Ummm, maybe im just unlucky or its purely a European phenomena but what would you consider a "club"? My only option in the various places ive played in the states have been games stores or at home. Occasionally a Rec Center, but you're still bringing your own stuff so like playing at home.

Wargaming clubs don't exist in the US - at least not the way the UK members see them. Mainly because we have a ton of space and we're too cheap to pay into a club fee for a nice location.

In the US your "club" is nothing more than the people you normally play with. You may have t-shirts if you have a name and attend tournaments or events. I have a game store that's literally three minutes from my apartment. However, I have a table here...all of my terrain (which is heaps better than what's at the store) and we have space, time...and snacks/drinks/beer, etc. I have zero reason to go wedge myself onto a small table between a bunch of card-game players.

I don't do tournaments etc. so it doesn't impact me. In the US you're far less likely to find a game store with a dedicated aim of entertaining tabletop gamers. Card games were vastly more profitable and draw 5x as many people. There are a few exceptions but generally it's a fight for table space, particularly on weekends/evenings.

I have heard of one or two proper "clubs" (i.e. fees/dues and a dedicated rented space/location for the group) but they're normally in heavy city locations.

That is because you Brits are too poor after having to fork out over the whole messy divorece with the EU

As far as where I game, Well I prefer to game at home in the comfort of having food, drinks and what not readily at hand, and not having to pack my armies. Or if this is not an option I play at a local club and pay a smal fee for it

Meh. I have room at home (on the dining table), but tables at my local gaming club are always available with the added bonus of beautifully made terrain. It's also a much more convenient location for my wargaming friends...

@Trondheim Yeah for sure army transportation is a huge pain..

I play at a local community centre. Its lots of room and very easy to arrange games via the FB page. Its got great range of terrain and tables.

Downside is I cant have a beer and some snacks, which would be badass. Also kind of have to watch what I say in case someone gets upset lol(words of the bad curse variety). Ultimately wIll have a dining table game space in the future for sho when I move into my own house next year.

My God, I think I'd lose my mind packing my army everytime I went to play. One friend just leaves his here and get to put them on display

Quite true, even though I game at a "club" it is mostly something set up by facebook every week, no dues or anything.

How do I game?

Well, my opponent and I make lists using our Codices, then we set terrain up on a table, deploy forces, and play a scenario from the 3rd Ed. rulebook.

In all seriousness, I'm blessed in so far as all four options apply to my gaming.

Not counting tournaments, I play roughly one game a week on my table at home and one game a week at my FLGS. Games at home are generally Narrative with some preparation/ prior framing of the the game. Games at the FLGS (has twenty 4x6 tables) are generally Matched pickup games. Our FLGS has a good community with a message board where we can alsomset up games. So i guess it's kinda like a free club.

Home games are fun due to beer, pretzels and music. Home games also have less time constraints. Store games are fun because you meet new opponents/ meet in the middle.

I figure I am lucky to have both options! One is courtesy of an understanding wife and the other is because of a dedicated FLGS owner plus some key gaming community leaders.

All you have to do is fire three rounds a minute, and stand

I have my own small gamingroom. It costs everything: The wife is allowed to decorate the rest of the flat as she likes. Luckily she doesn't like too much pink... xD

Lately I enjoyed games at our local Warhammer Store. It is nice to have. But I prefer the games at home.

We have a little community of gamers here, but no real club. Every single one of us has the opportunity to play at home. No big deal.

Ok, then I have unknowingly lied about there being no clubs here. The AoS guys do go game as a group in same shirts, as do some w40k people, do it too, mostly the guys who go play in bigger cities.

I think it was only worth pointing that out for the UK folks. The UK, probably more so than any other country I've seen has a long history (dating back decades at least) of actual proper gaming clubs. With a dedicated space, members, dues, fees, etc. It's not just 40K. It's every type of wargaming. Some are even in pubs, the lucky bastards. However since Dakka has a large UK membership they might think every country does it, while it's far and away a UK-centric practice.

I'd imagine in most countries is more similar to the US. Groups of buddies getting together at local game stores or in garages/homes and gaming...maybe traveling to events and tournaments together. But we don't often have the dedicated spaces, or dues/membership, etc.

Combination of home gaming (Kill Team and small skirmish games) and my local Games Workshop - which just happens to be Warhammer World.

In most cases, I just go to WHW - lovely terrain, plenty of room and choices, beer and food, only a short tram journey away, and more gaming space than the place I'm living at the moment.

I wish I could have voted for "At home with your own table." But, none of the people that I know play tabletop war games live anywhere near me. And, while I haven't gone out and made a concerted effort to find any, no one around where I live plays tabletop war games (closest hobby store of any kind is a 30 minute drive, closest gaming store is 40 to 45 minutes).

So, when I play, it'll definitely be at the closest GW to where I live (45 or so minutes) or the FLGS a few more minutes down the road (a little under an hour depending on traffic).

At home! With a big table, a fridge and a wall tv.

Oh, theres a brothel at the end of the garden so I can just turf the girls out for the evening and pull tables together. Passive income is a wonderful thing and their hard work pays for the gaming...

Casual gaming, mostly solo-coop these days.

Yep - just back from an evening gaming in the club room above the pub after work - 1000 points RK vs SW. With terrain and beer

I did actually lose by forgetting to shoot all my weapons so perhaps that was the beer

I'm in an incredibly gamer rich area for just about any game you can think of. So I play everywhere there is to play andI play a lot. Events are everywhere and I can go to 2-3 events a month if I wanted to travel a little. I run events all the time. I will have run 2 this month and have run one each of the last three months.

I am blessed to be able to play from Bellingham to Portland or in the other direction, the numerous game hubs between Olympia and Boise! It's crazy.
