I voted for "At home with your own table" and "Game Store".

Having my own miniature wargaming table is what I would ideally like to do. But playing at a game store would be my best bet for the time being. Mainly so that I could get a better feel for the game that way.

Generally at a game store, during tournaments. Not many local players by me like to play 2000 point games, so I generally drive to tournaments. There are 3 "hot spots" for tournaments within an hour to an hour and a half, so it's not too bad to drive out twice a month to play.

Either:

With friends on a home table
With friends on a club table* (no option for this)
With club members on a club table

* My local gaming club is based in a pub where you can book the tables outside of club nights for personal use

Currently at local club on their tables, largely because I do not currently have space for a table of my own, shortly to be rectified

95% at my place (I'm "the host" normally) or my buddy's house. Game stores are rare. Prefer a more attractive game than you can normally get at a local game store.

At either the local (hour drive away) GW store or at a friends place. Unfortunately, my place is too small to have my own table.

You tried like the folding tables at all? That is what I do at the moment myself.

My local shop
----------------
It's a nice central location
Plenty of space (the upstairs is 1 gigantic gaming hall ) with tables & terrain (most owned by the shop but also player donated/supplied)
It's a great place to meet up with & play games with people you'd never actually invite home.
Plenty of parking
Plenty of food options for before/during/after play.

My place/friends place.
----------------------------------
There's a group of us who're actual friends that take turns hosting games.
Just because we'll play games with you at the shop doesn't get you an invite to these games....

I said at home. I prefer the gaming store (if a good one is availible) for many of the reasons ccs listed, but the nearest one is 450 miles away from me.

Used to play a lot at my own and friends' houses when I was younger but when I went to uni probably too much time was spent at the local GW.

Either:
At the weekly club, using their stuff, with 6x5 tables and oodles of scenery.
Or
At home, with my own stuff. We struggle with a 5x3 dining table and what scenery I can muster up.

I wonder how people play at their own and struggle to imagine how that is possible. The houses have to be huge or they have to have flats with multiple floors and not lving with grandparents or parents, or somehting like that.

All games we have here are at a store. No club because space costs too much.

We always used to play on the dinner table or a foldable table. You don't need a huge amount of space to manage a 4x4 board!

I have one of those expensive GW gaming boards (yeah, I'm a sucker for a brand name at times) and play at home or take it over to a friends.

Storable (either fold out or take apart) "board" and a dinner table ought to do it. Obviously this is not practical for all but a 4x4 mat and a bit of floorspace should be alright for your young limbs me old mucker.

Heck when I was a youngster we used to just mark the edges of the battlefield with game boxes and books.

Do you have rent-able space in a church hall, community centre, back-room of a pub?
We manage to get 4 hours of church hall time, use of tables and storage for £2-3 per person, per week.

Super high cost, and lets say our churchs are not very pro non christian stuff. Just a month or two ago they had public burning of books, models etc. Community centers are run by people who are pro church, plus they have prices set up for private schools and companies. The cost is just to big, there would either have to be 40 people paying every month or people would have to pay the cost a box of models every month.

But again, I would love to have a club, they sound very nice.

there would be no place to store it, plus you can never play where parents are home and work, or if your siblings are doing something, and if you have grandparents living with you then it is even worse. the avarge size of a flat in Poland is 20 square meters smaller, then the EU avarge. And this gets boosted by the fact that the last 10 years most flats builds were 100m2 and only in big cities. Kind of a hard to find a place to play, when kitchen is taken over by your mom, living room is where dad sleeps after work, and the room you share with your siblings maybe has 2m space that is not your bad.

Got a store 10 mins from my home, the GW store at 20 mins and then one club and 3 more stores in a 30 min range.

Not everywhere is Poland. Across large parts of Western Europe and North America it's not hugely uncommon to have flats with enough space to play a game if necessary. Many houses in the UK, for example, have plenty of storage and dining rooms or living rooms big enough to put up tables to support a game board. I used to live in a small 2-bedroom flat in the UK and even there I was able to get a 6"x4" table into the living room (just). It required cutting the board up into 3 sections for storage and used a fold-out table that collapsed down to a very compact shape when not in use but it was perfectly fine for an afternoon's gaming. Yes, if you live in London or a country where there isn't so much space in the average flat or house, you're unlikely to have the space to play at home but you are aware different places are different? It shouldn't come as a shock that space isn't a problem in many countries.

Well I did not claim that it is like where I live everywhere. Am just saying that with most people playing at home I struggle to imagine how huge the houses and blocks have to be to fit people in. As shock goes, am sure there is a lot of things that people wouldn't imagine that could happen, that happen here on a regular basis.

As for Poland the big flats that are 100m2 are build in western Poland and in big citities, we have a housing shortage since most of the houses here were destroyed durning WWI, yes one not two.

Most people here seem to prefer playing board games (Blackstone Fortress etc.) at home and take 40k to the club tables. Might be due to the extra effort of building/painting/storing a table when the club already has several...

Only at home (my own or friends'). I played at a GW once, about 12 years ago in a Lotr tournament, but I don't think that counts
How we do it? Kitchen table and some boards. A game mat. Aquarium terrain. One player in our group really likes terrain and built/bought lots of it which he sometimes brings to a game.

I got kids and, as far as I know, not a lot of 40k players in my area, so I tend to play on Tabletop Simulator. It allows me to play with my pals from all over the world, and (if I'm being honest) makes it much cheaper to adjust my lists when I want to try something new.

Assuming your not in a city yourself, do you have any kind of yard space or public parks? I have my own table and room dedicated to 40k in my home but when I was younger most of my games were played either on my parents dinning room or outside at a friends house on two folding tables.

Assuming the weather is good all you need is a table (maybe a plank of plywood to extend it) and some willing friends.

I understand that some people live in very small flats in urban centers, particularly in places like Japan, etc. However, even in most European countries I can't see an issue setting up a 6'x5' table made from some folding tables. I can do that in a smallish 600-700 square foot apartment without issue.

I don't think anyone is expecting people to have a dedicated gaming room with an 8'x4' permanent table, etc. One of the reasons I own my two folding table system is because I can fold them up, slot them in my admittedly smallish car, throw a mat and a few bins of terrain and travel with it. I can fold the tables and stash them when I'm not using them, etc. I'm a single guy who lives in relatively small apartments, etc...so I simply adapt to my current lifestyle. Haven't found an issue. I'd say storying several bins of terrain to be a bit more of an issue.

Well I do live in a city town of 22k people, so it ain't the largest of places. We have public parks, but weather in Poland is always bad. Either it is too hot like today, or it is raining. Plus shop owners do not like people hanging around parks that don't buy stuff or who could scare away customers. They always call police or city guard on people that hang around parks. There is also one more thing am not really sure. In Poland you can't just bring a table and set it up in a public place, you need a licens for that. And I really wouldn't want to end with a 50$ fine for trying to play outside. In general police, and specially city guard are aholes here, as far as young people goes.

We have a different defintion of small 650 square foot is what my parents have after 30 years of working. Ton of flats are 340-350, that is for familes, not just for one person living in it.

Gotcha. I understand the issue, namely if you're not living solo. I just don't imagine it's a stretch for "most" gamers to find a way (even temporarily) to pop up some folding tables. I have been to a few places where they were stretching it though - don't like cramped gaming.

Mostly at my house as I have all of the amenities, but on occasion at the local Warhammer store.

I used to play with a local club who had their own tables and terrain, but the venue the club would always meet at went out of business. The core club goers and I still get together and throw dice, but now it's at the local Warhammer store or at my house.
