It will be here before we know it guys. What are your thoughts so far?

The price point is kind of high for me personally. I know of a bunch of people at my FLGS that are picking it up, so I'll get to try it before I buy.

A while back, Amazon accidentally (?) listed Armada starters at ~$56 so I ordered two LOL.

I have a fair bunch of x-wing but I rarely play and might be selling the majority off because of that.

That said I have already pre-ordered one of everything so I'll have a decent starting fleet for both sides. Though if I like it I'm likely adding:

1 more starter
2 more gladiators
3 more each of Blockade Runners & Frigates

They Shall Know Fear - Adepticon 40k TT Champion (2012 & 2013) & 40k TT Best Sport (2014), 40k TT Best Tactician (2015 & 2016)

I haven't played X-Wing in a long while either and recently asked myself why: is it because I don't like the game enough to make it a priority? No, I love the game. I think it is one of the best games I have ever played. The reason I am not playing it much is that I and my friends have been busy with more traditional miniatures gaming (modeling + painting + playing), which is very time intensive. But if someone were to say, hey let's have an X-Wing day, I would be down for that.

I need two know more about how it plays first. I prefer fleet games to dogfights, not that X-Wing is bad, but I'm already behind on releases so I might not want to play catch up.

And this is kinda my thing with X-wing too. Which I know will happen to a lesser extent with Armada but I'm just so many waves behind on X-wing. Granted, I've got a ton of stuff and I doubt I'll get rid of it. It's a fun random game. I've just found myself not picking up newer releases.

For instance I doubt I'll grab any of the S&V stuff because it's totally not my cup of tea. Plus ARMADA!!!! I do so love a fleet game.

I'm with you on S&V -- no interest at all, was pretty nonplussed at GenCon.

While I would be interested in Armada, I plan on getting Scum&Villainy and the Raider. After that I'll be broke, so can't get into Armada.

My group's newfound addiction to Xwing means Armada will be picked up without question.

I'm probably going to sell off all my rebels, keeping my Imperials, to buy an empire army for Armada.

Definitely getting into armada provided ffg keep it in print long enough that I can afford it. As for S&V I'm getting the most wanted set for the extra Zs, another Y & the Y modifications. A bomber that can fire twice in a turn? Yes please. Hello asteroid field control!

I'm most certainly getting it.

I was thinking of getting into X-wing but as soon as I heard they were doing a capital ships I preordered straight away.

Looking forward to fielding Star Destroyers

I love x-wing, but I REALLY love fleet battles. I like ships that can take a pounding and keep fighting. I'll definitely be getting into armada.

I am at this point unsure, I play X-Wing and love it, but have always been more interested in large scale fleet battles (still play Empire at War from time to time).

That said, Armada looks like more of a strike force level game than a fleet level game, and I have friends who are very interested in the Halo space game, so I might go for that instead if the rules aren't bad.

Can you elaborate on the distinction you're making between strike force level and fleet level games?

Id guess he's referring to the difference between BFG which is mean to be played with a dozen plus ships including squadrons of destroyers and frigates vs Armada which is meant to be played with a handful of ships operating independently.

I'm definitely looking at the Halo game as well.

Does anyone know what the standard points level is for Armada?

NM, I found it -- 300.

This is exactly what I meant. It looks like a standard Armada game might have you fielding 3-5 Empire and maybe 6-8 Rebel ships, with fielding over this becoming cumbersome (and very expensive), where I want a game that involves a much larger number of ships overall and large numbers of smaller ships (destroyers, frigates)

That's why I am hesitant, as I was originally hoping that Armada would allow me to field a decent fleet of Star Destroyers with the Executor being a huge ship, but now it looks like even Imperial Star Destroyers would be too big and too expensive points wise for this game.

I cannot imagine FFG would make this game and not do a Imperial-class SD.

But yeah, I don't think you will be controlling tons of ships in this game because it is clearly focused on tactical combat whereas games with larger model counts tend to be chess-like.

Imperial Star Destroyers wouldn't be too out of scale. The Victory SDs are currently a bit smaller than the X-Wing Millenium Falcon, so an ISD would be about the size of a Decimator.

Executor is right out though, it's like 15 times longer. But the problem with Executor is that while ISDs have a rebel counterpart, Executor does not.

Given a Victory 1 takes up 1/6 of your overall points cost by itself, I expect the Imperial-class will likely represent the upper limit points-wise as well as size-wise.

Not unreasonable. If you think about a large 200 pt game of X-Wing, a character Falcon takes up 1/6th your points. So you could see an ISD as the CR90 in normal X-Wing, or a centerpeice. To fight the opposing Mon Cal cruiser.

I think the analogy is a bit off because taking a CR90 in X-Wing puts you into separate tiers of play. Plus 200 pts is non-standard. But I do think Han or Chirenau at 100 pts is probably a good comparison.

It would be a bit larger than that; a Victory Class is around 900 meters while an Imperial is 1,600 meters, though the main problem I would expect is it would be very expensive points wise, so it would be hard to use in a standard game, possibly being comparable to a Blockade Runner.

They do in the Expanded Universe, The Viscount: http://starwars.wikia.com/wiki/Viscount-class_Star_Defender (and FFG has already proven they are more than willing to use the EU even if Disney wants to forget it)

I would say the Victory is of comparable size to the YT-1200 lengthwise.

While we're discussing size and points, don't forget cost. The Victory box is already MSRP 40 USD (10 bucks more than the Falcon), meaning an Imp-class will be at least 50USD.

I would guess you might be able to get in two of them plus some squadrons at 300pts. Not sure if you have to take a commander in Armada but, if not, you can get three Vic-Is with full generic squadrons in at 300pts.

Hmmm....when Armada comes out I wonder what it would take to make some house rules and a homemade base to use my Viscount model from Starship Battles as an Armada-sized Mon-Cal cruiser? It should be sized just right for one of the smaller classes, the model is a bit bigger than a Decimator model.

I think an official Star Destroyer model WILL come out for sure- it will probably be the size of an Xwing Rebel Transport.

Well, if they went true to scale it would be twice the length of the Victory, and at Gencon that model was pretty decently large. It'll sure be interesting to see, as I can't see it NOT happening as it's a sure sale.

V-class did not look super big to me at GenCon. I-class is less than 80% bigger. FFG is not overly concerned with scale anyhow. It would take a stunning degree of foolishness not to make the I-class for Armada.
