Hello dakka, today I am wondering that what does the community think about using the small super heavys like macharius and malcador. I know that the general opinion of the community seems to be against the use of the super heavys but I think that the small super heavys will ignore these problems like D weapons. So the question in short: Would you play against these small super heavys?

Sure would! Of course, I'll play against anything that's legal, so that isn't really a deviation from my normal operating procedure.

I welcome the chance to learn new strategies and tactics, and adapt my game to incorporate the new rules/models.

I'd be happy to play against any non Str: D weaponry.

Against Str: D weaponry, I'll consider it, but I'm likely to not be particularly pleased about it.

I'd certainly be willing to give it a go if someone brought one along to the club, especially if they were keen to use it for fluff/fun rather than just to spam OP weapons. It would be a welcome change from the normal games, and it would be an interesting tactical exercise.

I've read a lot about the "small super-heavies" since I love FW, and yes, I'd play against a Macharius or Malcador (or any other equivalent). I'd be iffy about D-weapons, but since only the biggest fishes have those, I'd have no problem at all with the rest.

Yes, though I'd probably offer my opponent some extra points to make up for the fact that they've brought such a terrible unit.

There is no such thing as a hobby without politics. "Leave politics at the door" is itself a political statement, an endorsement of the status quo and an attempt to silence dissenting voices.

The Macharius isn't that bad (still not as good as multiple Leman Russes, although the plasma version sounds fun), but the Malcador? Oh yeah, that thing is a waste. Malcadors inspire pity, not fear.

I have the Malcador Defender being made as we speak. A slow lumbering and archaic looking tank was the perfect super heavy for my army. Oh its also a moving pillbox so i couldn't resist. I dont know anybody that would refuse to play against it haha. But if someone else where to do it id happily welcome it as some of those smaller super heavies look very cool.

As long as they don't have strD weapons, I think they're a very flavourable addition to an army.

I mean, as an IG player, a wraithknight is far more intimidating than most SH tanks out there

No Strength D, no problem. I've never taken kindly to the idea of having the D forced on me.

A courtesy heads up would be appreciated, but I sure as hell wouldn't turn away a game if an opponent with a baneblade plopped it down on a whim.

I would be fine except in the case of a Lynx or Kil Bursta, iwhich case I would like to know before hand since both of those pump out significant strength D. I love the Malcador and its variants so it'd be a joy to play against one for me.

I am ok with accepting even D weapons, just as long I get to see their list before hand, and adjust my list to tailor for it.

I voted "If I know before hand" so I can make sure there are no Str D weapons. I won't play that but I'd definitely play against super heavies.

I'm totally for the various small and mid-size FW superheavies sans D weapon.

D is a bit ridiculous, and I'd only really play with it to prove to the other guy that it is ridiculous in normal games (which has been done in our group), but Macharius, Malcador, Brass Scorpions, bring it on, I'd love to see more of those fantastic looking models.

I'm thinking of a Macharius myself come tax-return season, would be nice to have a big, fun, ludicrously mediocre unit.

Therefore, I conclude, Valve should announce Half Life 2: Episode 3.

In a heartbeat. Most super-heavies suck, and the smaller ones even moreso. Most Codex units will beat a Macharius or a Maldador point for point (Land Raider v Macharius - which one is objectively better?), and you're always better off taking more of a regular thing than you are a single tiny super-heavy.

So yeah. All the time.

Not only happy to, but would love to. So long as it's something without D weapons.

Indeed, The only thing better than a game with a CRASSUS ARMOURED ASSAULT TRANSPORT is a game with TWO CRASSUS ARMOURED ASSAULT TRANSPORTS.

CRASSUS ARMOURED ASSAULT TRANSPORT is the ultimate super-heavy.

Why not a Praetor CRASSUS ARMOURED ASSAULT TRANSPORT launcher.

On a more topic I would also like to hear your opinions on which one of the small superheavys would you recommend. I have been thinking of buying the macharius vulcan or vanquisher. Note that I am not looking it from mainly the competitive side but also the aesthetics.

We can't advise you on the aesthetics, only you can decide which one looks the best to you.

As far as combat efficiency is concerned, well, I read about Malcador and Macharius some time ago. From what I remember, the "vanilla" variants of both are mediocre, and out of all Malcador and Macharius types, Malcador Defender armed with Lascannon sponsons is the one with the best combat efficiency. It also looks funny.

Had a little test game for my C'tan- I challenged a CSM player to make a 1,000pts list with no FOC restrictions vs my lone C'tan to see if it lives up to the hype.

Tabled the poor lad within 2 turns...

If you think 315 points for an AV13/12/11 BS3 tank is "best combat efficiency", then sure.

That actually isn't my opinion, I read such on some forums at a time when I was considering buying one of those tanks. Also, I'm not sure whether you noticed that I wrote "out of" when speaking about the efficiency.
