Red Comet wrote:I just finished episode 5 of Gundam Unicorn. Great stuff especially when episode 4 was rather meh with all of the unnecessary whining.
I like episode 4 wayyyyyyy more, though 5 was still good. 4 had the best animated fight scene. I can't wait for next year when we get the next episode :p. You said you watched ZZ right? I just finished it, and absolutely hated it! Worst out of all the series. I kept hopping everybody but judua would die. An I actually liked the zeon guy with the rose the most
Episode 4 was meh because Banagher was spouting all of this crap to the Newtype girl as if she was innocent. She voluntarily massacred civilians on more than one occasion and they changed a huge battle scene and moved it to Torrington for essentially no reason. It was originally in Dakar which IMO is way more pivotal since Dakar is the capital of the Federation government. I can't wait for episodes 6 and 7 now.
That's the only problem with ZZ, it has obnoxious character. I'm not gonna lie I hated Mashimyre at the beginning of the show. By the end of the show he was one of my favorite characters. He got the best serious revamp of all of the annoying Neo Zeon idiots. Haman was still the coolest character in the whole show though.
Did you not like the earth arc for ZZ? I thought the whole colony drop thing was great even if unrealistic.
eh I liked the colony drop way more in seed and seed destiny b.c it actually killed people. An it was really just b.c I did not like the good guys. I hated mundo and the other junkers. Judua was bad ass, but the others were just whiny jerks who didnt deserve to pilot gundams. I like the fact it took place on earth though. You are right though, Haman was pretty cool and Masyimyre got better at the end. All the other Neo Zeon guys were super annoying and didnt have good character. Like usually I like the characters on both side, Both Fedi and Zeon. But in ZZ I hated both sides haha
An ya I guess it didnt make as much sense to move away from Dakar. But I just liked that whole fight a ton. The whole last charge of the Zeon remnants who had been waiting years for their chance to strike back!

But the colony drop in Destiny was never explored ever. It was one of the biggest balls they dropped because it happens and they essentially do nothing with it. You don't see any of the effects in the show. The only show which gives some depth to that event is in Stargazer in the first episode, but that's it. IMO the one in ZZ was far worse because you actually saw MS battling it out in the ruins of the colony. You didn't need to see dead people to understand just how devastating the colony drop was because it was all portrayed in the scenery. In SEED there was no drop. Earth had simply been neutralized by N-Jammers stopping the functionality of electronic power around the globe.
Yeah a lot of the characters were unlikable. I kind of liked Illia Pazom who was with Mashimyre at the end and Chara was whatever. I still don't get how Glemy went from a total noobie pilot to leader of a rebellion. XD
The one thing I don't get is if its UC 0099 (I think?) Its been about 20 years that these guys have been in hiding on earth. I found it a bit ridiculous that there are still Zeon remnants living on earth with working MS. Also did you notice the Grey Phantom from 0080 in the 4th Episode of Unicorn?
^right sorry I meant seed or seed destiny b.c I didn't remember which the colony dropped in lol But ya that is true that it was nicely done in ZZ. They even tell you in the show about how even though the physical damage isn't massive, the implication of it and everything is. I just wish they would have done more with it. Also I really liked Kamille. I wish we could see him or the guy from 0083 fight again. Do we every find out what happens to Illia Pazom? I don't remember her dying, but then again I didn't pay as much attention and tried to fast forward as much as possible through he last episodes.
An I was definitely shocked to see Zeon remnants of that magnitude still on Earth after all that time, but I could see it happening. If anything I liked it and thought it was cool to see their defiance and hatred stand for that long amount of time. I also did see the grey phantom, and was like WTF????? Why is it on Earth and being used by the Zeon? It didn't really stand out im my memory much anyways though. I only remember it from 0080 and nothing special about it, like its crew or anything
Though the "colony" drop near the end of Char's Counterattack was also sort of cool. I know it wasn't actually a colony, but just seeing all of them know it will screw up the world and burn out their suits entirely to try and stop the thing; being burnt up in re-entry. Right after they had just been trying to kill each other as well, even the ones that wanted it dropped.
Was kind of dumb how it actually was stopped though.
Spoiler:
Amuro did stay "dead" though didn't he? Seemed like a decent way to go out finally.

I was really really dissapointed with the ending for Char's Counterattack, and the whole last part in general. Enemies were killed off quickly and not in deserving ways. But ya after that moment when Amuro and Char disappear they are labeled as MIA and don't reappear in Unicorn, at least not yet. To much time has passed for them to be alive in F91 or Victory gundam. I agree it was dumb how they stopped it lol

The only other mention of Illia from that point on is in some random Manga or novel where is part of Char's Neo Zeon. IIRC she's a commander for some special ops type unit. Don't quote me on that since I barely remember this fact.
Yeah there is no explanation why the Gray Phantom crashed on earth and the Federation just left it there to rot. It makes no logical sense since its a Warship with plenty of military secrets and what not. Unfortunately that ship did nothing except for what it did in 0080. I don't think it re appears even in 0083, but I could be wrong.

