After the last successful Kickstarter the guys at Action Game Miniatures have started their second Kickstarter for a new faction.

If you missed the first go round you can get the miniatures from the first batch too.

Up for less than 24 hours and already funded.

Dammit! I was all set to post up a new topic about this, but you beat me to the punch.

Guess you can update this one then!

Curious to see how far it goes. I saw mention in the comments that if they hit high enough funding there would be talk of hard plastics. No mention of what would end up getting tooled in it (I would assume infantry).

I'm always a sucker for reptiles, so I'll probably get a token set of figures or two.

Poorly lit photos of my ever- growing collection of completely unrelated models!

The funny thing is I don't think I'm going to kick in on this one.

I'm still waiting on my wave 1 figures from the last one. I kinda want to see them in my hands before I pitch money in for more stuff to gather dust.

And Dang it! I have to update. I forgot that when I started this one. lol

I have real mixed feelings about this KS

Negative side
A) The first KS should have delivered in July 2013, it is Feb 2014 and they have only produced half the range.
B) There are still a lot of backers who have not received a single item.
C) There are some quality control issues on some of the miniatures.

Positive side
A) The people running it are some of the nicest around.
B) A lot of the miniatures are very good quality/Sculpts.
C) It is value for money on the army box level deals (especially by the time the K'S will be finished).
D) I have been told the game play/ rules are good.

Biggest gripe....The dragons are molded onto bloody awful bases.....would I go in for this KS, well yes, but I wish the first KS was not running so far behind.

Denilsta I mostly agree.

They are great with their updates and progress reports. They kept backers in the know every step of the way.

And I can see why they got behind with all the extra stuff that needed to get produced with them exploding past all their stretch goals from their last one. So I'm not too mad about that. Admittadly I would have liked my stuff ages ago too.

I definitely want them to succeed so that the game can take off. It has a lot of potential.

They linked the rules (or a quickstart version of it) in their previous kickstarter last week if you wanted to take a look at it.

Yeah, they've still got $100+ of my money and they've delivered nothing and they want more now? Makes me a little scared that without this second round of funds they wont be able to fulfill the first round of promises. Plus, there's no EB pledge level that really takes into account KS1 backers that will already have core sets. Least they could have done is give unfulfilled KS1 backers some form of bonus on the new KS. Oh well, guess this one just isn't "for me".

I guess at the very least KS1 backers get the extra bag of bases.

Better than nothing I guess. It's not like I'll get any if I back this one.

That's a great summary... and makes this pretty much a no-go for me. They do seem nice, though, and I hope they do well enough to continue... but the timing does seem a little premature.

Just to play devil's advocate for a moment- wasn't Mierce starting up their 2nd KS campaign before everything was sculpted/ shipped?

Didn't Prodos start up Aliens vs Predator before everyone's Doom Troopers arrived?

Didn't Mantic start... well... [insert game here] before [insert another game here]?

Didn't CMON... nah. Not going there.

This wouldn't be the first campaign that gets run during ongoing fulfillment issues.

Just to play Devil's Pre-trial advice counsel for a moment...

Yes you're right ...no one should jump to the conclusion that "This company is inherently bad or greedy" because they started their 2nd KS early. BUT - for a lot of reasons it's still a pretty bad idea.

I didn't back Anti-matter games 2nd KS because I hadn't gotten anything from the 1st one yet. When I did I really loved the minis and wished I had been able to support the 2nd one.

I didn't back dreadball (or maybe it was Deadzone) because I was still waiting on 2nd wave KoW stuff. I wish I had put more money into those and less on KoW. Also - even just the timing meant I had no reserve funds to back it - still paying off credit card from the first one.

So - yeah - I think they can shoot themselves in the foot a bit by rushing to start the next KS - you want your original fanbase to get their stuff and not only hype the game, but be ready for more.

Be all that as it may, it isn't ever a good idea to start a second KS when some people from your first KS haven't received a single thing yet.

Still, they're already at $35K, so...

