"The green slime". A Japanese sci fi monster movie that's so bad it's hilarious. If you like B sci-fi movies you need to see this one.

The X from outer space. Similar to the above but featuring one Kaiju instead of a bunch of man sized monsters. A kaiju masterpiece sadly not con ected to godzilla so largely unknown.

Gorath. A more straight up Japanese sci-fi movie with one unececcasy and easily overlooked kaiju scene forced in at the producers demand. Usually not even seen in the american version. The "monster" here is a hyperdense object passing thru the solar system, the only way to safe earth I to movie it out of gorath's path. Totally bogus "science" but an entertaining sci-fi B movie.

Street Fighter. It's so cheesy and bad, yet it's still fun. Definitely in the "so bad it's good" category. Plus Raul Julia's performance as M. Bison was actually amazing.

It conquered the world was really a terribly movie with western legend n Lee van Cleef slumming in the schfi genre for once.

It was cheap and cheesy but actually had an intelligent bit in it about how a supremely logical, totally unemotional beings would be selfish and unable to form a society. It was a well reasoned argument against the totally logical and non emotional race working. Pure logic works only for an individual. Without emotion there's no empathy, no compassion, nothing like loyalty and patriotism. Only the logical self interest of the individual. A decent argument in favor of emotion as a necessity for a species to survive.

Creation of the humanoids was so cheap it looked like it was financed by couch change, but it has some bona fides credentials to it. The makeuyp effects on the humanoids was the last job done by the makeup man in his career. What was his first? He did the makeup for boris karloff in Frankenstein.

It also starred "Dudley Manlove", best knows as the Alien Eros in "Plan 9 from outer space".

It was ghawdawful, and sadly the only decent actor in it never made another movie...

But!

It had some concepts and thoughts on humanity and the nature of humanity in an age of technology that would not be seen until things like "Bladerunner" and "Ghost in the shell" came along. In fact it might have inspired GitS. In some ways the ideas and concepts were far beyond most movies of it's day.

My all-time favorite bad movie is Dune (1984). Despite being a narrative disaster, this film has some of the best production design in all cinematic sci fi. The soundtrack is phenomenal and the casting, aside from two notable misses, is nearly perfect.

The Satanaic Rites of Dracula (1974) is another good bad movie. Set in contemporary Britain, Dracula conspires to destroy the world via corrupt corporations and governments, using a buoengineered plague. Cutting edge stuff for ‘74.

Life Force (1985) has a really promising concept but a sloppy execution. I would love to see this movie remade.

Finally, AVP (2004) is a guilty pleasure.

Life Force should be great but it’s just kind of a debacle. This is the kind of film Hollywood should be remaking, rather than, say, RoboCop.

I've always liked Freejack. In the far future world of 2009, rich people can have their minds transferred into younger bodies, so they steal bodies from the past (people who are about to die). Emilio Estevez is a racing driver whose car flips into a bridge and is taken just before impact, but escapes before the procedure can take place.

Anthony Hopkins is the boss of the megacorporation, Rene Russo is his assistant (and was Estevez' girlfriend in her youth) and Mick Jagger stars as the mercenary assigned to hunt him down when he escapes.

“Good people are quick to help others in need, without hesitation or requiring proof the need is genuine. The wicked will believe they are fighting for good, but when others are in need they’ll be reluctant to help, withholding compassion until they see proof of that need. And yet Evil is quick to condemn, vilify and attack. For Evil, proof isn’t needed to bring harm, only hatred and a belief in the cause.”

favourite worst one of these :

...is truly, truly dire in every way.

Love it.

I also have a deep love of pretty much any of the 80s/90s horror films that had multiple films in the franchise, normally straight to VHS by about part 3 or 4, with few to none of the original cast left by then.

Children of the corn series and the like and especially :

also love

The poor man really has a stake in the country. The rich man hasn't; he can go away to New Guinea in a yacht. The poor have sometimes objected to being governed badly; the rich have always objected to being governed at all
We love our superheroes because they refuse to give up on us. We can analyze them out of existence, kill them, ban them, mock them, and still they return, patiently reminding us of who we are and what we wish we could be.

It gains some poignancy when you know he was dying of cancer, knew he had one movie left in him.....so he let his kids choose it.

"The 75mm gun is firing. The 37mm gun is firing, but is traversed round the wrong way. The Browning is jammed. I am saying "Driver, advance." and the driver, who can't hear me, is reversing. Frankenstein unbound. Despite the initials of the title this was no FU to the audience. It was a weird take on the frankenstein mythos and quite good in an offbeat way. Casting Raul Julia as Dr. Frankenstein was a strike of genius and he pulled it off incredibly. If you have not seen this do so.

Battle beyond the stars. Yeah, yeah, hokey low budget star wars ripoff, was still a fun little guilty pleasure.

Galaxy of terror. A strange little horror sci-fi movie. Very controversial due to the "giant maggot Rape scene" but featured a bucketful of talent including James Cameron, ray Walton, Edward Albert, Erin moran and Robert englund. Some plot twists and good acting, englund's role was strangely prophetic.

They said BAD movies. You got it wrong right out the gate.

If there was a truly bad movie that I can appreciate it's apparently Star Trek: Insurrection. At least, according to others. It doesn't even rank as the worst Trek movie of all time, but people hang gak on it constantly. I honestly can't think of too many movies that are THAT bad, but are still likeable Like ANYTHING with Will Ferrell as the main actor is complete swill, I can't even sit through it.

Now the issue may be that I like bad movies and somehow can't see them as bad. Man of Steel, Batman vs. Superman, and Justice League may prove that point.

Masters of the Universe (1987) deserves special mentiom ITT. It’s truly a crappy film - but oh wow it really could have been something. But it was a sinking ship sailing on the edge of the maelstrom that was Cannon’s final few gasps of life. The climactic fight scene between He-Man and Skeletor was filmed using only close ups because the set had already been dismantled! “Let this be our final battle!” Frank Langella’s performance as Skeletor should go down as one of the great villainous turns.

A former co-worker of mine was a movie fan and decided to lend me one of his worst movies which involved an ugly guy in a monster truck killing people in the US. When I handed him him back his movie he was very amused by the fact that that movie was really painful to watch for me. I decided to pay him back and lend him my copy of the following movie:

Als die Frauen noch Schwänze hatten (Original: Quando le donne avevano la coda) from 1970:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KB_2z2fqjwE

He later gave it back to me and said that I won our competition for worst movie.

Star Knight will always be my favorite for a trash talking night. Almost no one knows about it anymore, but it's this 70s-themed sci-fi/fantasy movie in which an incredibly aloof alien lands in medieval times (in a kingdom populated by about 4 people), captures the love of a princess, fights the entire army (all one of them), and gains a kingdom, all without touching anyone because touching anything earth-based will kill him instantly. There's also a alien/magic cat that does nothing but extend the end of the movie for five minutes. It's great, So much material.
