Subject: Workers forced to say 'I love you' or be fired
A federal agency sued a New York customer service provider on Wednesday after allegations the company forced employees to pray, thank God for their jobs and say "I love you" to managers and colleagues at work, and fired those who protested.
The Long Island-based United Health Programs of America and its parent company, Cost Containment Group, required workers to practice a spiritual belief system called Onionhead while on the job, in violation of their civil and religious rights, the U.S. Equal Employment Opportunity Commission said in the complaint.
The company fired several employees who refused to adhere to the Onionhead doctrine, which was created by the aunt of the company's owner, the complaint said.
In one case, an IT project and account manager was disciplined after she complained to management in 2010 that she was Catholic and did not want to participate in the spiritual activities, according to the complaint.
A month after she complained, the employee was removed from her office and relocated to an open customer service area, while a large statue of a Buddha was placed in her former office. She protested to the owner that the move amounted to a demotion and was fired, the complaint said.
"While religious or spiritual practices may indeed provide comfort and community to many people, it is critical to be aware that federal law prohibits employers from coercing employees to take part in them," Sunu Chandy, senior trial attorney at the commission, said in a statement.
The commission is seeking back pay with interest and unspecified damages for the fired employees, and an injunction against the company from further religious requirements.
Representatives for United Health Programs of America and Cost Containment Group could not be immediately reached for comment.
Maybe your own boss isn't as bad as you think.
... presumably the rest of the employees are alright with the situation..?

This is why Americans have guns. To assert their rights against the feth wad dick heads that rule their working lives with a fist of iron and a "playbook" of ridiculous management theories.
Sounds like somebody did their management training in North Korea. When I first glanced the thread's title, I thought it was another North Korean thread!

The headteacher of a Black Country school has defended banning the local dialect from classrooms, saying it will help raise literacy standards.
John White said the school had decided to ban the dialect from lessons or otherwise put at risk the future prospects of its 600 pupils.
The measure, which came into force at Colley Lane Community Primary School in Halesowen at the start of the term, is accompanied by a guide explaining to parents the reasons for the ban.

Or, really just want/need those jobs.
You mean you don't have the right to just walk out of a job and get another one in your field paying equally well or better, and within easy travel distance at the drop of a hat?
Having the right to up and leave your job is one thing. But when unemployment in some areas is close to 20%, there are times when you just grin and bear it. Especially when you have mouths to feed.
The company's management team in the article are all dicks.

That's some serious retaliation. I hope she gets millions of $$$ for that one.

You mean that you can find a new job at the drop of a hat, no matter what your job, where you work or what your skills? You must have some impressive job hunting skills... Unfortunately the world just doesn't work like that for most of us, and if it did employee rights wouldn't be a thing.

On the positive, thats an extremely winnable lawsuit right there under current EEOC type legislation.

Yeah, you have the every right to go find another place where someone slaps you in the face with their phallus for 8 hours a day, you even have the right to find someone with a smaller, less repugnant phallus than the one that is currently face-slapping you.
But when there's not many phalluses to be slapped around the face with, most folks'll put up with the phallus that's face-slapping them right now, regardless of size or repugnance...
And that is why you hear people yelling FOR THE EMPEROR rather than FOR LOGICAL AND QUANTIFIABLE BASED DECISIONS FOR THE BETTERMENT OF THE MAJORITY!

In general isn't it illegal to force someone to participate in any sort of religious activity that they don't agree with? I'm more referring to daedalus' post, as well the OT's just all sorts of crazy. People have their personal rights, and freedom of belief is one of them, at least in the UK, but even if one didn't have them I'd still assume there'd be some sort of lawsuit that was justified. I did some training in a non-denominational school (read: ultra Christian) school a few years ago and I recall that they had a policy that everyone had to involve themselves in all the little prayer sessions as they were included in scheduled activities like school assemblies. That amounted to telling kids off for not wanting to pray for disrupting things, though nobody bothered to have a word with me when I chose to wander off and do some paperwork. On topic though, without going as far as taking a company like this, or at least one which enforces, even if only through peer pressure, religious beliefs that you don't agree with, what can the average person actually do? I mean just going by my own experiences writing places like this up for review does jack all to actually change anything.

Certainly people can "invite" you to pray at events like that. Whether you choose to pray or not is up to you. As a non religious person I'm generally happy to sit through prayer without feeling the need to say something. It really doesn't happen all that often though. I think the last time was a funeral and before that when I was still in Secondary school.
Most schools have assembly times that include prayer at least once or twice a year. You have to attend because your at school and that's how it goes down. Nobody forces you to pray.
Frankly considering how you run things I wouldn't be surprised if you forced your employees to say that to you.
