I kinda like the "group" idea. I still want a co-op option, though.

The reason why I haven't been on Dakka in 3 days. Massive pokebinge. These games are my heroin.

Beat the E4, now I'm working on putting together a competitive team (thinking of doing UU and OU). Not entirely sure what I'm going to do yet, but there looks to be a lot of interesting new options. Shame that they didn't nerf Stealth Rock, the thing is ridiculously overpowered.

How is the "aftergame" with no new region? Did they still put things in to run around and do?

Worth paying attention to this, I think - a few people are reporting it as a game-breaker.

Yeah was hoping they'd nerf stealth rock so fire types wouldn't feel like an absolutely stupid typing to play. I'm also curious on how the aftergame is. I have a hunch it won't be anything exceptional (pretty much like every other game. Even Johto as its region is rather small and Kanto is somewhat shrunk), probably some sort of battle frontier single building structure before a sequel comes out and vastly improves it.

Not reading the thread because of spoilers, so sorry if this has already been asked, but I just want to know this one simple thing:

Is it worth buying a 3DS for alone? Considering I have at least one game from each generation already.

I've also been contemplating this, and I've come to the decision to trade in my DSi XL for a 2DS. I'm not so big on the whole '3D' thing, and I'm prone to getting really terrible migraines that result in me vomiting, so that's a plus . And it's cheaper!

Personally, I'd state it is worth it. There's a couple of other splendid games for the 3ds and, as long as you don't mind remakes, they might be making them, a sequel/final version of the X and Y games (pokemon Z), and there will probably be another generation on the hand held.

The 3d isn't really that important and I don't feel you lose much of anything without it. It has its moments but I usually only turn on 3d for the dramatic moments. Oh, and the 3d doesn't even turn on in the overview unless a special cynimatic or pokemon battle is occurring. Besides that it's just the 2.5 d which they did pretty well on. A 2ds would work quite well I believe and if you ever need to update it'll be cheaper in a few years anyways

I've heard it's worth it, and if I'm going all in for a couple of games, then I might as well pay the extra £20. Don't like the 2DS at all TBH. Cheers for the info guys!

Well, the primary portion of the aftergame is waiting for Pokemon Z.

Other than that, there's a few things. Battle Mansion is pretty much what you've come to expect from previous gens, and there's also the friend safari, where each friend you have registered gives you access to a plot where 2-3 different pokemon can spawn (these can be ones you can't obtain normally, including starters from multiple generations), and they tend to come with really good IVs and the potential for hidden abilities.

You can also obtain one of the legendary bird trio, with the bird you get depending on the starter you picked (I know that Chespin gets you Articuno, not sure which ones the other two unlock). They're roaming. And you can also grab Mewtwo and Zygarde.

My biggest disappointment (other than the lack of a much needed Stealth Rock nerf and the fact that IVs are still a part of the game) is that there's pathetically few move tutors in the game, and it's blatantly obvious that they're just saving them for pokemon Z. Really limits the competitive builds available, which is a shame, since a lot of my fun comes from thinking up interesting teams.

Thanks Fafnir, I've never been to big on the aftergame and was hoping this one would have something to pull me in a bit more. Oh well, with everything else it still sounds very very worth it! Order placed... now to wait... impatiently...

To be honest it is always sad when people rage that there isn't that big of a late game when most people seem to enjoy blowing through the story mode ignoring the side paths for item collection and the sorts . Then again I enjoyed creating teams and playing the minigames (and I became addicted to farming berries for some time).

Going to start breeding (hopefully adamant) Growlithes with perfect speed/attack IVs and Close Combat soon. If anyone wants any of the inevitable trash that I'll end up having to delete otherwise (Not a fan of 'imperfects' at the pokemon puppy mill), let me know.
They'll be guaranteed to have either perfect attack or speed, with a chance of perfect IVs in both, not to mention the chance for some solid defenses. I just need a combination of all of the listed factors, and anything that doesn't quite make that is trash, which is either drowned in the river, or free for anyone that wants it.
If you're not competitive, they'll be pretty badass, especially with Close Combat.

