It's almost certainly a fake. The Terminator box can't make enough terminators with the same loadout to go the Blightlord route.
Or reference was convoluted datasheet with only options that come in box and any configuration not in box(like 5 with chainaxe) is illegal.

Literally every unit like this has a default loadout, like plague swords or axes on the Blightlords. The only weapon with two in the terminator box is the power fists, and you certainly can't outfit the whole unit with them. You'd have to specify an exact loadout for the entire squad.
Which they likely could do. More likely than them being exception to 9th ed style which are exceedingly rare.
Or above style. Def not expecting everybody having same combi weapon if box doesn't come with 5 same combi weapons.

Leo_the_Rat wrote: For all the wailing about the loadout for Termies- When I bought my box it came with enough Lightning Claws that each of mine could have 2 of them. Granted I only had 1 heavy weapon (a hvy flamer) but that's what I wanted anyway. How did I do this? I bought the Cataphract box. As far as CSM go there are only Terminators so the various armor types are style choices and nothing else. Also, since Catapharact armor was around during the 30K wars it's thematic to have some in your army if you play with that back story.
Yeah. You bought 2nd box. Which means in GW's current design parameters odds are very, very, very good you won't be able to field 5 terminators with all lightning claws as that won't be option as it's not in the box
Ask DG how fun it was when their loadouts were invalidated because box didn't come enough without buying more boxes.

I'm merely pointing out that there are options out there and GW should consider that there are other Terminator Box sets out there that are applicable to CSM. This is in contrast to how many box sets there are of Plague Marine Terminators (1). Do I believe that they did consider that? No, but they should have.
Options to get more isn't exactly much help if GW prevents the loadouts...
In case you have been living under the rock during 9th ed GW has been moving more and more what's in box is what's legal. Not every unit but a lot. Box has only 2 pairs of lightning claws for 5 models? 2 models can field pair of lightning claws. Not 3. Not 4. Def not 5.

With the models all pictured together, its a pretty underwhelming box.
Yeah, strange. At least we'll see if those rumours are complete bull when we'll have the data sheets for the new Chosen.
Not really depending on when csm book coming out. Gw has been known to put updated datasheet in box and redo it again right away with new book shortly after.
Tyran wrote: On the other hand, it seems that Tyranids will be a modest codex + new model(s) release, while CSM seem a larger release with updates to existing kits.
GW rarely does larger releases back to back, and Eldar will be a quite large release.
Yep that's the flipside.
Eldar and CSM if both are huge model updates back to back would eat into each other sales which is bad for GW. It would also(depending on exact timings) load up one financial quarter so that one quarter gets huge sale spike and then next unless they put up lots of big stuff there as well then would result in big slump. Investors don't like spikes up and down. Steady growth is what they want to see.
So not being back to back at least gives better hope for good miniature releases for them as well. For CSM I'm hoping good luck for happy release! You deserve it

ArcaneHorror wrote: I've been thinking about the rumored rules for Chosen, and if they're true, that would be a converter's dream. I've got a bunch of cool AOS Chaos weapons lying around, and I could just slap them on without having to deal with any confusion or clashing rules. I was also considering making some Nurgle Chosen from Putrid Blightkings, complete with the rotten, arcane weapons that they come with, and again, these rules would leave me completely free to do so.
That would also "solve" the problem of lightning claws doing different things depending on whether they are modelled on a warp talon or a terminator/chosen.
People wanted bespoken rules, GW gave them bespoken rules.
Sasori wrote: I was hoping the Venomcrawler would be a bit more beefy... Wonder if you can take them in squads now. Otherwise that seems pretty weak.
Going from 10 wounds to 9 is actually a pretty good move, as it won't degrade anymore. Worked out well for Contemptors. Though I do find it annoying that WS2 was just TOO GOOD for our Relic Dreadnoughts, but ok for the Venomcrawler, apparently.
Sure, that's fine if it was going to stay at 10w, but most Vehicles have been going up in wounds, not down. I was sort of expecting it something like 12 or more Wounds.
Eh, I think you're partially correct. If my math is right, and so are the rumours for what the various Marks and Icons do, then a properly Marked + Icon unit of "Legionaries" will be able to beat intercessors in a fistfight. So they'll probably be cheaper base (possibly even cheaper than TACs), but once you start spending points on "extras" they'll be better than loyalists. So you can go "cheaper but worse", or "more expensive, but better". Sounds.... familiar.
Eh so you are better than objective campers. Whoo. How about actual threat? Basic marines are there to be obsec bodies on objective you trade for vp's. Not for killing.
JNAProductions wrote: They're either Characters (and so benefit from LoS), not Characters but have a rule that lets them use LoS or otherwise stay safe, or they're just dead.
Given GW's track record with CSM, I'm guessing option 1 or 3.
I'd wager 3 tbh, I'd hope they're cheap enough to not really matter though. Does make you wonder if they can use rhinos however.
Doubtful. Death Guard Rhinos can only carry BUBONIC ASTARTES units and Thousand Sons Rhinos can only carry ARCANA ASTARTES units, which are both all Marines. Apparently the mortals are expected to walk.
With cultists, renegade guard (maybe) and mutants ontop of a cultist HQ, it'll be really hard to justify treating all those units like they do in the other books though.
Edit: unless we get chimera thrown in.
Since when has gw ever tried to justify whatever ridiculous that they decide to saddle CSM with?
I dunno, I imagine they want to sell their new units but if they're stuck as 1 per heretic astartes and get no support in any manner then they'll beat doa and they won't want half the new kits to be dead weight.
Yes, they'll want to sell the new kits, but how many times have they put out a shiny new kit and then end up giving it lackluster rules? New models doesn't equal good rules, you know that just as well as I do. CSM Cultists will have the same restriction as Death Guard and Thousand Sons Cultists. It's a pattern.
Oh I know, but given we're about to have 4 "cultist" units in theory, that's not really going to work or make sense in the context of the army. They need to handle them differently then roll the same out to DG/Tsons maybe next time round.
Could be kroot style. For every marine unit 1 of each cultist units.
The Red Hobbit wrote: It could be they balanced the CSM codex against the early 9e codex (specifically Marines) because they planned on it releasing earlier but that plan was delayed due to some behind the scenes reason.
Yeah but according to rumours the book seems to be in playtesting now?
Eh no. If it was playtesting now it would be late 2022/early 2023 release. We know it's coming soon.
There wouldn't be time for physical products to come if it was playtesting now...
Leadtimes. Leadtimes. Leadtimes. These things are done well ahead.
Gadzilla666 wrote: Probably. Which makes me wonder: will our fw units keep Hateful Assault? Or lose it and gain an additional attack?
CSMs now have (or rather will have) 3 attacks now. Doesn't that pretty much mean that Hateful Assault is gone?
Yes, that's what it looks like. But I was wondering if it would stay for our fw units or if it would be removed and replaced with an additional attack.

