Tis the season for building projects and I thought it would be neat to have a bit of a closer theme than just "build anything and everything."

having had a long love of the Epic scale for years (heck its what got me into wargaming back in the Titan Legions days) and seeing Mad Doc building up his legion I thought it would be cool to have a little bit of a building challenge for the year. A chance to build legions, race each other, keep pace, challenge and grow (tiny) huge armies!


So I put it to you Dakka - anyone can take part; step up and declare yourself and lets see if we can turn money into sprue and sprue into models to wage epic mass warfare!

Reckon, if I maintain a steady pace? I’ll be done by the end of next week. Which is convenient, as by then I’ll know if the 96 bases of Stuff across my 4 boxes of Astartes Infantry are acceptable for the One Million Miniatures thing.

Not that I don’t think LI would count (the article already confirmed as much). Just I’ve got them on-hand, still in shrink wrap.

Those I know I can, start to finish, fart out a whole box in an evening. And once done? Barring terrain that’ll be me back to a fully painted Epic Scale collection.

Well last year I completed by Blood Angels Legion (well I'll be going back and adding some Fellblades etc at some point, but not for a while), so this year I've got allied Auxilia and Mechanicum to do.

Working on House Taranis knights first, so thinking then probably Mechanicum will be the first proper new Legions project for 2026 - although I'm starting to wonder if I have some kind of painting masochism given that will be yet another red army to paint (and being red/green colour blind)...

I do have a bunch of Auxilia on sprues still to do, I know they will be Saturnyne Rams but haven't worked out how I want to paint them so thats why they're bottom of the queue for now.

I have 5k of Dark Mech to paint this year and have been very slowly cranking it out. And 7.5k of TS. And 1.5k of SAX... and 3k of Eldar for EA.
I have a feeling I will not get this done.

Working on a pair of Warhounds currently.

Have you tried lowering your standards?

Last year I got my armoured battalion to a playable state, even if not completely finished, though most of the time I was painting BFG ships. The monthly painting competitions were great for keeping pace.



But hey, if there's a challenge for Epic here this year and I'll mostly be playing it anyway, that sounds like a perfect excuse to finish more little dudes. Especially when my opponents so desperately want to see more infantry instead of pure walls of treaded steel facing them, that they've graciously printed me a whole bunch of Chimeras, it would be rather rude not to...

I like the inclusion of camouflage on the artillery! Something the original Epic 40K metal models had all over gun barrels and such which we never really saw again once they went to 40K scale updates and then back to modern models which are very clean built.

Gauze and superglue, there are rolled camo nets on the battle tanks' sides as well. Though my own military stint was in communications rather than dealing with tanks, all of our grunts go through the same ruckus of learning to camo everything when the action stops or get wrecked in short order Thus everybody gets their share of stowage and netting in this force, which represents the mobile fist of a planetary defence force in our group's longer campaign.

But seriously speaking, yeah, there's three Basilisk batteries, two field gun batteries and two Deathstrikes in that pic alone, so it's not like there wouldn't be any.

I'd love to participate but LI is playing thrid fiddle in my Hobby projects ATM, if even that. Priority being on my 28mil IXth, as always, followed by this latest "craze de jour" of building a RT RoC Tzeentch warband. And with my current state of affairs, where I dont even haz proper hobby space, there isnt much hope for me to reach the LI stuff anytime soon..

Don’t be shy with pics of your collection, however WIP it might be.

Epic is the most glorious scale visually.

I’ll get a group pic of my whole collection (minus buildings, which is up in the attic right now) in due course.

I'm still trying to find it - its in one of the many boxes full of packing peanuts! Should have a big sort out tomorrow as some shelving units are arriving and thus I'll be breaking out a whole slew of boxes to get books up and that should unearth some stuff that's been hiding up for the last month!

I have a bit less than a dozen titans waiting for me to free them of their sprues.

The Malcadors are not finished as I have to pack them with greenstuff and fiddle with the turrets to magnetize them so their turrets are just sitting on top right now.

got a few more Russ to build and the infantry to put together. I've also four Warhounds to build and magnetize as well!

Now if I can just convince the local council that instead of taking council tax from me they should be paying me to support economic growth of the UK's major plastic export with increased domestic sales.

Will be a relaxed narrative-driven day, with all proceeds going to the Brain Cancer Trust, in memory of WD editor and Warlord Games co-founder Paul Sawyer. There will also be a prize raffle available with some oldhammer & other prizes available.

The first event last year was good fun, would be great to see some more of Team Dakka there on the day!

Got some 60 little bawkses greebled enough to roll onto the painting station. Chimeras, Manticores, Hydras, Wyverns (Griffons) and the like to expand my Guard into the realm of some non-4+ RA steel for a change

Nice bunch of tanks you've got there too, fresh out of their factories and straight into parade formation.

I swear nothing looks as good as a fully painted Epic Scale army. Even if it’s a pretty basic job like wot I done. They just look amazing when all assembled.
