Hi hello P&M friends,

This thread is a spin off from the monthly model challenge where Paradigm, Buttery Commissar, and myself, all work on our FW Primarch models.

Deadline and rules are all as per the original thread here -> http://www.dakkadakka.com/dakkaforum/posts/list/669015.page

Anyone else want to paint a Primarch, feel free to jump on in

Not all Fulgrim, that would be far too Slaneeshy! I'll be representing Papa Nurgle in this one with Mortarion (or in actual fact Kabuki Models' Steam Knight', which I honestly prefer to FW's version... Of all the Primarchs, he's the only 'miss' for me). BC is indeed doing Fulgrim, either the Kabuki one or the FW one.

I for one will be trying to post as many WIPs here as possible, though since my model won't arrive for a few days, here's a stock pic so you can see what I'll be working on:

So yeah, feel free to chip in with any feedback or comments, and if you also fancy painting a Primarch this month then join us here and in the challenge thread!

Oh, I thought you were doing Fulgrim - if it is just primarchs, I do believe I have a Robot Gorillaman here that needs painting - I will have a look and see which one is easier/more likely to be finished.

Wow, that is a nice model! (I know that one's not yours, but still). Will be awesome to see one painted up

Yeah, I can't wait to get to work on him. Should fit the gritty style I like to work with perfectly and it looks like there's a load of potential for playing with some different textures and effects. I also have their versions of Lorgar and Vulkan coming, but I doubt I'll get any further than Morty this month.

@KB: Gulliman is my second favourite FW model after Horus, so I'm not at all biased in saying paint him now!

KB, don't try FW Fulgrim unless you have the actual PDF instructions. I couldn't work it out and I have held the demo version in the shop. It's ludicrous. Not KoS ludicrous but nearly.
When you get to the backpack fans on the marine in the base being individual, you know there's something badly wrong.

I was gonna do Kabuki and slowly build FW in the background. See how far I get. I figure alternating days of Primarch and army grind will keep me sane.

So only Primarch models, is that correct? Or we can still submit a - A model that is more powerful in some way?

This thread is purely a Primarch-off. However, this month's painting challenge is all about powerful models, so please do hit the link in the OP and enter there if you wish!

I refuse to use instructions, it completely destroys the fun.

I assembled an Exocrine/Haruspex yesterday without instructions, it was amazing.

His cape does freak me out though, it looks like it is really 3 capes. The base is already assembled and magnetized though, so I am not over concerned about that (yet)

Automatically Appended Next Post:

Pretty sure I need to do Girlyman, just to counter some of this heresy.

This is what I mean about Kabuki Fullers being a clever assembly.
His cape joins under his hand. I'm using gravity in lieu of effort here.

And then in pieces. It rally impresses me, but makes me think this will need pinning.

I worked out how to shimmy the blister and get these out.

Yeah, wow, we need pics!

@BC: that's very cool! Having just looked up some reviews/unboxings, those guys really do seem to know how to make a good pose without making assembly too fiddly. Unlike FW, by the sound of it...

I don't know that that is telling me. I would actually take a job designing instructions for FW if they just let me assemble one of whatever I'm doing.

The Tauros instructions are a 360 set of pictures of it.

Also I don't know what half these things are.

I shall accept the challenge...to assemble my Fulgrim. Painting ain't gonna happen anytime soon, but maybe I can at least finally get around to assembling him.

Still wet, but here's Fulgrim's base.
Jewels, coins, a statue and flagstones.

Ditched the stupid square step that came with him as it doesn't fit on a 40mm base.

Well, that's impressive! Very suitable for the character.

Mentioned this in the other thread, but my minis were shipped yesterday, so should turn up early next week.

Partner has gone home and taken the epoxy glue with him, so no work on Fulgrim until Monday. His cape is so heavy that I can't superglue it on.

My Morty is already painted, but he could do with some upgrades. I won't be competing, cause it won't be fair that I'm already done with most of him (coughandIsuckatpaintingcough), but I'll post some WiP pics as well.

I'm busy!

I'd lie and say i will post pictures tonight but I've got an exam tomorrow morning which i need to cram for.

This weekend though, i tells ya, i am going to thump the crap out of my hobby projects.

I am not happy at all with this BigBobbyG model, the previous owner was worse than trevors at modeling. Might cut some corners as it will never be perfect anyway

I built him, sculpted a base, primed him and are ready to go. Just forgot to share in this topic too.

Primarchs are in, assembled (well, as assembled as they're going to be until they're painted), and as of right now, it's on! I'm out gaming tonight, but very eager to get started so I may have a WIP or two for you all later on!

And so it begins...

Sadly the resin Morty is cast in doesn't take kindly to photography, the details are all much sharper than they look. Not really on par with the metals, to be honest, but for the price I paid (about £6.50) I'm more than happy with him. If I'd paid the £20 or so he was priced at on release I might have been a bit miffed, but as it is, it's all cool. The size is also quite strange; the minis themselves are a fair bit larger than Marines, though going from memory not quite as beefy as the FW Angron I have, but the heads are tiny, almost as if they're 25mm scale. So these guys in 40k Heroic Scale would probably be pretty massive. It's not too jarring, though.

And paint has started. Given my tendency to overlook weapons on some minis and thus reduce the overall impact, I decided here that I'd start with the scythe, which is a pretty mean-looking bit of gear. The version of Mortarian I'm painting is one very much on the way towards Chaos, so on the blade there's a lot of tinges and stains over my normal NMM job to give it that corrupted, tainted look. I'll carry elements of this across to other areas as well:

Still WIP, but coming along quite nicely, I think.

And for the sake of completeness, the other two minis I have to work on. They may or may not get done before the end of the month, but I'm not ruling it out just yet.

Lorgar:

And Vulkan:

Hope to have some more for you tomorrow!