Yes, according to Clockworkchris' source, the leaks are coming from early playtest rules, as I keep trying to remind everyone.
So they playtested book without something big like this? Oh crap. Sounds bad.
And again this would mean gw has been sitting with this rule waiting around a year. No rush to balance things around with balance update lying around for a year...

Leo_the_Rat wrote: It also appears that there is only 1 mode of firing a plasma pistol. If this is the case there is no chance of overload damage. Or am I reading that chart incorrectly?
No that's just the simplified no special rule stats these assembly instructions have. No dual profiles as no rule saying you only use one at a time.
Gadzilla666 wrote: Because it annoys me, because it's more of the "Black Legion uber alles" we've always gotten. But he'll probably get it, and I've admitted as much. Sorry to have ruffled so many Black Legion feathers.
You mean the Legion that is the Legion of the Long War? The Legion that is the most organised and powerful? The Legion at whose head stands the warrior anointed by the Pantheon and forced the Daemon Primarchs themselves to bend the knee in subservience to him? The Legion that for at least twenty years of background has been at the forefront of the Long War, taking the fight to the Imperium instead of hiding like the Night Lords? You do know that there are entire Chaos Cults that worship Abaddon as a god right?
Yes, overall the forces of Chaos aren't unified like the Imperium. But Abaddon still commands a huge force of unified Legions and Warbands because once again he is the Warmaster.
Yes, but he doesn't command all of them. That's why he couldn't hold his forces together after the Fall of Cadia. Many of the warbands were done with him after they got what they wanted, and left. If he truly commanded them, then he could have held them together, but he couldn't, because he only had their commitment as long as it benefited them. Once he comes up with another grand scheme, he may get it again, but only if it suits them, not him.
Yea. And Guillimann doesn't have complete control of Imperium forces either.
So by your logic Guillimann shouldn't have warmaster rule either.
Or you are 2 faced and claim what suits your personal power dreams.
Abbadon has fluff wise every right to work with other forces because THAT'S WHAT HE DOES. He doesn't need to have 100% control. If 90% does and 10% doesn't that means he shouldn't be allowed to be used with the majority? Lol.
It's not like you even have to use him if in your headcanon he doesn't work them.
But we know what this is about in reality. Not fluff/what's appropriate but your power gaming.

Well seeing named characters tend to have keyword locked for certain sub faction which prevents units from getting free rules...it kind has of gone away.

Well, yeah but we're currently riding the Knights hype train, so that kills at least a couple weeks, and they generally don't have big releases in December. So that is really more like 5 months.
I bet Horus Heresy gets a full 6 weeks of attention at least.
Well there's 9 aos books still to come this year. 3 codex would feel weird with that.
ArcaneHorror wrote: It was mentioned earlier that Haarken Worldclaimer might be the only playable jump lord in the new codex. I honestly would not be that upset if it was made into the new official jump Lord model, with the rules to be able to convert on different weapons. I'm not sure if too many fans are that attached to the actual character himself for anyone to be to upset at his loss in the rules.
ClockworkZion wrote: Can we go back to arguing about Chaos Marine rumors? Arguing about if 9th edition is "complete" or not seems like it's own thread topic.
Ah, good point, I apologize.
Gosh darn it, we're derailed by a troll again.
So, what do y'all think about 10th edition potentially being Space Marines vs. Chaos Marines this time around?
Or perhaps there being a Red Corsairs or Renegade Warbands Supplement for Chaos Marines that we haven't seen yet that could be where Huron Blackheart and Bikers are updated?
Doubt csm now and csm in starter next year. Csm ain't loyalist marines.
We i could believe if gw hadn't already mentioned we coming which means odds are they come this year.
drbored wrote: Also, looks like youtubers have begun releasing reviews of the Horus Heresy box set.
Usually this happens about a week before preorder. Could be a little earlier, but my thinking is that if we aren't for preorder this coming Saturday, then it's going to be after 30k comes out.
The wait continues.
Usually ndk's stop on day preorders start so this is unusully early.
RazakelXIII wrote: So with HH starting a two-week preorder period starting on the 4th, does that preclude any major, potentially spiky releases going up for preorder on the 11th? Been out of the loop for a while and I'm not sure how things are done these days.

Yes. No CSM codex in between. 18.6 is earliest preorder for it or anything else of note(aos ghb22, sylvaneth&skaven battletomes for myself that I'm waiting).
