For people who like narrative games and giving your army its own fluff, what's your army's story so far?

I don't have one for the whole army but I do have one Gretchen that has a story. I was working on the warbikers kit outside at work one day. I work close to the airport and its often very windy. A huge gust comes up and blows the box of bits that I'm working on off the table. I thought I found everything and boxed it back up. Later on at home that night I went to finish them up and I couldn't find one of the gobbos heads.

The next morning I went back out on the patio at work and walked around for about 10 minutes. I had just given up when out of the corner of my eye I see it on the ground. The head is in good shape, however, one of his ears had somehow broken off on the concrete. I took him home and decided that this guy lived through something harrowing and he would not just be some Gretchen on the back of a warbike. He would be a greenskin among greenskins. After all, he was pulled through a wazbom blastajet and made it all the way through the engine, only losing an ear. You don't want to mess with a gobbo that tough!

And so the head went on a real Gretchen body. And now he exists as the leader of my kill team. Which are all missing one ear, taken at the exact moment that ork or gobbo joins the elite Deaf Squad!

I have an overall story in progress for a Craftworld. They basically believe that to save the Eldar race they need to bring about the Rhana Dandra and then 'win' it which will allow Eldar to resurrect themselves again and they'll be back on top because unlimited psychic powers and immortality.

To get that done they basically wander around the galaxy recovering Eldar weaponry they know about and have a higher proportion of warriors than other Craftworlds as well as limited use of automata. The current thing is they're heading back to their Crone World to recover a stash of weaponry and are weakening the worlds between them and the Eye as well as preparing to face the Demon Prince(ess) that now rules their world.

Hey, if you want to read some old, badly-in-need-of-a-new-draft fluff, I have a writeup here. Basically they are a Guard regiment from a former paradise world, which happened to be on the wrong end of a detonating Mechanicus ship; so it is now a volcanic world.

I really need to revisit this, as there are loads of areas that I could improve. I think that the timeline is a bit weird and I am really tempted to make them a weird regiment type, like "armoured logistics" or something. I love the idea of weird beuraucratic classifications leading to hillarity.

My Ork army is a Blood Axes mercenary group that operates out of a Space Hulk called the Omen of Strife. They have a Warphead as Warboss who I affectionately call the Warpboss. There is a hierarchy of various Bosses, Big Meks, Painboyz, etc... and every battle I check to see if one of them dies. If so they get replaced with a lower rank Nob who fills the role. Couple of storylines: Major Screwloose failed the Warpboss too many times and was disintegrated and replaced with Major Tek'ead and the Big Meks gathered enough materiel from fighting Imperials to create a Morkanaut called Cog'ead.

My Ad Mech forces are from Forgeworld Matrix, with a dark green and light green color scheme. Explorator Magos Enzo was exiled by the Fabricator General of Matrix, who feared Enzo was becoming to politically powerful and for possibly being a heretek (but with no evidence). Additionally Knight House Andrala that has allied with him from a planet full of megafauna, which the knights hunt.

tl:dr - Planet secedes from the Imperium under the leadership of a Mary Sue who has fallen to Slaanesh 'cause he misses his ex.

For my Drukhari Kill Team(s), they're in thrall to the same Greater Daemon who appears in the above narrative; The Violet Heart.

I play eldar soup, and the narrative throughline is that they were a group of Ynnead cultists from before the Ynnari were a thing. They believe in aeldari solidarity, but are secretly funded by Urien Rakarth, himself a Ynnead cultist who has aspirations on ascension to divinity.

My Eldar craftworld is a conglomerate of several smaller damaged ones from just after the fall. Each one is a series of clans that traditionally fall into specific paths. Thus one clan might be a witch clan, another an artisan clan etc. Although they are joined together their distinct cultures sometimes clash and they have an over arching supervisory council drawn from the household heads of each clan.

My grot army is built around the secret assassin deployed by the red gobbo when he needs rivals erased. This would be Da Ninja Gobbo and his acolytes. The five point palm exploding grot tekneek is particularly impressive.

My 13th company army is severely mutated from bring in the eye and are all werewolf freaks led by what would be a demon prince to anyone else

Though I don't have a tale for the entire clan (as yet), I have a "Weirdboy" that is effectively two Grots standing on each other pretending to be an Ork. I modelled them after the scaremonger from AOS with a few tweaks.

