If we're lucky, it will have lots of cheap, perhaps slightly less durable MC's and will have very powerful shooting and psychic options.
If we're unlucky, the the monstrous creatures will be expensive, and the codex will specialize in close-range/assaulting, which will make it ass like the CSM codex because 6th edition hates you for assaulting.

I expect it to be like SM codex. Strong, updated, still not at TauDar levels. Though, with SitW, hopefully the 2++ effects will be blunted.

I'm predicting a 'meh' level increase with some cool new models and some nifty rules, but I don't see them being amazing. Not when 90% of the army is based around assault.
I play against a buddy of mine who LOVES his nids to pieces, but ends up only using 1/3 of his models simply because the other 2/3 are a waste. Hopefully they give the other, less-used, mini's some love.

It will satisfy no one, and be one of the following:
1. Absolute garbage. Fixes none of the problems Nids have in 6th, and ruins what good they have.
2. Totally overpowered. Crushes everyone.
3. Meh. Just meh. Like the CSM book. It's not crap, it's not great; it's just utterly uninspiring.
Nids is one of those factions GW never get right. I hope I'm wrong, of course, but I doubt it.

I believe that the codex is aimed at balancing out/ shutting down player who rely too heavily on psychic powers.
Don't get me wrong, psykers are and should be a big part of the game.
But they are a bit too powerful right now and all rumors point to major Shadow of the Warp changes and army wide LD reduction abilities...which is just furthering what already exists in the book.
The rumors that there will be a tyrannic hunter supplement for marines also makes me think GW is covering their @ss by putting in a hard counter and forseeing a possibility of it being a bit too strong.

I really hope that they become a mid-top tier army.
I don't want them to be God-tier with Tau and Eldar because then the same thing will happen that did with those...people scramble to pick up Nids and then all the 40k scene will be flooded with Nids.
I like that when I play Nids I'm one of the few that still do. I've stuck with them since late 3rd edition and I intend to still.
I would really dislike going to tournaments where 50% of the showing is Tyranids (as like now has some combination of Eldar or Tau)

To be fair though...rumors are all over the place on synapse.
Some say it will vary in range based on the creature...some say FnP...Some also say Eternal Warrior...everyone still says fearless.
All we really know is that Synapse and the Shadow are going to see some major changes.

I hope they make the assault nids a bit more useful, or at least priced right. Daemons are a psuedo swarm army that are pretty effective, so I don't see why Nids can't do the same. I have a feeling that SitW will be nerfed to oblivion, just like the Eldar's similar ability. It will likely just result in a +1 to DtW rolls with a shorter range, or another form of the psychic hood.
I would actually like to see Nids become less shooty than their current incarnation. We have enough shooty armies, I'd prefer to see more assault based armies.

Current rumors speculate that they won't be able to...but they will pseudo be able to.
"Surprise" has been listed as a possible rule where all shots count as snap shots against lictors and ymgarls that come in from reserves the turn they come in.
Lictors have also been rumored to pull an IC into combat and out of a unit...thus...not assaulting...but in assault the turn they come in.

I have the sneaking feeling that Tyranids, again, are going to be stuck with an uninspiring, bland, boring codex. The 5th codex is so criminal in it's normalcy for such an amazing army. Basically the current codex is nothing but stat lines. No awesome abilities, not board changing psychic powers, not FOC manipulation or even well defined roles. Everything is just a stat line attached to a unit type.
What I want to see is the Carnifex defined as a heavy hitting tank, that can take a beating and dish it out. I want the Trygon to be a quicker more finesse based MC that isn't as durable as the Carnifex, doesn't hit AS hard, but hits more. I want to see the Sward Lord have more than 2 base attacks, if you keep with their excuse that 2 sets of melee weapons are built INTO the stat line.
I want to see Lictors be the assassins they are supposed to be, I want to see Genestealers be frightening again, I want the Pyrovore actually do something lol.
I feel like I am not going to see any of these things.

From the looks of it...Tau are going to need to change their meta more than any other army to combat the new bugs.

Frankly, I don't want Invulnerable saves on most MCs. I want it on Zoans, the Doom, and a purchasable upgrade for Tyrants, thats it. I also don't expect to get Invulns on anything else (probably not even Tyrants, maybe Special characters). I also see Nids taking a more exotic rules direction, the "snapshot at Lictors/Ymgarls" sounds perfect for this, and I would thoroughly enjoy it if its true. A hordey feel with fast units (Hormagaunts should move faster than Daemonettes, sorry).
Really, Nids overwhelm their opponents in one of several ways:
1. It's too big to stop!
2. There are too many coming to stop!
3. They're coming too fast to stop!
4. They're popping up in too many places to stop!
A fluffy Nid army should be a healthy balance of popping up units and fast units, with a few hard hitters mixed in.

I wouldn't get my hopes up on the 'Nids getting any sort of mechanic that confounds gunlines as much a flatout "all ranged attacks against this unit are snapshots". Frankly, I doubt we'll get things like assaulting after running or any sort of 1st turn assault options at all. I wouldn't even be surprised if they nerfed the Ymgarl's assault after infiltrating ability just like they did with Heroic Intervention and replaced it with something mundane like the unit having the shrouded rule the first turn they're infiltrated. I could *maybe* see Lictors getting something marginally useful like enemy squads either being unable to overwatch a charging lictor or needing to re-roll successful snapshots against a charging lictor. That's really about it, though.

Did we have the same codex? The current codex had all of the above. Tervigons had awesome psychic powers and spawning abilities. They were FOC manipulated into troops instead of HQ. While not a psychic power, SitW, when properly FAQed, was a huge board changing ability. Hive Commander was awesome for a reserve list. Not to mention everything did one thing, and did that one thing really well. The problem is, it was boring. Because everything only did one thing really well, there were several no-brainer picks.