I am drooling while looking at some of those sculpts. I hope they learnt some lessons after that first Kickstarter and the problems Denilsta mentioned so everything goes more smoothly this time!

I'm tempted as I followed the first kickstarter and hummed and hawed but eventually chose not to back as I didn't feel there was enough game information. Now that more rules have been shown I'm interested. and I like the multicultural miniatures. I'll watch this closely.

Well, they have broken $40,000 and unlocked the first 5 Stretch goals.

Just 3k away from the next level.

The way I see it AGM hasn't got cash flowing in from a currently released line. Till they go commercial they are reliant on investment and KS is one investment source. After a year of production a little boost to help them expand a little more and ready up for commercial launch is a valid move - with KS being an investment source that comes without strings (since the only requirement is the product production which is the intent of the investment in the first place).

I hear you Overread.

I just with all the backers got something before it launched.

"Wave 1 is out. Now we are launching a kickstarter for more awesome new stuff that you will like because you know how good we are with our figures!"

If I had seen a figure in person I might jumped on this in the first few hours it was up. But I should save my money a bit and maybe get some figures in time to get in on the end of the kickstarter.

Faceless - agreed I'd have liked to see Drake fully shipped at least Wave 1 to really help hype up this launch. I think for them though its a thing they couldn't put off - a KS is something like 2 months from start to them actually getting the money. One month or so running the KS itself, followed by two or more weeks for payments to process. However they have run it internal to Canada this time instead of through US KS and this might mean that funds are more quickly processed since they are not going through Amazon Payments.

Yeah, as a render it's incredibly sweet, but I wonder if it will look as good once actually made...

I was in the last kickstarter for a decent chunk of cash, and I have yet to receive any of the figures. I can't say I'm all that worried, but at the same time, I'm not all that psyched to start giving them any more of my money. Glad to see they've at least surpassed their goal, and lucky for them, Creature Caster postponed for a bit, creating less competition for their start.

If they decide to make that two headed mammoth which was shown in their first indiegogo campaign, I would definitely join in. But I'll just watch for now.

I said as much about their first KS renders. Since I haven't seen any of the models in decent close up photos, I'll wait this one out. Some of the models also have some sloppy leg anatomy going on.

The Bastile (I'm slow at assembling so he's got no arms)

I'd say the only real problem I have with their metals is that the scale results in swords being very very thin. Good detailing, but very thin and they could go thicker without losing too much scale.

If you zoom in very very close you can see the lines from the 3D scanner, however to the human eye on the metal models they are for the most part invisible (just too small a detail).

I'm loving these designs but the quality or implementation looks a tad hit and miss.

True although I'd say they've got sharper and clearer detailing than on early Spartan Games Uncharted seas miniatures (which had an overall soft appearance) - plus I'd say they get more hits than miss. AGM is a new company, but I think they've got of to a very a good start and I'd love to see them continue working on these fantastic designs that they come up with.

I'm also pleased that they are so different from the DnD era style models and that they aren't trying to do the ease thing of ripping off GW to get into the market.

The picture with the pitting doesn't inspire much confidence. The company seems friendly and enthusiastic and I like the different factions and inspirations. The rules are very clunky so far however. Early days though.

Yeah, that pitting has got me a bit apprehensive about receiving giant piles of metal from them. That guy is a one off though. Maybe the piles of rank and file fair a bit better?

How's the resin? I'm most interested in the big dragons, and I would assume most are resin (or possibly hybrid metal and resin).

The designs are definitely different!

Unfortunately, the Dragons are the weaker part of the range in my experience with the three I have received.

Rish dragon - resin/plastic body and wings, metal neck and head. The resin armour lacks detail in places and the metal spikes on its chin are a silly things to have separate.

Timor Dragon - all resin/plastic, some real quality control issues on this one with some horrendous mold lines.

Formosi Dragon - all metal apart from resin feet molded into those painfully awful bases they use on the dragons. Not the best miniature position wise.

With the dragons I think it is the smooth skin (lack of scales) which I personally think make them look just a little bit wrong.....and I wish I could remove the bases but I would definitely end up damaging the dragons to re base them.