They wear the Evil Sunz emblem as a mask and have convinced the other Orks so well that they have developed actual psychic powers. In my head canon the Grots take it in turns acting as the dominant "Sun 'Ead".

Their names? Zag'ead and Zog'wit.

My kabalites are part of the Shard of the Smoking Mirror, a recent addition to the Kabal of the Flayed Skull incorporated when their "archon" (Dracon) Telesh Kalipoch murdered his sister, committed to their continued (doomed!) independence as a minor player in the Dark City, and offered her head to Vraesque Malidrach in fealty. The Nemeses Errant were (and are) a Chapter of Space Marines descended from the Dark Angels. In M38, their Supreme Grand Master went crazy, at the urging of his Chaos-tainted Chief Librarian, and took three Companies into the Warp to try to perform a ritual to chain the Chaos Gods themselves. Those Companies were presumed lost. The Imperium sanctioned the Nemeses Errant nearly to death, until only a single Company remained under the leadership (and watchful eye) of an Ordo Hereticus Inquisitor.

In M39, a warband of Chaos Space Marines blasted their way out of the Warp. Calling themselves the Sin-Eaters, they were decreed a previously unknown warband. In truth, these were the corrupted members of the Nemeses Errant, now turned to Chaos. However, they have maintained the Dark Angels' layers of secrecy. The rank-and-file members of the Sin-Eaters believe they are still loyalists. "Middle management" believes they are unsanctioned loyalists, but still in service to the Emperor, taking on the "sin" of disobedience in order to do the dirty jobs no one wants to do, but need doing. Only the "inner circle" knows the truth, that the "Chapter" is thoroughly corrupted.

Now, the remains of the Nemeses Errant hunt these Sin-Eaters, feeling they must have some connection to their missing brethren. They try to keep the Inquisitor in the dark as much as possible, but one day she will find out the truth. When she does, she will have to decide whether or not to sanction the remains of the Nemeses Errant or help them in their redemptive crusade.

A UM successor, my chapter lost it's home world to Tyranid attack, and has been fleet-based ever since. It is in near constant contact with the tyranid fleet responsible, and has been essentially conducting a guerilla war against it, mostly in space. The chapter color was originally gray, but it switched to white out of mourning for their home world, and because it helps visibility during boarding actions on Tyranid vessels.

I've also got a couple of marine armies:

Normal space wolf Great company, under the spirit wolf totem. Built around a core of veteran Grey hunters and the wolf guard of Hrolf spirit wolf. His twin brother vermundr is a rune priest. He has a more animistic outlook on the world and has always been sensitive to his brother's abilities. They were last seen hunting the black legion during the eye of terror campaign.

Salamanders 2nd company
This was my attempt to create an entire company with names and background for each model. Never entirely completed, but I had fun building all the marines and converting the characters. They were built for the 3rd war for Armageddon campaign, and all their background is around the battles fought there.

The crusade of tears
I bought a company box set during the first apocalypse edition and decided I'd build each squad as a different chapter because I was tired of painting the same colour on every model.
Out in the halo stars the crusade was caught by warp storms and lost its navigators and a fluke attack killed most of their commanders.

Due to their standing amongst their fellows, the remaining Ultramarines took up liaison and defacto sergeant roles across the varied marine units to provide coherency.

The idea was to convert each unit as a specialist veteran unit with gear and adaptations to their isolation. Really wanted to do up a grey hunter squad with lasguns, packs and cloaks like a pic from the Horus heresy card game.

Like a lot of my armies this is also unfinished.

I never had a story for my blood angels, they were just my favourite from space crusade so I wanted some.

Mine is still under construction. I've got it all in my head but it's a real chore to put it down in written form. I shall try to summarise and keep it summarised as much as possible as it would be easy to go off on related tangents and explanations and characters.
They're sisters of battle.

Basically, There was a war of faith. Fleet orbiting enemy held planet crash lands when chaos happens and the whole planet gets smashed by warp storms. Surviving sisters of Ebon Chalice and Bloody Rose eventually combine into a single order they call The Order of the Penitent Spirit.
For 2000 years they fight the enemy forces and constant demonic and heretic incursions and during that time manage to take the planet and guide it's inhabitants into the imperial creed.
The forming of the great rift ironically is what calms the storm around the planet and the inhabitants now find themselves in the dark imperium. Slowly, imperial fleet ships start showing up, drawn to the planet as the navigators see it as a pin prick of light in the dark madness of the warp now drvoid of the astronomican (I have some Battlefleet gothic ships I use for the fleet).
They believe that the emperor tested them during that time and released them in these dark days because he found them and their beliefs to be true and to bring his light to the darkness. They encounter primaris and consider them heresy. They believe roboute to be an imposter. Having fought against heretic astartes for 2000 years, they have a good deal of contempt for space marines and do not hide it and while they might restrain themselves from fighting loyal marines (unless they embrace the heresy of primaris) they are more than able to lay down some sick burns.

