The girlfriend and I picked up X/Y on Saturday, and safe to say we're both extremely pleased with it! We're both really loving the new 3D system, and the effects for the 3D are cool, but most of the time I have it turned off. The new training simulator system is nice, and the mini-games to raise your pokemon's effection is pretty cool, too. So far the thing I like most is the variety of pokemon! After playing Black/White for so long, it's nice seeing both new and old pokemon so early in the game. There's also plenty of types available early on, so the starter that you choose doesn't really effect the diffculty early in the game. And the fact that you gain experience for weakening a pokemon before you capture them is suuuuch an awesome improvement; I've been preaching that for years! Also, the new Experience Share gives experience to ALL the pokemon in your party, and and doesn't take anything away from the one that did the fighting.
Really, the only problem I have with the game is that it seems you have to do the training simulators to make your pokemon a threat, especially against the gym leaders...but I'm still barely into the game. I think I've clocked only 5 hours.
If you're looking for a good read on it, I recommend this one
So, have any other Dakkaroos picked it up? What's your opinions of it?

I'm looking forward to it. It's taking a lot of willpower for me to not just buy it now, but I'm going to wait until Christmas.
What starters did you guys go for? I'm thinking Froakie, pick up a Bulbasaur as the game progresses, and then grab the event Torchic maybe. And I'm very torn between X and Y, currently erring towards Y for the awesomeness that is Yveltal.

I also went with Froakie, the girlfriend went with Fennekin. Chespin was a really close second choice for me, since I love fighting types. I still can't decide on which First Gen starter to pick, though... I'd recommend getting Torchic - it's free, you can receive it as soon as you start the game, and it's really helpful against the first gym leader. Did I mention that it's free? And I bought Y, the lady picked up X. I'm pretty sure that's how it is across the board

Playing Pokemon X. Lots of nostalgia already. It's odd. All of the little details (the mirror reflection, diagnal movement, sitting on chairs) and the sorts really adds up. I really can't criticize much. Hek the new exp share makes me finally feel like having more than 6 pokemon on my team!
The only real criticisms I have are that pokemon amie might make the story mode a bit too easy (it doesn't work in competitive or the battle tower but in story it can do some crazy broken stuff. It's awesome when they do it as it makes you feel like the pokemon is more real than just pixels braving a hit and surviving just because of you), the story feeling a bit lack luster in comparison to B/W, and certain sound effects feel a tad out dated.
On a side note, the super training isn't really needed. That's actually the ev mechanic that has been hidden in every game. Usually you have to defeat pokemon to get the stat buffs. Now though, with the ease of experience and the lessened need for grinding, you don't receive as many evs unless you go out of your way. Also, once you experience the might of ev training you feel the loss of power when not ev training Automatically Appended Next Post: Yo man! I picked X! What? I wanted Mega Charizard X
Well technically I got both but my first playthrough is with X.
Anyways, I actually have one last criticism. Mega evos can make the main game a bit too easy a well. I'd wager you can possibly get mega evos as early as level 1 for certain pokemon (and level 36 for the kanto starters which will likely be an individual's first mega evo). From hence forth you can very capably steam roll through your foes. Still though, I feel this gen is a massive football field leap forward and only a couple steps back.
Torchic is a good pick! It's up till January with a limited edition mega evo stone!

Ah, that makes sense about the Super Training then. I've been doing a lot of that and just general grinding. That's probably why the newly caught ones weren't doing as well as my trained ones at the same level.

I intend not to use Mega Evolution often. It's not a feature I like.

Good to hear the praise. I was on the fence for a bit there. But I want to go for it now. A lot of people have said that there is a solid mix of new middle and old pokemon and thats a big seller for me

Great news. I looked up something that was saying its a "complete" pokedex. From what I saw they got a good mix of all the Gen's in there.

I'm planning on limiting it to dramatic battles and competitive. Conceptually it is fine but I had hoped they would have been more generous in their application (giving it to pokemon that actually need it). Then again, that might have been partially because they wanted to make people accept the change by opting for the more popular pokemon.
It's also rather nice having a team from multiple different regions.

Good god this, dem feels.
The best pokemon game yet, it looks amazing, the low number of new pokemon is made up by just every pokemon being re-done in 3D, its the little details when fighting now which makes it stand out for me, the individual animations for each pokemon and you actually see them faint, just feels better. Cant wait to get into the online trading and battles but not doing that stuff until I beat the four.

Nope. Only a single region. That being said, I think this might be the biggest region yet.

It amazes me when I go onto amazon to maybe order it and I see company's at the bottom trying to scalp people for 70 bucks for it.

Started with Fennekin, only evolved once so far and hate stickbutt.
Nice I was able to get a squirtle again, continues that trend. Fletchling line has very quickly became one of my favourite flying type lines as well. Definitely has its spot on my team from the start to after the end.

I've been debating on whether I should pick up a DS for a while now and X/Y make it even more appealing.
Is it worth me getting back into pokemon or have a missed too much? I've only played blue, yellow, silver, ruby - I'd be a total noob

I got Y and I've been playing it straight for almost 3 days now. I love it.
It has all the customization I've always wanted, a fantastic selection of pokemon (I caught a Trapinch and a Gible within about 30 seconds of each other), and Exp Share is WAY awesome. The main pokemon gets full exp and it distributes half the exp to each of the other pokemon. That's 250% of the exp. Admittedly, this makes it a little easier, but you can turn it off if you like. I have a couple super-minor complaints, but they are just personal nitpicks.
1. Why is pikachu the only one who says it's name like in the anime? Pichu and Raichu stil make buzzy growl noises.
2. I don't like the little posse of kids who accompany you on your quest. I WORK ALONE. Especially Shauna, keep your 11-year-old-girl crush feelings away from me.
