Hi.
I just made a 10-man squad for Cityfight using Cadian upper bodies, Catachan legs, IG sniper SM scout heads, FW backpacks and Micro Art Studio bases.

The painting is it's early stages - and I would * really* appreciate feedback (comments/suggestions) regarding colour selection, modelling etc.

Wich colour should I pick for the weapons - suggestions ??

Serious ??
Thr red berets look quite okay to me I won't change them.
The weapon colour question is a good one. I for myself stay with black and boltgun metal detials.

I like them. I think they're almost stormtrooperesque--what doctorines are you going to give them?

I like the work you do. the color scheme is great, dark, and nicely highlighted. The bases add plenty of goodness to the models.

>Cottonballs for smoke. Easier than skinnin' yer cat.

My cat is a mongrel (half persian) and has *a lot* of excess hair in summer. The fur is white-grey-black and I really belive it will make excellent "instant smoke trail".
And no, I have no plans to skin her - I'll just use a comb.

Yeah use that hair to cover the stick supporting the missile, maybe even some of the missile itself, and I'm not so sure about that guy near the launcher, I've seen real missile launchers fired, they have ALOT of back blast.

Darkchild, as you being the "Dakka SpecOps guy", have you got any suggestions for my IG Scouts ?
I.e. regarding gear, painting/colours, poses, bases etc. ???

Well i'm flattered you think of me like that, i'll try my best. Looking at my minis, i tend to add kneepads, extra pouches (especially strapped to the legs), though your minis look cool as is.
Your colour scheme, poses and general equipment are very good, although i would suggest adding a bipod to your sniper rifle and maybe adding some snazzy bits to your lasguns, I'm thinking flashlights (no pun intended) foregrips, dot sites etc to make them stand out from the normal troopers. One other thing i have just recently started doing is modelling untucked trouser legs on a couple of my guys as special forces tend to not bother blousing their trouser legs.

Really cool looking bunch!

I'm going to comment on the painting once we see better pics

BTW- I am REALLY looking forward to what you come up with using the new Terrain kits!!

>extra pouches (especially strapped to the legs)

Will definitely do that.
Tactical vests would look cool - but I really like the Cadian body armour...

>kneepads

Darkchild: Looking at your SpecOp guys and realising you used Catachan legs as well I am now really tempted to add "Darkchild-kneepads" (as they looked really good on your guys).
Getting the trousers look right around the knees might be tough though (gotta make it look as the kneepads are strapped around the knees and not just sewn to the trowsers "handyman style").

>adding a bipod to your sniper rifle

OK.

>and maybe adding some snazzy bits to your lasguns

Will try to find suitable microbitz.

>I'm going to comment on the painting once we see better pics

Will post better pics when the paint job is better ;-)

>I am REALLY looking forward to what you come up with using the new Terrain kits!!

I am about to finish a terrain board with a fortified desert pass that has been partly destroyed by Tyranid spore chimneys. Lots of FW and Cityfight terrain. Will post pics when ready.

Update:
- Shortened the missile.
- Made "cat fur missile smoke trail".
- Painted weapons in a dark olive drab. Missile launcher looks ace, the other guns acceptable (I don't like solid black areas (not even the cool Reaper Master Adamantium Black) on my minis, as this has an "unfinished look")
- Painted the nightvision gear in a darkish olive drab-grey.
- Repainted the berets "British S.A.S. khaki" (actually Reaper Master Light Olive highlighted to GW Bleached Bone). Didn't like the maroon berets (especially after I painted the nightvision lenses red).
- Highlighted the skin areas (might try doing Darkchild-gloves on some).
- Experimented with shoulder pad markings but didn't produce anything acceptable. Digits are boring, the white dragon idea looked cool but to much SM chapter symbol... Might settle for a more abstract design (or camou pattern). Ideas anyone ???

Check into historical unit patches. These guys are spec-ops based right? Try a variation of the Delta Force symbol, but replace the delta with an eagle or something.

just a thought.

tau bitz actually look nice most of the time if trimmed and fit in the right spot.Get a few rifles(the long ones) and use the scope, barrel ends(the 2 studs and smaller length of the barrel itself) or even the stocks for some instant extra fiddly bitz.

Why not use the Cadian gates symbol(the one with the skull under a portal-like thing) with a little custom detail around/on it?

I had once converted a tau pulse carbine into a P90 style weapon for my Nec. gang (autogun rules). Maybe something like that? Or retractable stocks for the weapons (future idea as yours are pretty set I guess).

About the kneepads, the reason i didn't Gs straps for them is
A: I'm lazy.
B:  Look at these trousers!

The future of combat clothing for sure.

personally I don't like the red berets.... not because you painted them bad.... just from a logical standpoint. They're supposed to be scouts for city fight.... well... they happen to have a giant red target on their foreheads... which can't be a good thing... just ask the british how that worked for them. I'd change it to green