That's them in a nutshell. There is a lot more. A. Lot. More. Much more details and characters such as the head of the Order Cannoness Willona Ryder who was captured and raped by mutants in her earlier days; fell pregnant during that and was visited by one of the saints that prophesied the child would grow to be a bulwark of faith and be the hammer of witches. Said child grew up to become the ranking Inquisitor Lord of the planet's inquisitorial enclave.
I could go on but I'd spend forever typing and as I said, it's mostly in my head.

Though I shall leave off with a small thing I wrote recently regarding their appearance.

Visual appearance of the Order and it's historical and theological influences and significance.

The Armour of the Order of the Penitent Spirit is a deep dark purple that symbolises the perpetual starless midnight that the planet Avlon endured in its two thousand years cut off from the imperium in the warp. The Armour is often trimmed or gilded with gold, making each suit a shrine offering the emperor's protection to the wearer and his wrath to the enemy as the empowered sisters glorify the God emperor in holy battle.

The fire retardent robes worn are two toned and pay homage to the Orders origins.
The outer layer is black, signifying The Ebon Chalice.
The inner layer is a dark red, signifying The Bloody Rose.

Like any imperial world, there is a mass of different colours of skin and hair and eye colour in the population. However it is known the the dominant genetic gene present makes pale skin and red hair the most common appearance on the planet and as result, within the Order itself.

The appearance of the women and in particular the aesthetic beliefs of the women of the a order has given some outside the influence of Avlon some manner of debate.
While it is said by some that many young women of righteous character are chosen for the Sororitas especially if they are conventionally beautiful; it would seem that the sisters of the Penitent Spirit are an embodiment of that practice.
While there are degrees of what is considered beautiful to the viewers eye that is subjective, what is unique to these sisters is the lack of and even abhoration of battle scarring.
Wounds are unavoidably suffered on the battlefield, but where others may allow these wounds to scar and possibly be considered badges of honour; the Penitent Spirit see such things as sin.
There is a passage in imperial scripture that reads:
We bear the emperor's light. Our bodies are temples of his light that is in us.

They believe it is hypocritical at best and heretical at worst that many would be willing to repair a broken window or blast damaged wall of a shrine to the emperor or one of his churches- mere imperfect buildings that are made by weak human hands; but would not do all they could to repair a human body that had been crafted before birth by the emperor's perfect hands and which bears his light.

Due to this belief, sisters of the Penitent Spirit will often undergo advanced reconstructive surgery post battle to restore their appearances. If a limb is to be replaced, it is replaced with a heavily ornamented bubonic. The Hospitaller and mechanicus that perform these surgeries are highly sought after in the noble houses.
As such, it is extremely rare to find a sister within the Order that bears any more than the faintest of a surgical scar. What women that can be found with scars are ones that have suffered wounds so grievous that no surgery can restore.
These women often choose to leave their sisters and join the ranks of the Repentia- so shamed that their light bearing vessel is so damaged, they will prefer to seek death in battle that they may be in the emperor's perfect presence and made anew.

Won't go into too much detail, as there's a lot of armies/planned armies, but basic summaries of them:

Spoiler:
Ultramarines 2nd Company - not much here unique, just the Ultramarines 2nd Company, led by Sicarius. When I've played them in narrative campaigns, I play them as a demi-company, Strikeforce Praetoria, led by Acting-Captain Aurelius (who I'll later mention).

Ultramarines 1st Company - again, not too much unique, standard Terminators, Sternguard, Tyrannic War Vets, etc etc.

Ultramarines 5th Demi-Company - all Primaris, led by Captain Phelian, new inductees from the Indomitus Crusade.

Cadian 13th Combined Regiment - due to a series of logistical mishaps, the Cadian 13th Infantry and Cadian 13th Artillery were both deployed together in dealing with a completely mundane incident. However, when the incident escalated as a result of there being simply so many guardsmen threatening what was supposed to be a routine inspection, rebel forces erupted into violence, devastating the regiments. Since then, the two regiments have combined to make up for their weakened numbers. However, with Cadia being now gone, and the regiment having taken even further disastrous losses from political infighting, they've taken up more of a garrisoning role in the local star system.

