I'm curious to see how strongly age correlates with the location where people play most of their games.
Not counting Tournament or Convention play, at what location do you play the majority of your games?
Coincidentally, this might also give us some age stats for Dakka, though those are probably available elsewhere as well.

Over in the Polls section, there is one for age.

I'm mostly a FLGS guy, but do get a reasonable percentage in on home tables. And I still get to say I'm in my 30s.

I play most of my games at either a FLGS or a GW, although I also game at a club/friends houses, it's probably coming on for equal numbers.
I'm just about to transition from 30's to 40's

In that case, for the sake of the poll's overall accuracy, mark where you gamed the most in your 30's.

Age: 40s.
Where I play: Hasn't really changed a lot since my 20s.
Private club (not a store) - as is the way many of our clubs are set up. Either as home things or in venues hired for the purpose.
Whether it be church hall, scout hall, public-house function or board room, etc.
Many even allow (adult) members to partake of alcomaholic beverages whilst playing - in order to foster a less-competitive and more social atmosphere.

In my 20s and I play in a club or at my/other folks' houses. I prefer the more comfortable atmosphere, and most game stores probably won't allow beerhammer. It doesn't help that the game stores around here are all a bit of a hike.

In my area the average age at our local GW is late 20s. Being 24 myself, I fit right in and will continue to until I'm in my mid 30s.
Assuming I'm still into warhammer, by the time I reach my late 30s/40s I'd definitely look for a private gaming club.

Looks like there's a fairly strong progression from GW/FLGS to more private venues as gamers move toward their 30's. Not surprising, but it's nice to see some numbers (albeit a very limited sample size) for it.
Thanks for the responses so far folks. Much Appreciated!

Mid 20s (wtf did that happen? O.o) and I play at my FLGS
It should be noted though that I wouldn't mind playing at a club, it's just that clubs are hard enough to come by here in America, and even less so it seems in Ohio. Though it should be noted Polonius's club is near where I live, I'm just not a part of his circle of friends.

Wait till your 30's - you'll think 'five minutes ago, they were ages away...' Anyway, in my 30's and play at GW/Friends/club (potentially)/Warhammer world. WW is my favourite as they have a bar. I also like Baconhammer - fry up then game = win. TBF - this is also the case when I go to GW. There's a pub a 1min walk ish from the shop.

I'm 29, and I find myself playing more often at home versus the FLGS. There are several reasons for this, but a lot of it has to do with a combination of resources and responsibility. I have more of both.
I have more resources to create and store terrain, tables, and other gaming requirements that are staples of the FLGS, and I have more responsibility with increasing job responsibilities and children, so it is harder to go to the FLGS on a regular basis. This makes it more difficult to participate in things like leagues and campaigns at the FLGS, whereas I can more easily have loosely organized play centered around my home.
For example, in grad school (when I was married and renting with no kids) I would go to the FLGS every Wednesday night from 6 to midnight because that was 40K night at my preferred shop. I traveled to tournaments, participated in events, and so forth.
Today, I can't nip off to the game shop every Wednesday, because that is the day I am most often out of town on business. When I am in town, I can't get to the FLGS much earlier than 7:30-8:00, even on weekends, because otherwise my wife has to handle bath and bed time with the kids by herself, and of course you always pay for stuff like that one way or another, lol.
I can run a game at my house and watch a 3 year old at the same time. I can't police a 3 year old in a game store for several hours.
Everybody's lives are different, but wargaming requires two principle resources: gaming material and gaming community. For some, gaming material is a very limiting factor. If you don't have the space for a 6x4 table at home, you can't play a game on a 6x4 table at home.
A wargaming community has to have gaming materials at its disposal, and the more flexible access to that material is, the broader the possibilities for participation in that community become. A FLGS has an incentive, and often the resources, to make access to gaming materials very flexible. Thus, the FLGS is positioned to be a strong anchor for a wargaming community with the additional incentive of offering a reason for members of that community to come to be present even when not actually gaming; e.g. buying products.
For a club to be as vibrant, there needs to be someone or someones willing to invest the time/money into making access to gaming materials as or more broad/flexible.
I play at the FLGS less nowadays, but I also play less, period. Gaming at home is partly a way for me to increase flexibility even farther than the FLGS offers, which provides more opportunities to play.

I'm in my mid-20's. my circle if friends usually games at one of our places. I personally just like to play with close friends; it seems too dicey to try gaming with a stranger. If I'm going to spend 2-6 hours across a table from someone, I'd prefer it be someone I can get along with. Not to mention the closest store is about an hour and a half away.

20... Just 20. I play at a club. GW's rather stifling and my flgs doesn't have much space and a rather limited selection of games (again, a problem with GW). At a club there's far more space, members, and a much more varied amount of games to play. I can turn up to my club on any night and find something I've never seen before, whereas at a store people tend to play the same things (as well if the store isn't selling a game then there isn't much profit for them to be running games of it). =P

Our usual weekend game crew generally has 4-6 participants, who range from 25 to 36 years old. With their home promptly invaded in the early afternoon, we have access to all their amenities, get beta tested on for snacks, chocolates and cakes for a business in the making, order in as desired, and never have to worry about sharing space or paying particular attention to our stuff.
Most of them are old school warhammer players, so they've got a pile of terrain, and a board game collection that's bordering on the insane, so there's generally no need to venture off into 'the wild', so to speak.
Prior to hanging with them, my teens and 20's were spent in a similar fashion; someone had a place with room to spare (sometimes that person was me), we'd get lunch/dinner and play RPGs until the wee hours of the morning. So basically, it's just a natural extension of how I've always played, just with new people and new games.

20s/30s are easily the most popular age groups in the poll, but is that really accurate? Great thread, but I'm willing to bet that many older gamers are less active on forums and so this gets a bit skewed. But for the OP, I'm < 20 at a FLGS.

I'm 19, 20 in a few weeks. I play mainly at a FLGS, but because of collegely things it isn't as often as I'd like. Back home on break, I still play mostly at a FLGS nowadays. In high school I mostly played at a friends house, but that friend doesn't play much anymore and he was the one with the table, and the only one with the space for it (it was an old terrain board a local store was selling, two 4x4 sections).
Fun fact, I have never been in, let alone seen, a GW store.

Not enough options in the poll.
30's, split play between home and the local FLGS. No local GW near me.
High pressure job + family = sometimes its just easier to have the lads over for beer and a game at the house.

Might have been useful to differentiate between GW and FLGS - I often visit the latter, but haven't played in the former since about 4th edition 40k or so..
xxvaderxx wrote:It is interesting to note, that only 5% of the player, respond to GWs target demographic, talk about dissonance between a strategy and the reality...
I think it's possible that this is because generally the more serious fans post on forums. The more 'casual' players - as an example: was bought Dark Vengeance/The Hobbit for a birthday, bought a codex and a box of marines (and has 6 abortive attempts of colour scheme with those marines, making them resemble a 'PACE'-rally chapter ) probably wouldn't even know these places exist.
I buy the occasional computer game or CD, wouldn't bother to post on a forum about it however.
Sure there could be lots of other factors involved, but I certainly wouldn't for a moment think that only 9% of GW's customers are under 20!
