I dont know where i am... please... i dont know where i am

Hello!

I was wondering what people have been trying on there praetors and how it has been working. I play word bearers so i almost always run burning lore on mine but i am wondering about other wargear options such as jetbikes and terminator armor.

You should take a paragon blade. Always, if you're running a Praetor. It's just too good not to. +1 S, AP2, ID's on 6s, for 25pts. Only downside is specialist weapon.

Otherwise, I'd take just artificer armor with an iron halo. I wouldn't bother with bikes, termi armor, or jump packs, unless you plan on using bike, termi, or assault marine units. Most important is getting a Spartan Assault Tank, so you can fit him in with whatever squad you plan on grouping him with (even a maxed out tac squad) and be sure he'll make it into combat.

Hmm
Paragon Blade is always a must have, as its AP2 and not Unwieldy
For armour i would say Tartarus pattern Terminator armour, as you can Sweeping Advance with it (there is no point taking standard terminator armour now)
Iron halo is also a must have
I would also say swap out the combi-bolter for either a plasma blaster or volkite charger

Paragon blade, jetbike and halo could be fun.

I am just changing out the gun on one of my bac termie characters to have a volkite charger - going to keep the chainfist, might get a bit more adventurous with the one from my other box later

I usually run a lightning claw and paragon blade, iron halo and digital weapons, nets me 8 attacks on the charge with either shred for marine killing or a Paragon Blade for character killing, very useful.

I'm actually surprised that the Praetor does not come with a invulnerable save built in.

It depends on who.you are running them with?

The normal set up is artifier armour, iron halo and a paragon blade. But every praetor and their mum uses a paragon blade I much prefer my relic (BA) keeps It more interesting

Aren't the relic permissions only for the campaigns though?

No, its just a suggestion.

Plus what legion are you using?

H.B.M.C.- The end hath come! From now on armies will only consist of Astorath, Land Speeder Storms and Soul Grinders!
War Kitten- Vanden, you just taunted the Dank Lord Ezra. Prepare for seven years of fighting reality...
koooaei- Emperor: I envy your nipplehorns. <Magnus goes red. Permanently>
Neronoxx- If our Dreadnought doesn't have sick scuplted abs, we riot.
Frazzled- I don't generally call anyone by a term other than "sir" "maam" "youn g lady" "young man" or " HEY bag!"
Ruin- It's official, we've ran out of things to talk about on Dakka. Close the site. We're done.
mrhappyface- "They're more what you'd call guidlines than actual rules" - Captain Roboute Barbosa
Steve steveson- To be clear, I'd sell you all out for a bottle of scotch and a mid priced hooker.

Yes they are, so you need to clear it before hand with your opponent, 99% of the time no one will care, as said, it's suggested you clear it as they are not intended for normal games.

I thought it was the relics like the Nanyte Blaster, Warp Shunt Field, Phase Walker, Combat Augment Array, Cloaking Array, and Void Shield Harness which you had to ask permission before hand to use. Not the actual Legion relics, though I could be wrong.

The FAQ refers only to "Relics of the Dark Age of Technology", but since that's the name of the section wherein *all* the Relics appear - in a continuous list with no separation between the 'generic' and faction specific ones - it covers them all.

Nothing really stopping you though, like I said, most people won't mind, I have a whale of a time when my imp fist mate bring his forts and my worldbreaker lands in the middle of them.

well, here's my "top 5" items for praetors:
No. 5) Artificer + iron halo: a good, simple mix that keeps you durrable, but still able to sweeping advance (alternatively, use tartaros armor + Iron Halo, and do the same thing)
No. 4) (on terminators) Frag assault launcher: Cheap, 1 use assault grenades
No. 3) digital lasers: Paired with the paragon blade, you become a whirlwind of choppy doom
No. 2) Archeotec pistol: wounds marines on a 2+, P: 2, and is master crafted (so you can have TWO master crafted weapons!)
No. 1) Paragon blade: Hands down, one of the BEST CCWs that your praetor can take: I: 5, AP: 2 attacks makes you a threat to basically anything other then heavier tanks and Primarchs!

I'll never be able to repay CA for making GW realize that The Old World was a cash cow, left to die in a field.

I usually take it on my Diabolist so he can buff the unit of Gal Vorbak he's running with, and I'll take it on my Chaplain as well if I'm using Zardu Layak or Lorgar, for the extra dice. I don't know if I'd use it on a Praetor, since he's already pretty pricey, and that's just even more points in a single model who doesn't really do anything special (other than provide a rite of war).

On the other hand, Psykers are rare in 30k so Word Bearers should easily have dominance on the Psychic Phase (at least until Thousands Sons rules come lol). Being able to get some extra powers off, especially since they are Telepathy and Biomancy, can make a huge difference.

Exactly so. Look at it this way; even if all you ever use is Smite, that's still more or less a brace of plasma pistols which don't require spare hands to use, for the same price you'd pay for that.

And yes, telepathy can be amazing. With And They Shall Ignore The Rules Wherever Inconvenient not being part of this version of the game, stuff like terrify can be devastating - most things with fearless or stubborn pay through the nose for it. And that's ignoring Invisibility.

I would say that a Archaotyp Pistol is safe enough, that and Paragon Blade, Iron Halo and Artificer Armour is good.

No, not really. 100 points for 3 Marines in Artificer Armor with Bolters just isn't a good deal. Their options are OK, but again, they really don't do much for your Preator. Maybe if you take them in Terminator armor, but you can only do that if your Preator is in Terminator armor.

If you are looking for a good escort for your Preator, take a Legion Veteran Tactical Squad. Insane options, and overall, just better then the Command Squad. Also, you can attach an Apothecarion Detachment to the Vet Squad, and then join your Preator to it and now your whole squad can have Feel No Pain.

Legion Command Squads are not worth it unless you are going for a fluffy Legion.

The good thing about Legion Command Squads is that since they start at only 3 marines, you can fit them and a Praetor into a Land Raider when they are equipped with Terminator Armour (insert 'use a Spartan instead' argument here).