Gallican 3rd Armoured Regiment - tankers from a forest world, strongly based on oral tradition and shanties. The sound of singing through the hulls of their grey-armoured Leman Russes can sometimes be reported by allied forces.

141st Omegan Drakes - Scion forces, used for aerial insertion and pinpoint attacks on enemy command structures.

Grey Knights - A small brotherhood of Paladins, operating where the Warp is thinnest and most vulnerable.

Killclade-66 - A hunting party of Skitarii, stalking tech-heretics and potential xeno-tech assets, based around a unique warp gyre.

Dawn Blades - Homebrew Primaris Chapter, led by Aurelius (as mentioned above), following his exile from the Ultramarines - made up of the remnants of a Greyshield taskforce, and slowly rebuilding from their newly settled fortress-monastery. Named after a Heresy-era relic blade wielded by a Legate of the Ultramarines Legion, recovered and given to Aurelius during a particularly eventful campaign, and still wielded by their Chapter Master to this day.

Order of the Blue Thorn - Following a vision where Guilliman would return to the Imperium, a small order of Sisters of Battle was founded around this prophet who spoke of a blue rose rising from, piercing it's thorns in the side of the archenemy. Having been proven true, the Order has grown in power and influence, much to the dislike of the Primarch.

Crusade Command - Guilliman, accompanied by Victrix Guard, and Custodes each.

The Black-Clad - A warband of the Black Legion, consisting of numerous turncoats from other traitor Legions. Trusted by Abaddon, sent to destablise outlying systems and disrupt Imperial supply lines with brutal raids and ambushes.

The Garantine Swarm - A genestealer brood inhabiting the asteroid penal colony of Garant.

The Garantine Penal Corps - Asteroid mining prisoners, allowed a chance at escaping the brutal conditions of their home by service in the Guard. Elements of the Penal Corps have also ended up in service to both the Black Clad and the Garantine Swarm.

Think that covers everything!

Somewhere in Canada

So I am an absolutely insane human being who does really weird things with 40k I want to write for Black Library some day, but I want to make sure anything I put in a book was something that could have actually happened in a game. I'm sick of the stuff in the books coming nowhere near what actually happens on the table. So I build campaigns that fit a loose storyline, then play out the campaign to see what actually happens.

This is most exciting for my Genestealers [The Cult of the Living Thresher] and my Slaanesh Cult [The Cult of Carnal Light].

My Sisters, which are my primary army, have some play history from 2007-2008. The idea here is that they began as a Commandery of the Order of Our Martyred Lady, stationed on the Shrineworld of Orison's Wake in the Galactic Western Fringe of Sector Pacificus. The Commandery was established to defend the Cathedral of Saint Katherine's Aegis. The Crusade that liberated the entire Daesdaemona system from Goge Vandire's Reign of Blood began on Orison's Wake. Upon the liberation of the system, Saint Katherine herself presided over the consecration of the Cathedral built in her honour, as it had been the Order of the Fiery Heart who won the freedom of the System.

Shortly after Katherine was Martyred at the hand of the witch cult of Mnestteus, the Dedaemona system was cut of from the Imperium by warp storms. The Pilgrims attributed the phenomenon to the death of their Patron Saint, and many chose to end their own lives. The planet was re-designated as an agriworld. Sisters Stationed at the Commandery were redeployed throughout the system as needed, with none of the Orders in System receiving reinforcements from the the Convent.

For a thousand years, Orison's Wake's population was redistributed to the Hive worlds in system as more and more of the land mas was surrendered to hardy crops that could be grown and harvested many times in a typical year. The forces needed to protect such a diminished population diminished dramatically over time. In the latter half of M39, however, a rogue force of Orks found themselves caught between the storms surrounding Desdaemona and a combined Corsair and Biel Tan fleet that not only broke the orkish siege on a nearby Maiden World, but now pursued the remnants of the Orkish fleet to absolute destruction. Caught in a desperate situation, the Warboss ordered his fleet into the warp storms, and some how made it through to Orison's Wake. The Eldar, reluctant to let their quarry escape used the Maiden World's Webway gate to bypass the storms

In the battle that ensued upon the surface of Orison's Wake as a result, the Sisters defending the Cathdral found themselves in a moment of desperation. Palatine Jahalla Athabraxis ordered her Celestians to hold of the Warboss and his Nobz long enough for one last gambit. There, beneath the Altar of Katherine's Aegis, Jahalla found the Praesidum Protectiva where Saint Katherine had left it more than a thousand years earlier after being given a vision of the Martyrdom that awaited her.

