I agree, not to mention the DoM has one of the most awesome abilities in the game. Board changing psychic powers is what nids have. I get the feeling the new codex will ruin or make these powers/abilities less effective and potentially destroy my favourite army to play. Personally I love my list and have not been board with it since the codex released many years ago. To each their own, but I am not looking forward to the codex but to the new models.

I will reserve judgment, but for the most part I'm cautiously optimistic, and I'm fairly certain it will have better internal balance than the current codex. I just hope we get someone who can actually write a good xenos codex this time, I'd love to see a Phil Kelly Nid codex for 6th.

I have a peanut allergy. It's really inconsiderate.

Are there no rumors for an author?
Personally I want Kelly for the Rules and Ward for fluff.
Ward gets a bad wrap for rules...and I get that...But I personally love his fluff.

Early rumours have pointed to both Ward and Kelly, I'm pretty much ignoring the rumours if they can't even get their story straight and were floating about months ago. I'm also really hoping we don't get stuck with Ward, I don't want to be the new Necrons with mindless take-these-and-win lists and fluff retcons everywhere.

Ward fluff is good, but honestly if he is writing the fluff for the Tyranids book he has to go back and tell the Blood Angels and Necron bro fist story but this time from the Tyranid perspective.

I would like to see some kind of "Swarm" special rule that allowed mixing units together. Warriors are neat models but to expensive to take in a unit large enough to survive and too easy to kill if played as a unit of 3 or 4. If you could place the warriors in a unit of gaunts then it would be worth taking. Or placing winged warriors in a unit of gargoyles.
Layered synapse would be nice too. Swarm Lord provides synapse to all units on the board, Hive Tyrant has 18" synapse bubble, Warriors provide synapse to any unit they've joined, ect.

Last rumor on Warriors said there was a possiblity of them being warlock-ed...taken as a unit or being able to be attached to certain units.

I expect DoM to jump in points and lose some of the "power" from the leech power.
I expect Tervigons not to change much, except be locked at ML1.
I expect Carnifexes to lose flexibility and drop in points.
I expect Trygons to stay about the same.
Just my thoughts.

I just hope they do something with lictors and genestealers, they have been getting progressively worse with each book since 3rd.
And get rid of instinctive behaviour, just make synapse fearless within 12".
I've always felt that nids should be THE horde army, getting outnumbered by guard and orks is just sad. I'd like to see it get 50 man units and just be able to kill the enemy based on numbers alone.

Rick Priestley said it best:
Bryan always said that if the studio ever had to mix with the manufacturing and sales part of the business it would destroy the studio. And I have to say – he wasn’t wrong there! The modern studio isn’t a studio in the same way; it isn’t a collection of artists and creatives sharing ideas and driving each other on. It’s become the promotions department of a toy company – things move on!

I can definitely see this happening...possibly even increasing him to ML2 and making the leech a nova...or maelstrom.

Absolutely.
rigeld2 wrote:I expect Carnifexes to lose flexibility and drop in points.
All rumors point to the exact opposite. Well...all rumors point towards the usage of the current sprue being maximized. Maybe they lose flexibility in purpose but I don't think in their availability of options.
Also agree completely.
I more expect synapse and shadow to be heavily modified from their current version. Also wondering if IB will be changed or thrown out.

I don't want them to be God-tier with Tau and Eldar because then the same thing will happen that did with those...people scramble to pick up Nids and then all the 40k scene will be flooded with Nids.
I like that when I play Nids I'm one of the few that still do. I've stuck with them since late 3rd edition and I intend to still.
I would really dislike going to tournaments where 50% of the showing is Tyranids (as like now has some combination of Eldar or Tau)
There is no "God Tier". There is Top-Tier, and then there is everything else. If you want Nids to be "Top Tier", then you're going to be on par with Tau, Eldar and Necrons.
You want something less "cheesy*" than that? Then you can stand with CSM, SOB, Vanilla Marines, Orks, Assault Armies....
*=(those 3 armies are not 100% cheese, but certain builds are)

The Doom averages out as not very high damage anyway, I'd be fine if they simply made it more consistent. No games where it wipes out entire squads, no games where it does absolutely nothing at all, just a consistent amount of damage high enough that it can still fulfil its role as a distraction/disruption unit.
I expect Tervigons not to change much, except be locked at ML1.
They're already stuck at ML 1.
I expect Carnifexes to lose flexibility and drop in points.
They've already lost heaps of flexibility from 4th to 5th, I'd expect them to become more flexible in 6th.
I expect Trygons to stay about the same.
I expect so too, though I'm hoping they'll make it faster and fix the useless tunnel.

ML 1 Psykers are "awesome?" No, they are a MC which are awesome in 6th with access to biomancy and up to three powers. In codex they are amazingly bland except for their spawning ability. One FOC change is hardly an inspiring argument about Tyranids as a whole, not that I am asking for C: SM level of FOC manipulation but I want to see Tyranids have some kind of focus in mind. Meaning that I would LOVE to see a flying hive tyrant make gargoyles troops, or having a subterranean assault army that allows for more raveners, trygons, and mawlocs.I would LOVE to see Tyranids become an ambush/null deployment army with tons of options to pod, outflank, DS, and ambush all over the codex. Hive Commander is a single ability on one unit that IS good, but it hardly effects a lot of units in the codex.
SiTW is awesome, but the 12" range and the lack of psykers until 6th really made it a rare occurrence to come into play. Even now a lot of armies don't have psykers and it has no effect on them at all, I would honestly love to see SiTW lower LD values rather than just affect psykers.
I would disagree that everything did one thing very well. Carnifexs didn't really do anything well, they weren't tanks, they didn't kill anything that most everything else in the codex couldn't. Pyrovores are epicly bad. Genestealers do not really do their job that well, mostly a 6th change. Infact, I would argue that MOST units in the book did NOT do anything well. What do Warriors do well? Raveners? Parasite of Mortrex? Rippers? Harpies? The list goes on. The problem was, as you said, in the end it was all about the no brainer picks because they were excellent at what they did. The other 2/3rds of the codex suffered from ill defined roles, poor rules, and massive over costing.

Hence the reason "power" was in quotes.

With 3 powers. ML1 implies 1 power.
