I am surprised that that no one has posted it yet.

Thought you might be interested to know that according to my local GW manager, the whole #GW100 campaign a couple months back was for the opening of the 100th North American GW store on 28 May and on that day there will be an exclusive Space Marine Captain model available only in N. American GW stores.

Apparently, it's Finecast.

I am selling an original "Iron Warriors" painting by Karl Kopinski: http://www.ebay.ca/itm/121232313078?ssPageName=STRK:MESELX:IT&_trksid=p3984.m1555.l2649

I like him. He's toned down enough compared to other captain models that he would work fine as a veteran sergeant or member of a command squad or honor guard.

I'm working that day, so won't be able to make it to the only GW store in the state, but I'm still glad to see a US exclusive for once, after all the UK exclusives that come out on practically a yearly basis.

It's it really the 100th store?

They closed a bunch and now they're celebrating open more?

Pfft.

I'd give them $5 for it, maybe. Definitely not worth the $30 price tag it will inevitably have.

So shouldn't people get it free when they get Silver Tower?

Now that's not a bad deal at all if true.

Anyone not spend $100 at the actual store (for those who actually go, not those who will insert "I'd never set foot in the store" comments).

I'm sure ebay will be flooded with them.

Assuming you buy Silver Tower that day(May 28th), yes.

Anyone who preordered Silver Tower this past weekend or the Silver Tower Expansion set(Knight-Venator, Slaughterpriest, Tzeentch Sorcerer Lord, and Auric Runemaster at $55) and some extra gubbins this coming weekend won't be eligible since it's explicitly for May 28th.

I'm considering buying two just for the purpose of having one to paint, and one to save.

Can't you make that exact model out of currently available plastic bits?

You can come close, there's a few parts that won't line up right if you want exactly that.

Pretty close. In order to get the tabard, you would need a Sternguard kit, which would have extra embelishments on some bits.

That's what I thought. Well then, I guess this model just isn't anything special (certainly not a must buy), especially given 1) finecast and 2) you can easily bitsbash a version that is 'close enough for government work'.

Spend $150 get it free, otherwise I was told it's $20. (This is what my local GW manager has been saying for a week now)

I have to get $150ish worth of items anyways...sooooo, this will be my Nurgle victim on my Lords scenic base!

That was my thought as well - it must be the 100th "active" store. I'm surprised though, I thought there were more than 100! Has there been in the past?

Do we have confirmation that it is, in fact, Finecast? It would make me less disappointed about not being able to get one if it was.

It is Finecast. It's a brand new sculpt done just for this event, and the lead time was not enough to get a plastic kit going instead.

Personally, the reason I'm going for two? The unopened one will get sold later on, since he comes with rules that likely will not be available elsewhere like the Imperial Space Marine from the 30th.

The fact he does is the only thing driving my desire to own him at this point. The fact I can make my own with almost zero effort? That is just gravy.

What, you don’t already have a bolter/powerfist captain sitting on your shelf? One of the dozens GW has put out over the years? Or just one you built because he looked cool?

For me, it would be the old metal sternguard sarge given a promotion and a new lease on life.

Nope. I started in 2014, so long after the original kit existed. My two PA captains are a BP/Power Fist from the Clamp Pack Captain and a Relic Blade/Storm Shield from the SM Commander kit. So getting this guy would offer something a little different.

That Captain is pretty cool. The pose is nice and he's not buried under a mountain of bling.

Not picking on you in particular. But it seems that GW puts out a bolter/powerfist guy more often then not when making special models.

This isn’t helped by the fact that most people would never use that combo on the table. Or that if you’ve been playing for more then a few weeks, you have a functionally infinite number of both bolters and fists in your bitz box.

Edit:
Last I checked I could make a full 10 man squad, each with a unique powerfist. And I have duplicates of a lot of those (and have added more since then)

It's a shame that the Space Marine commander plastic box is now OOP. Now you have to either chose between a power sword/combi-grav or a powersword/plasma pistol for a generic captain. Oh, the possibilities!

With all that said I'm still probably going to get this guy regardless of his lame wargear. I'll just paint and watch him collect dust on my shelf.

They had 100 stores in North America in May 2013. 87 in May 2014. 84 in May 2015.