Jahalla retrieved the artifact and rallied her sisters and other Imperial allies to ultimate victory. And again, peace fell upon Orison's Wake, as Jahalla Athebraxis took her place, in time, as Canoness of the Order of Saint Katherine's Aegis.

Now, 12-13 years after I played that game, GW has actually released a model that includes a model representing an OoOML Cannoness Superior carrying the Praesidium Protectiva. I'm converting my Triumph so that each of the models are removable, just so I can use her as Jahalla Athebraxis. So the retcon with new fluff, is that when the Cicatrix Maledictum tears the galaxy in half, it redistributes warp energy, bleeding it away in some places to accommodate increased energy in others. This redistribution of warp activity allows for the re-emergence of the Desdaemona system.

It is this returning from the Warp that has allowed the Triumph to achieve its current form by returning the Praesidium Protectiva tot he Convent Prioris at last. The reunion will see the influx of detachments from all six Orders as bodyguards for their respective Cannoness Superia. This will also coincide with the arrival of Taddeus the Purifier's Crusade fleet, destined for the Blackstone Fortress.

In the meantime, however, a Marine Vessel enroute from Baal also destined for the Blackstone Fortress will make a brief stop-over in the recently emerged Desdaemona system as well; unbeknownst to the crew, a cargo of purestrain genestealers deposited during recent engagements with the tyranids have a plan to make planetfall and seed the system for tryanid conquest.

Finally, far beneath the notice of anyone, an anonymous citizen of Orison's Wake's downtrodden Imperial workers awakens into his psychic potential and befriends a charismatic musician/ drug dealer. Together, they sow the seeds of the Cult of the Carnal Light.

I've been building the campaign world and special rules and collecting the models for a year. The first few games are almost ready to get going.
I'm planning to gradually post the whole thing here: http://www.bolterandchainsword.com/forum/72-the-chronicle-of-saint-katherines-aegis/

I expect this campaign to unfold over a period of two years or more. So far, all of the Territory maps are up, as well as some of the faction pages and other details. I've actually done some modelling this weekend, which is the only thing holding me back. The whole thing begins with a special Space Hulk mission where purestrains attempt to make use of automated escape craft in order to make planetfall on Orisons Wake. The results of this game determine the size of the first infection cycle; it will be anywhere from 1-8 purestrains. Anyway, if you're curious, check out that subforum. I hope to make regualr updates.

I've not really given names to things, but my collection as a whole is themed around a grand inquisition alliance:

Spoiler:

In terms of head cannon, I kind of picture it as a Watch Fortress that has become an headquarters for inquisition forces in the sector, with strike teams from each of the military arms being deployed as inquisitors deem necessary.

Beyond this, I have some general imperial allies. A loyal-32 worth of guard that I have converted to be more of the faceless good variety; either serving as security on the fortress or narratively they're often holdouts on a planet waiting for reinforcements from the Fortress. Likewise I've got a Knight Lance that's been requisitioned and stored in the fortress when a situation demands a super heavy or 3.

Mostly though, its Heresy-911. A major stronghold ready to dispatch whatever forces are required to purge corruption from the sector no matter what form it takes.

I have a Tau sept that, rather than being front line troops, behaves as a police force for recently annexed worlds. That way the relatively outnumbered Tau forces can continue to push forward and maintain that much needed momentum for their expansions. I figured that would be a reasonable excuse for brightly colored Tau. An authority force would want to be seen and would forgo camouflage. Something that weaved in elements of modern warfare. Something that mixed the US' history in Vietnam, Korea and the middle east with a bit of a feeling like UN peacekeeping forces.

I also have a band of Orks from the Bad Moons clan. They call themselves 'Da Blingtoofs' and they all have gold capped teeth. They have developed a particular love for all things precious and are notorious for the aggressive campaigns of intensive looting. Always looking to expand their mountain of 'bling'. Many imperial shrine worlds have been ravage by this band of the bad moons. Think football hooligans mixed with a stereotyped rap culture.

