Commando is great. Definitely one the best comedies in history.

I would argue 13th Warrior isn't a bad movie, but was just an underwhelming film compared to what they were expecting box-office wise. The book is equally fantastic (Michael Crichton's Eaters of the Dead - originally a re-make of the Beowulf legend which he wrote on a bet, when a fellow professor stated that it was impossible to make Beowulf interesting, etc.)

More interestingly the research Crichton did tied in the bizarre but true link between Arab and Viking cultures (i.e. there's tons of historical reference material which shows a link between the two cultures, trade-wise etc.). I admit, 13th Warrior is my favourite movie, so I'm obviously a bit biased, but even at its worst I don't think it's in the same realm as proper "bad" movies, like Deep Blue Sea, etc.

I think 13th warrior is a good litmus test for how people judge movies. It has a pretty good plot and characters, but visually is a bit of disaster - from the Milanese armor to the random prop choices. It tends to divide people pretty heavily based on whether they consider movies to be a visual or story first medium.

You good sir has to apologize right away. Schwarzenegger performance was stellar in that one. He even ripped out a telephone booth for christ´s sake. I dare you to name a movie in which an actor does the same.

AvP and Promethius, just because it’s a halfway decent way to spend time in my favorite sci fi universe.

Still can’t bring myself to like AvP2 though.

Wow no one has mentioned star wars LOTR Krull?

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ndpV6qfQJVw

What a brilliant disaster of a film.

Its a glorious imaginative trainwreck of epic proportions there is nothing more than I can do as I watch helplessly laugh at its incompetence.

I really, really enjoyed the Last Jedi. I don't consider it a bad movie, in that I think it has good acting, it's gorgeously shot, and it has livelier dialogue than most post RotJ flicks. Virtually none of the resistance plot makes sense, but I felt it did a better job of capturing the spirit of the originals. I didn't watch it came to Netflix since I'd hear such negative things about it, but I was really surprised.

Kull the Conqueror..... but I have a soft-spot for Kevin Sorbo, especially pre-God's Not Dead Sorbo.

I agree its a gorgeous film... Thats about it. Twilight's last film was very well shot too. So thats not saying that much.

Compositions are great, just like the superman vs batman film having some wonderful shots but they don't amount to anything.

I genuinely love Krull. I don't think it is a trainwreck nor incompetent. It had a low budget and suffered from some studio interference, yet it is still a solid, imaginative fantasy movie of the kind that hasn't been made for decades. I'd rank it above Willow and maybe even Conan the Barbarian.

Krull had a huge budget for the time, more than Jedi or Supes 3, but that'll happen if you need to keep Neeson in booze

Did it? I know it started as The Dragons of Krull and kept getting changed. I have to wonder if the budget ballooned in preproduction, because it sure looks like a feisty low budget movie on screen.

My all-time favorite bad movie is Dune (1984). Despite being a narrative disaster, this film has some of the best production design in all cinematic sci fi. The soundtrack is phenomenal and the casting, aside from two notable misses, is nearly perfect.

Dune hurts too much. I'm a huge Frank Herbert fan AND a huge David Lynch fan, and the result there...ugh. It's like a singularity of disappointment. I'm excited about Villeneuve's version. What were your two casting misses, BTW? I have my own ideas about that, so I'm curious.

Is Captain Kronos: Vampire Hunter a bad film? I guess it can't not be. I liked it...it's quirky and creative. And you can't go wrong with Caroline Munro.

A Caroline Munro film you say?

Which reminds me of Sinbad. I love all the old Sinbad movies, as well as Jason and the Argonauts and Clash of the Titans. The first two Sinbad movies and Jason were pretty decent if dated, but I was not prepared for how bad Eye of the Tiger and Clash would be on rewatch. The effects hold up (for stop motion), but not the writing, acting or direction.

I'm with you here EVERY WORD right until you said maybe Conan. NOTHING tops Conan. I always have said that the perfect guy movie has to have two things: tits and beheadings. Those can be replaced one for one with explosions and/or really good actors. Conan has ALL FOUR. It can't get dethroned.

I did say "maybe".

Conan is one of my favorite fantasy movies, but for some reason I always feel let down by the very ending. It just feels off, like it lost some momentum after the climactic battle, and it affects how I feel about the film after I watch it.

For a related bad movie confession, you'd probably be surprised how highly I rate (the first and last ten minutes of) Conan the Destroyer. I'm almost afraid to revisit Red Sonja because of this.

First, Everett McGill as Stilgar. I really like McGill but he’s better suited to playing Andrew Jackson than a kind of sci fi sheik. The bigger issue is ... Kyle MacLachlan. I think he’s a great actor but he’s just wrong for Paul. Even in his early twenties, he looked too old.

See, I would have gone with Sean Young in a heartbeat. To me, Chani needs to be exotic and fierce, and she's neither of those things. Young might have been going for 'tough', but it came across as 'wooden'. Then again, she had about four lines of dialogue. I believe there were a lot of sietch scenes that were filmed and cut.

I'm going to back Manchu on this one...it's not a movie that would show up on anyone's list of bad films. Too well done by too many good people. Conan the Destroyer...different thing.

I never liked it (little too much ham acting), but I had a buddy that would watch it on a loop as he made chainmail.