So I'm debating whether I should get X or just black 2, I'll take it through my personal pros and cons:

Black 2
Pros:
FREE SHINY GIBLE OMG
I hate mega evolution
Seems a lot closer to gen 4 which was my favorite
don't need to get a 2ds
Cons:
Starters look like absolute crap compared to x/y
No free torchic and kanto starter

X
Pros:
Starters all look awesome except fennekin's final evolution
seems to bring a lot back from previous generations
more modern so bigger community
free gen 1 starter and torchic
Cons:
mega evolution is slowed
Region is based on France? wat
Need to get black 2 as well so I can transfer pokemon
No free gible
need to get a 2ds
seems a lot more modern than previous games.

Get X. Black 2 is alright, but only if you didn't have black or white first. As for the 2DS, I'd say hunt around to see if you can pick up a preowned 3DS instead, probably go for about the same price but it'd be better off that way. Unless you actually prefer the 2DS of course.

I'd say go for Pokemon X. It's all around more polished and the community will be bigger. Whilst mega evolutions are a drawback (I personally like the concept but feel some are a bit too broken and should have been given to Pokemon more needy), they aren't that big unless in competitive play and whilst they have a major story emphasis... it still isn't that important. Region wise, it's actually absolutely lovely and is truly a delightful sight. You can always get black 2 or b or w later on for cheap. Gible's actually captured within the story mode of the new pokemon game, the modern nature of the game actually really helps out.

Finally, I'd say go for a 3ds if you can. You can always turn off the 3d and it is more easily portable.

Short of Mewtwo, who's already uber anyway, the only Mega Evolutions who present the possibility of being 'broken' are Mega Lucario and Gengar (who will probably be tested and have their mega forms moved to ubers anyway).

Some Pokemon really didn't need them, like the above mentioned, but aside from those, most of the unneeded mega evolutions aren't even particularly good. In some cases, the mega evolutions are actually worse than the original forms. Mega Heracross looks pretty awful, for example, and even the titan of OU, Tyranitar's mega form, happens to be disappointing and lacking in utility and overall point compared to his other forms.

Besides, some pokemon really benefited from it in ways that were needed. Charizard has been absolute gutter trash for quite a while now, and his new mega evolutions look to at least make him playable. Mega Venasaur gives venasaur something to do now that weather has been nerfed to the ground. Blastoise now has a chance for life outside UU.

I'm with everyone else, I think you should get X. The game itself is MUCH better than Black/Black 2. I risked it, and got the 3DSXL for for the release, and it was totally worth my money. The gameplay is great, it looks awesome, and online/social features are the icing on the cake. So far, the only thing I wish was better would be the story. After playing White, I was hoping that they would keeping making compaign stories that good.

And going back to X/Y, I've put 16 hours into the game, and haven't even gotten the second badge! There's so much to do, and the map is so huge! I'm loving it so much!

Oh, and my Friend Code is 3325-2576-0039 if anyone wants to add me

Here's my FC:
0860-4081-6465

Keep in mind that you not only need to add the other person, but they also must add you.

Aside from the benefits of having someone on your friend list to trade/battle with, there's the added bonus of gaining an extra "friend safari zone" for each friend on your list.
Each person's safari zone is a different specific type, and can spawn 2-3 different pokemon. When you go to the safari zone, you can pick to enter one safari at a time, and you can freely catch level 30 pokemon that you might not normally be able to catch.
For example, I have a dragon-type safari, so if someone is registered with me, they can go on my safari and capture several dragon-type pokemon.
Pokemon caught through safaris are unique for two main reasons:
First, they have the possibility of coming with hidden abilities, which can be particularly useful. For example, an Ivysaur caught through the safari can come with chlorophyll, a hidden ability that you can't get normally.
Second, every pokemon caught on a safari comes with at least 2 perfect IVs. This makes catching pokemon with solid stats much more reliable.

So even if you don't intend to play online that much, getting FCs for the safari isn't a bad idea.

Right out of the beginning it seems... easier. I don't recall someone following me around in Viridian Forest, constantly healing my pokemon. And people didn't know what roller skates or even running was, haha!