My Drukhari army is an offshoot of the Kabal of the Obsidian Rose. Their former leader tried to stage a coup against his archon Aestra Khromys by gifting her four bed slaves, each of whom had been conditioned to try to murder her if she uttered one of several trigger phrases. She did utter one of the phrases, but unfortunately for the plotter, she survived the murder attempt thanks to her fighting skill. She then fed the rebellious lackey to a Talos pain engine; not for betraying her, but for the offense of using such inept assassins against her. She then exiled his followers from Commorragh, ordering them to bring back 400 perfect slaves to regain her favor (for nothing less than perfection is acceptable to the Kabal of the Obsidian Rose). Unlike other Drukhari who take as many captives as they can, my army is known for leading slave-taking raids that have only one target, such as a governor's daughter, a renowned artist, or a famous Space Marine hero. Any other slaves they take serve only as currency when dealing with other slavers who might happen to have one very valuable slave.

I'm currently starting to build a Sisters of Battle army, and given their bone-colored armor, I'll probably call them the Order of the Bone Altar or something like that. They will be desert-themed. One of my ideas is that they built their entire temple out of the bones of the vast animals that dwell in the desert, and that they maintain an ossuary with the bones of the Sisters who fall in battle. Their tests and rituals will probably involve some kind of desert survival ordeal.

Upon hearing the nature of his tarnished image Floki branded his pack as The Strifesons and proudly bears a banner he requested be made by his idol and the indirect scource of his struggles to rise in the eyes of the Wolf Lords the Jackalwolf - Lukas the Trickster.

Versteckt in den Schatten deines Geistes.

Started off as a few games where we had some character names we invented ourselves, and then stemmed into a series of full-blown Apocalypse campaigns and linked Dark Heresy games.

Over time I developed the Aquila Sector and a timeline for events and so on.

The main force that I've put the most into fluff are my Guard, who are the 444th Cadian Mechanised. They have attached Mordian artillery and Tallarn armoured companies. They've run ins with just about everything.

Another is my main Chaos Lord, Horatio Lethus, the fallen Ultramarine Captain who is now a Daemon Prince with a Wailing Doom fused to his hand (he can't get rid of it, no matter how much he wants to - and the forces of Ulthwe are constantly trying to get it back from him).

My own Ultramarines are led by 2nd Company Captain Casca Maine, and are out to bring Lethus down once and for all.

And I have a lot of Inquisitor characters that are part of the mix (Inquisitor Dennifus Zentor, Percival Yule, Ariana Masters, Kiera Jade, Demetrius Valentine, Paula Descartes, Quintus Dyne, Ashish Khallid, etc.).

212th Mantos Dragoons:

Mantos is an oceanic Hive World located at the border between Segmentum Pacificus and Segmentum Solar. No land mass exists on the surface of the world, but the world is dotted with over 500 Hive Cities reaching from the bottom of the global ocean to just above the cloud layer.

The ocean's surface is rich with Prometheum and rare minerals. The excessive mining of these has caused the entire ocean to become highly polluted and devoid of life (though some miners speak of giant creatures lurking in the dark).

While the ruling classes have access to cleaner water imported from off world, most civilians are forced to rely upon water filtered from the planets ocean. However, the rate of pollution and the toxicity of the water is too much for most filtration systems, causing a higher than average rate of mutation among the populace. The rate is high enough that the PDF engages in biannual purges of the lower sections of the hives, eliminating any that show even the slightest hint of mutation.

The Planetary Governor oversees the tithe to the Imperium, but cedes the overall management of the PDF and created regiments to the individual Administrators of each Hive City. As a result, forces from each Hive City vary wildly in terms of armament. Differing patterns of Flak Armor, Lasguns, and Leman Russ Tanks have been seen among the various regiment's raised from each Hive City, with several Hive Cities utilising different vehicles altogether and several more raising Infantry regiments exclusively. Training varies wildly as well, with several Hive Cities hiring Veteran Cadians and Kasrkin to train their forces, and others giving only the most basic of training regimen.

Recently, several regiments of the Mantos Dragoons were to be deployed in Segmentum Obscurus to assist in putting down rebellions. However, the eruption of the Great Rift caused many vessels carrying these regiments to be lost in the Warp, and the surviving ships to be stranded in the sector known as Elara's Veil. The surviving regiments have been merged into a single regiment taking the namesake of the largest: the 212th. This regiment joins the other trapped regiments, such as the 104th Catachan "Night Shanks" regiment, in being the bulwark for the Emperor's Spears chapter in holding off the encroaching forces of Chaos and the traitor warband known as The Pure.