Spoiler:
I'm pretty sure Amuro is dead. Its never been confirmed or denied and IMO it should be left a mystery. Bright in Unicorn has a picture of Amuro in his office and he "talks" to him a couple of times briefly when he looks at the photo. Its safe to assume he's dead.
Makarov wrote:I'm thinking of watching Mobile Fighter G Gundam, is it recommendable?
I'd say HELL YES! But a lot of people dislike it because it doesn't seem like Gundam at first since it isn't a war, but it has so many of the inlaid Gundam themes that to deny that it is Gundam is silly IMO. Its definitely Gundam at its core.
A lot of people hate it because the Gundams are mostly hideous (except for the main Gundams IMO) and the show lends itself to be a Kung Fu type movie, but in a TV show format. The thing is that if you love super robots or just have a passing interest its good and it has a great plot. I don't see why so many people dislike the show when its one of the best AU shows from Gundam. I'd tell you to go out and watch it, but don't feel bad if you feel like the first 5 episodes drag on too much. They are sort of repetitive, because its introducing the other 4 Gundam pilots from the Gundam team. Once you get to the Shinjuku arc the show goes wild and outright awesome.

^ I dont like to think amuro is dead :( he is the original pilot! That's also why I never ever follow the manga and its story.
But i would also recommend G fighter! It is not my favorite but is really good. It is like SD gundam in that it is unique from all the other gundams. An it is different from SD in that it does not suck :p
Just got through watching Cyber City Oedo 808 and Doomed Megalopolis again after many years. Just awesome, they really dont make em like that any more.
Cyber City is just as cheesy as I remember, with swearing taking the place of every second word in a sentence. And mono whips! makes we want to play Shadowrun.
And what can you say about Doomed Megalopolis. I have always maintained it is the finest piece of Anime Japan has ever produced, and on watching it again I agree with my self Great story playing on Japans fears of colossal disasters, demonic Chinese blokes who control black goo and women vomiting phallic worm beasts

Angel Cop. I used to have the VHS dub. Too bad about it never really getting subbed. (spoiler-ed for obvious reasons)
Spoiler:
That is all.

Fate is in heaven, armor is on the chest, accomplishment is in the feet. - Nagao Kagetora
Alright, the mail finally delivered Dawn of the Seeker and I got around to watch it.
As expected, there were some crazy stunts in there, but fortunately they aren't as numerous, nigh-universally limited to the protagonist, and lastly both Dragon Age computer games had similar stuff already. I enjoyed the story well enough, even though it once again made the templars look bad. The swordplay was pretty well done. I maintain that I'd rather have a drawn anime, but the CGI was not as bad as I had initially feared from the first previews, and I got used to it fairly quickly.
In terms of background information, I learned a few new things! Apparently, the Chantry clergy of Thedas has regional colour codes - Ferelden is orange, Kirkwall is red, Orlais is purple, ... Also, I now understand a little better why the templars were cracking down on the mages at the start of "Asunder".
What I liked in particular was the little snippet of lore at the beginning of the movie. Not only was this told and shown in the style of the computer games, it also explained better the relationship between mages and templars, clearly indicating that it has gradually transformed and degraded over the course of decades, if not centuries.
The final scene with Cassandra receiving that book from the Divine was also a very nice connection to her scenes in Dragon Age 2, furthermore hinting at new challenges and new tasks for her as well as the entirety of Thedas to overcome. Overall I was pleased with my purchase and would support a sequel - and/or Cassandra showing up in DA3, because she's awesome.
So, after having found a way to watch Netflix US, I discovered there actually is a 2nd Season of "Birdy the Mighty - Decode".
Highly recommendable. It is way darker than the 1st season, but with the same great character interaction and good plots. I've only started watching it and have maybe seen half of it so far, but it's good stuff. Part of the season plays in Birdy's memories as a child - a little sad when you see how she grew up ... and even more sad when you realize that these memories are sugarcoated by her own conscience and the reality was way worse. Discovering this character's troubled past really gave her a lot more depth, and gave an interesting glimpse on how things work on her own homeworld. Good combination of action, drama and humour.

The word is the second season had a drastically cut the budget in places. You can see the quality of the animation skip around considerably in some eps, so there may be truth to it. It was decent, but not as good as the original by Madhouse or the First Season.
Watched an anime I hadn't seen in a while to other day. Still lots of fun.

Found out there's a new Eureka Seven series, so I basically gaked my pants causes its basically Neon Genesis Evangelion except it doesn't suck. The new series AO, isn't the same kind of show, but its still pretty good. The episodes really make you wonder what the hell is going on and by episode 10, things really started getting intense. Waiting for 13 right now.
Yeah,it's getting good. I was starting to get bored with it, having decided it had nothing to do with the original and the episodes were going nowhere, then the ending of episode 12. Hot damn. I really wanna see episode 13 now!

So we've got episodes 13 and 14 out of the pipe now, and I'm liking it much better. The series started out really cool, but then I was starting to get bored of it as it seemed to be devolving into a monster of the week type format. Freaky Secret shows up, good guys fly in, blow it up, and a different one with different abilities shows up next week. 13 and 14 really start to make the cool and weird happen again, you learn some things, find out some answers, though of course get more questions.
Seems the Scub Coral is from the future, and is somehow coming back in time. Truth appears to be a super Secret of some form and really hates Eureka. Pink Haired Girl (i'm really bad with names) might be Ao's older sister? Really looking forward to more of this now.
Agreed Aduro. The series has really picked up and if we're to believe the ssecond opening sequence:
Spoiler:
We just might meet an older Renton down the road!
EDIT: One thing that's really bugging me at the moment since episodes 12 and 13 though: is Eureka dead? Did she get sent back to the future after the Tokyo burst or was she killed?

It was ok. If it wasn't for Harima, and the constant misunderstandings he got stuck in, I don't think I would have watched all 54 episodes. Definitely wouldn't have watched them all in one sitting had it not been for Harima.
Finished Haiyore! Nyaruko-san a while ago. Been watching Muv-Luv Alternative: Total Eclipse, pretty grimdark at the beginning, Dakka will probably like it.
