaming area has a massive stand selling products through a third party retailer too.

Automatically Appended Next Post:
No battlefront here either, though I saw their head guy (John Paul) yesterday and the GF9 booth has a really tiny bit of FoW stuff.

I guess it makes sense but they were seemingly in a similar position last year and still did the "Year of the Drow" exhibit. The rumor is they're saving money for an all-out launch exhibit for D&D Next in 2014. Maybe "Year of the Drow" did not really pay off?

It's also strange to hear Battlefront isn't there. I see they're lined up for AdeptiCon so maybe they just figure not getting the right crowd at GenCon?

There are more FoW players than GW players that I've seen so far here, but adepticon is much more suitable for wargaming, and historicon and similar seem much more appropriate for FoW too. WOTC are still a primary sponsor of gencon this year so their logo is plastered everywhere too.

So for the day pass my wife and I purchased for Saturday, are there particular things more geared to gals (other than the spouse abandonment room ). She'll go through the wargaming section for me, but I'd like her to see some things she likes, too.

Her "nerdiness" extends about as far as liking The Big Bang Theory tv show, the new Star Trek movies, and Settlers of Catan.

if she wants to do activities check out the events listed under SPA, those are for the spouse. They generally range anything from yoga to knitting to cooking. Basically all that stereotypical female stuff

Take her by the WizKids booth (1809) -- they're doing the new Star Trek Attack Wing game and have done stuff based on the new movies, too. There also should be a bunch of nerdy (a.k.a. steampunkish) jewelry and fashion there. And of course art. Dunno if your missus would be into it but that's generally what I think of as the girlier side of things.

Star Trek Catan is being signed by the original chekov actor today at least. They have a huge catan section including giant catan and a dozen spinoffs. There are a few big bang theory games around (Clue, and a dedicated board game from someone else), also at 5.30 today is the world record for number of people playing catan at once (1000 people) with a $10 entry fee. Happy to adjust timing for meeting up if you wanted to do that.
