I've been discussing this extensively with a couple of people and it is truly becoming a severe curiosity. Can boarding torpedoes leave once their passengers have done their damage? It is hard for me to believe such a thing, but I don't know anymore. Your comments will be most appreciated. Thanks in advance!

Check out the bit when they attack the cylindrical colony ship (please don't ask me to spell the aliens) which has Garro and Co in boarding torpedoes making entry in a sort of treatment plant of some sort, and when it's all said and done they leave the same way too.

I doubt that the Imperium has only the one standard model of boarding torpedo. Different versions probably have different capabilities.

That said, it seems extremely likely that most boarding torpedos would have some ability to escape after being used. You wouldn't want to abandon a unit of marines on an exploding ship after they had set it to blow, right? And pretty much anything which can 'dock' with a spacecraft should be able to 'undock' using it's maneuvering engines.

On the other hand, it does seem quite likely that any given boarding torpedo could get damaged or stuck in the target's hull. Crashing through a wall of metal (or whatever) has got to have some risk to the torpedo, possibly so bad that it would be considered normal to abandon any that had been fired into a heavily armoured vessel.

I would think this is the difference between a boarding "torpedo" and a boarding or assault ship. A torpedo sounds like a one shot weapon to dig as deep into a target as possible and the troops would have some other method of escape such as a shuttle or teleport homers.

Also if we are talking about space marines in PA, all they have to do is eject and wait for pick up. Their suits are fully life supportable for days.

They have cutting equipment on their prows and claws that drag them into the armour plating while the cutters do their work alongside a melta of some sort. when they leave they just throw it into reverse, and it claws and cuts its way out.

The caestus ram melts the hull and then penetrates it and marines disembark. The hull is still liquid and red hot where the ram breached it, things cool very slowly in space. So whenever they are done it's not hard to back out of the still molten hull plating

Welcome to Dakka Its your rating that's determined by how many posts you have done. You can change it from Imperial to chaos and the like.

In order to change your ranking system, you go to your profile and edit it. It is one of the options there.

I have a question on this as guard player. Do regular humans have boarding torpedoes they can use, or is it so bad that they would liquefy on impact?

Apparently, yes a glitch/bug is most likely. I refuse to be an Imperial citizen of any blasted type. I detest that lousy Imperium as a whole.

Humans do have their own torpedoes within the Imperial Navy. Their types of torpedo vary. Though not exactly a boarding torpedo, a Shark Assault Boat is a very valued craft. go onto Lexicanum and type "Boarding torpedoes". You should be able to find what you are looking for in whole.

FlIght of the Eisenstein they leave through storm birds.

Just had a skim and I can't find anywhere where it says how Garro leaves the xenos ship. Only says the last Imperials leave by shuttles and Thunderhawks, but by that time Garro was already back aboard ship and out his PA.

It says the torpedo has clawed tracks and hydraulic barbs to help it pull it's self inside and resist the pull of escaping atmo. Also it just says the hatch blows open by explosive bolts so scratch what I said about a melta.

Yeh when you open the hatch by blowing it off that kinda suggests it's a one use only thing.

I also object to the title 'Happy Imperial citizen'. It is a tautology. Any citizen who disagrees should report to the nearest commissariat.
