I like my legion command squad. Yeah, they can be expensive, but they come base with artificer, all of them can accept and issue challenges, they have a 6" (? can't remember range) bubble of fearless, I like running mine with 4 power swords, 1 p. fist for chopping up any and all tactical squads I bump into. Remember: 30k is not 40k, not everything needs to be a game of "X is better then Y, so I will never use Y" bring what's cool, not what will be the cheesy-est.

Is the bodyguard command squad worth taking?

No, not really. 100 points for 3 Marines in Artificer Armor with Bolters just isn't a good deal. Their options are OK, but again, they really don't do much for your Preator. Maybe if you take them in Terminator armor, but you can only do that if your Preator is in Terminator armor.

If you are looking for a good escort for your Preator, take a Legion Veteran Tactical Squad. Insane options, and overall, just better then the Command Squad. Also, you can attach an Apothecarion Detachment to the Vet Squad, and then join your Preator to it and now your whole squad can have Feel No Pain.

Legion Command Squads are not worth it unless you are going for a fluffy Legion.

I disagree whole heartedly. fearless, gives other units fearless, come with more then "Bolters" just like vets., 2+ save, 2 wounds on the banner, challenge bonuses, more CCW options then vets., no force org. slot used up by them. you can attach an apothecary to command squads as well.

Vet. tac. squads are iffy at best in my opinion. There is to much high strength, low AP and weight of fire attacks that spending that much points on a 10-man 3+ save squad is just silly. Methinks a lot of there love currently comes from the fact that they double better into 40k, and with the release of Calth, most people have at least a squad or two of them.

I'll never be able to repay CA for making GW realize that The Old World was a cash cow, left to die in a field.

Well I have been considering Vet Tac squads for some armies since the Delegatus rules were released, but yeah, other than for small games, I can back that for the most part I was also heavily considering them for their ability to be used in 40k games. Though I can also say I never really looked into using the Tac Blobs, having mostly been lured in by the Night Lords Terror Squad Rights of War or taking Maloghurst for the Sons of Horus for Reaver Squads.
