I just have a one army and today I was thinking, which would I prefer to have one 4500 point army or 3 1500 point armies of different races. Can't seem to make up my mind on how I want to collect. What do you prefer a single primary army to focus your time and funds on. Or several armies that will grow slower because your focus is split.

One army per system. I keep it medium sized. Enough so most of my army always gets used with a few changes here and there.

It helps defeat the addiction I once had for models.

Two very large ones, two small ones, and one extremely small one. (Limited to a single HQ and a single troop choice.)

Start with a couple of small armies and they just get bigger over time.

I did have 4 40k armies, each at over 5000pts (Eldar and marines were both over 10,000pts EACH) at one stage.

But I got rid of one army - I didn't like enough of the models in it to want to keep it (guard).

I'm OVER 50 (and so far over everyone's BS, too).

I collected a single army until I got to the point where I could basically field whatever I was going to want to field with relatively minimal proxying. My guard army has a few hundred infantry models (with duplicates of every heavy and special weapons), and a handful of chimeras, chimera chassis, and some russes with swappable weapons. I don't have literally everything, of course (no rough riders, for example), but I haven't yet come across a serious desire to play that particular unit, so I don't feel like I'm missing out on anything.

It's not to say I won't continue to buy guard stuff into the future, but for practical purposes, I'm rather done.

I didn't even bother seriously starting a second army until this point, though. I have a few other armies with fewer than 500 points assembled. For some reason I'm having a hard time really getting excited for actually playing anything not guard.

That and with my first army done, it's leaving me to try and do other things that I haven't gotten to, like terrain. Once I'd be able to play a game in my own house would I focus too hard on getting that second army in place.

I like having my main army, then the rest of my armies are little allied detatchments to that force. Eventually they can be fielded as the main army but for the time being they stay on the sidelines.

Few smaller armies with one or two focused enough to be competitive. I'm more of a collector than a player, so I love to own lots of minis from different armies that I can always play in Kill Team should I feel like it - having only one would be really boring given the fact that very few systems are widely popular here.

Other option is two armies per system, so I can always show those games to my friends and try persuading them to start playing it if I like the system.

Multiple mid-sized armies. I don't tend to play above 2000 points, especially with only a single faction, so there's little point for me expanding beyond 3000 (so I have some options). The exception is Guard, where there is so much to collect and so many options, but most of my armies cap at 2000-3000. I'll often go back and add units to old armies, or purpose them to new ones, but that's the ballpark it tends to stay in.

One army all the way. If it were football you would support your main favorite team so it would be applied in this respect. Your team army would be the one you would invest in to the end. And to what end? Well either till you would sell to start a new army of just till death

Joined the TT Hobby with just a single army to build......
...the first justification to expand was they are anyhow of the same faction cause IoM and I liked the theme.
The years went on and all I have managed to achieve was the armies filling the shelves didn't get past the 2.000-2.500 mark. ( usually .. )
Am not sure if I should count the boxes of Imperials as One big army or multiple medium sized ones.

But I know I am not going to use models as swappable FOTM or stick with just 1 army because I always liked to collect things.

Several very small, as I use 40K models for skirmish games. One or two boxes and I have more than enough for a full force.

Many mid-size armies, but then I've been playing for a long time.

I usually work on one army at a time, buying a collection of stuff over a period of time and then going through and painting the whole thing in a few batches. Most armies end up around 3000 points, but I never play more than 1850 - I iust prefer to have options.

Two Medium sized armies. And one smaller one....

Basically, I have my dark Angels, as my primary army, and two as a secondary. My Salamanders inherit the random things that I can't take with my DA.

I like to say I have two armies: Necrons, and Imperium.....

I have three main armies, DE, Necrons, and Demons. I also have smaller armies of 1500 to 2000 points each. I'll probably get rid of just about all my armies to concentrate on just a couple.

i used to just be one big army, Orks, but before i had the models built/converted to claim i have a massive list i got sick of orks in 6th and went with Tau (before the dex, actually didnt even know they were getting one at the time lol).

Orks still out number my Tau by almost 3fold in points including unassembled stuff, but my Tau get used more. Im hoping that changes with the new ork dex, as i prefer the ork models.

Dont have any intentions to start a third army yet. I want to get a space marine variant, probably vanilla since i have the dex already, but i have so much unassembled or painted i really dont wanna buy more atm lol. Think my tau are about half painted...3k points

An ork with an idea tends to end with a bang.

Space wolves, Grey Knights, Doom Eagles, Imperial guard (don't care. NOT AM), Sisters of Battle

Xeno
Eldar, Tau, Tyranid, Ork, Necron, Daemons.

I can field 8 of them to at least 2500 pts with reasonable upgrading. I can field 3 of them for 4000.

Lots of 2000k armies and a couple smaller ones 500-1500pts, and larger ones 3000-4000pts. Its the same for Fantasy and Flames of War aswell.

One large army and two small ones.

My space marines are around 6000pts, my orks are at 2500 and my eldar at 2000.

With these three armies I can play 3 different styles. Marines(a little bit of everything) eldar (elite) and orks (horde)

Other than the coolness factor of the imperial guards, I have no intention of starting a 4th one. I will continue to increase those I have.

I might end up with 3 large armies in the end. IF GW ever do a new race one day, I would be very interested to try it put though.