Pasted from a similar tread a while ago:

The 402e Régiment Cadien Polyvalent is all around regiment located in the Ursus sector, south of Cadia. Apart from drawing it's coutless recruits, armour, missiles, aircrafts... from it's own furnaces, it is also charged with re conditioning "unadequate" soldiers and citizens, both physically and psycholigically. Since the reatments the victims undergo to make them fit and brainwashed are much borderline, the regiment was assigned his own sector and camouflaged with the label "Cadian".

After the regiment rebelled on the guiding of possessed psykers who made it through all security protocoles to have almsot 75% of the regiment turn their backs on their brothers, the Ursus system was engulfed into a civil war from which loyalists enventually emerged victorious, having kept their hands tightly gripped on the industrial complexes that gave them aircrafts and tanks to overwehlm the enemy's superior numbers. They were led by the current leader of the regiment, the "Camarade Commissaire" who's true name has been eclipsed by this titel. Today he only, and the Contremaîtres who he has personnally teached the art of "reconditionning" are able to carry out the regiment's secret mission.

The regiment wages war in nearby sectors that are deemed to be part of his "rayon de projection".

They are many more details but that's the big part of it.

Necrons: my dynasty used to be amonsgt the most loyal, providing it's leader all the supplies, and troops they ever demanded. However being at the spearhead of every move inevitably bled their forces dry and as their population became thinner and thinner, they started deploying to protect vital communication nods. When the war in the heaven was finally over, and the necrons turned their weapons against thir C'tan enslaver, the dysnasty was crippled by the fury of these deity: they had become a soft target, that one could eliminate with ease. Later on, they were also harassed by hateful eldars, so that in the end, when the dynasty entered its tumbs for hibernation, only a single world stood still, located not too far away from the Jericho reach in a region of space absolutly overlooked by most as calm and of little value.

Now they awaken, isolated and outnumbered, but as loyal as they ever be, their most characteristic trait, unquestionnable loyalty to the silent king and conquer only in the hope of refounding their empire, should they fade away in the colossal task. They're right now busy with setting their own coreworld free, after with they'll rush the next work and make it rip for annexion...

That's all!

A female tech priest interested in abominable intelligence defects to the Tau Empire to study AI without getting executed. She becomes a gue'vesa and makes kastellan/drone battlesuits including ta'unars on top of replacing her cybernetics with Tau cybernetics.

The imperium of man learns of her defection and hunts her down mercilessly. When they located the tau settlement she's currently residing in, they brought an army to annihilate it.

Every Tau on the planet was slain in the name of the emperor but before her fortified position was overcome, either she escapes or a group of ___ attack the imperium, kidnaps her, then retreats.

I haven't decided whether it's dark eldar or chaos that does this. If it's dark eldar she is an unwilling drugged up robot artificer building kastellan/drone tau battlesuits for gladiator arenas and to further commorragh's interests. If it's chaos then she gets possessed by a daemon and spills all of her knowledge to the dark mechanicum and works as an enslaved engineer. Or no one attacks the imperium, and she just was able to escape and now skulks around the sector hunting the imperium as vengeance.

In all 3 cases my Tau army is fully robotic and is the enemy of the imperium.

Having said that I actually don't have a full army set. But I plan to once i save up enough. First thing i'm gonna buy is ta'unar, then a broadside.

I like this one, your regiment sounds like a logistical nightmare. I could just imagine the various factions bartering and trading for the right materials whenever supplies are located. Maybe a little thievery and a thriving black market. Just a hodge podge of a mess.

My personal Guard that I made for a Kill Team league was modeled after S.W.A.T. They came from a frosty hive world, where the major threats weren't invasions, but local cults or rebellions springing up. Once they got enough information to act on, the local forces would call in a S.C.A.R. team (Special Crisis Armed Response team). In Kill Team, the Scions were the breaching team (shorter range, AP weaponry, better armor, better trained) and the normal guard were perimeter control (longer range weapons, lower armor). All painted up with arctic urban camo.

With the new Scion stuff in Psychic Awakening, I'm adapting it to 40K. Crack Shots for the "Infiltrator squads" that drop in, and Mobilized Infantry for the Breaching Teams. Think piling out of a Taurox Prime, kicking in the door, and storming into a ruin. Add in Bullgryn for Ballistic Shields (and Wall of Flesh strat) for going in first.

They don't have much play history, but looking to change that!
