Subject: WSYWIG Tyranid Biomorphs

Just wondering how much of a stickler most people are concerning the actual modeling of biomorphs onto Tyranid creatures. I personally don't add biomorphs because I think they take away from the look of the models, and I like to change my broods from game to game, +1 I one game, maybe +1 Str another. I'm talking about the little biomorphs like Adrenal Glands and Toxin Sacs. I obviously model big changes like wings, acid maws etc. I normally only play against my personal friends but we are looking into gaming at a local store and I am wondering if people would have a problem with this. Thanks. P.S. I really butchered WYSIWYG in my subject line, wow.

I'd ask the guys at the store. I'd say most reasonable people wouldn't have a problem with the little stuff. But then again, a**holes are abundant in this world...
The guys at the store would know best though.

The keys for me are : 1. Informing your opponent. Let me know what I am facing and what these things can do. 2. Consistency. Make sure that if you are using "proxy" biomorphs for some models that they are consistent.

I think as long as all models of one type have the *same* biomorphs it should be fine.
You'd get into problems if you had 3 broods of Genestealers, all modeled the same, and then pointed at one and said 'that brood has extended carapace, the others do not'. It would be much more acceptable to say 'all my genestealers have extended carapace, although I didn't model it (because shoulder pads are *so* 1987)'.
I'm certainly not gluing glands to my hormagaunts, nor am I putting shoulder pads on my stealers. I'll put toxin sacs on my Tyrants I suppose, since I'd never field one without it.

I concur. Consistancy is more important than strict WYSIWYG.

What See You What Is Get!!!!! Someone set us up the biomorph! Umm... yeah. I don't model them. I take issue with WYSIWYG in most cases because I change things from list to list all the time and don't always take the same upgrades, so I'm not going to model - say - toxin sacs on all my H-Gaunts if I'm not always going to take it. I gave Adrenalin Glands (that big spidery dome thing) to all my Spinegaunts because I thought it looked good, not because I want to take Adrenalin Glands on Spinegaunts. Something obvious, such as a Thunder Hammer on a Marine character when he's only got a Stormbolter, or a Guard Weapon team using 'Missile Launchers' pattern Lascannon, that stuff's annoying, but modelling Extra Armour, something I don't take in every game? I'm not going to model that. If I take extra armour then the tank is internally reinforced, and there is no visual indication to show it being tougher than any other tank. BYE
