So there don't seem to be any normal animals in the Pokemon world, no cows or chickens or horses, just Pokemons.



Which raises the question, what does everyone eat?

Are they all vegetarians (there seem to be normal plants alongside the Grass Type Mons), or... do they eat Pokemon?

Vegetarian seems very possible, Japan after all was almost entirely vegetarian (except for fish) till the Meiji restoration. And there's probably over a billion vegetarians (of various stripes) in the world today. We can just assume that any time Ash or Satoshi are seen eating something meat-like it's actually a meat substitute, a dish left over from the days people ate the magical sentient creatures that inhabit the world alongside them.

Plus Pokemon are apparently hard to kill. When forced into that world's legalized cock-fighting industry they fight until they pass out and then are no worse for the wear a few hours later. Lightning bolts, falling boulders, punches don't seem to kill them.

And there is such a thing as ghost Pokemon. Now most people believe in an afterlife of some form but history shows that they beliefs have not always tempered our actions. But if there were honest to gosh ghosts walking around the neighborhood (and being enslaved to fight in the legalized cock fighting rings) I might seriously reconsider my lifestyle. I love burgers, but I daresay one encounter with a ghost cow (Moo-Boo! Moo-Boo!) would change my diet pretty fast.

But maybe there are some unseen races of foodstuff pokemons (Burgermon, Steakmon, Baconmon) or Pokemon who produce meat without having to harm a living thing.

These seems to be a question that is often conveniently left unanswered. In the anime you'll see people eating traditional animal foods for example, like fish, sushi, BBQ. We see people who are farmers and fisherman. Exactly where all this food comes from though kind of goes unanswered because of we never see any of these animals except for fish. We see lots of non-pokemon fish.

And that's in the anime.

The games seem to more subtly imply humans do eat Pokemon, but they avoid talking much about it for... obvious reasons.

The special collections tend to be for more avid collectors because they contain unique cards, but there aren't enough cards in there to make a full deck. EDIT: You could get them if the girls want something cool looking or such I guess, but they'd still need a base to put those cards in.There's just not enough in those packs to play.

I'd suggest getting starter decks x #of girls. That'll give them enough cards to play up front. Starter decks come in packages that look like this; link. If you have 2, another good option are the Trainer Packs which come with 2 decks and a quick rules. Those I link here are just examples. There are others out there.

Thank you! I have been going literally (well figuratively) insane trying to find 'Pokémon starter decks' and now I know what to look for. I'll still get the Pikachu/Eevee set since Kyoto Secunda was Eevee for Halloween and Kyoto Secunda Prime was Pikachu.

Now just need someone who'll ship overseas

Slowpoketails being illegally harvested and sold as delicacies is a plot point in the Gen 2 games.

Frankly, given how dangerous the vast majority of Pokemon are, I don't even know humanity, with our non-super powered glory, managed to evolve long enough to even create the technology to enslave er..."befriend" them for recreational purposes. It's not like with IRL animals where they might be dangerous but they're limited by needing to generally be within melee range to cause problems, there's a crap ton of pokemon that can just flat out destroy human tribes/villages or are immune to physical attacks. The best I can think of humans surviving is lucking out in somehow domesticating pokemon to kill other ones long enough to survive.

It depends on when in the Pokemon canon you are.

Originally, the Pokemon world had normal animals too. Pokemon were monsters, but there were normal animals like dogs, cats, chickens, cows, etc...

Then later, they changed it so that the Pokemon world's animals are all Pokemon. Which is why stuff like Tarus, Meowth, Rattatas, etc... exist. Presumably all of the Pokemon that are similar to real world farm animals are raised for meat, milk, and eggs like normal animals are. They gloss over all of this because its a kids show. Which is also why Ash is somehow 20+ years old but still visually remains a 10 year old kid.

Some of the movies have shown that at least certain pokemon were domesticated prior to the invention of the Pokeball. The movie with Lucario showed Pokemon being used in an ancient medieval battle as tamed beasts, much like you would have horses, war dogs, etc... in the real world. This implies that Pokemon can be domesticated like real world animals. No rational person would think humans would survive to tame wolves, yet freaking chihuahuas exist now.

If all animals in that world are Pokemon, that means humans are pokemon too. Perhaps the power humans have is one of being able to dominate other pokemon through various means. Be it domestication or through scientific brainwashing by crafting pokeballs.

Well team Rocket does seem to survive a whole mess of potentially fatal injuries.

Maybe the whole Poke World is a genetic experiment conducted by god like post human scientists?

Some species don't take to it well, but the more social animals are, the easier it is to impose people into/onto their social order, especially when working with juveniles.
