Got my goodies today.
Did not realize just how much stuff I got.
Good God.
There's so much stuff. So many pieces. So many knobs on feet I need to cut off since I don't want to drill holes into every single base. Figures are very characterful yet with the right paint could blend right in to my current collection.
A few gripes though.
The rulebook- I wish there had been more art. We've seen most of it already. The fact that they included the novel interspersed is all fine and dandy, but some new art would have been ace.
Also, and a far more grievous problem- no painting section! What kind of tabletop game doesn't have a show off the minis section? Shameful.
The bases are really recessed. Gotta fill them all with junk or the figures all have partial cover. On the other hand, these bases are perfect for those new base toppers CMON made with MicroArts.
Were we supposed to get dice included in our orders? I got a dice bag, but no dice. Wasn't sure on that one.

Art focus seems to be a big problem with a lot of start up games. Little of it or not the best of work.
They seem to want to focus the hobby aspect online. It's not a bad thing or a good thing (personally) just their direction.
Number of people on the KS said they were designed with base inserts in mind.
That is not a dice bag, that is a tear bag. Collect the hopes and dreams of your opponents as they roll down his/her cheek.

I got my Goritsi today! My initial impressions are very positive. I put a couple together this evening. The material is a major step up over Sedition Wars and Mantic's offerings in the medium. It is a little bit more rubbery than the other PVC I own, cleans up very fast, and the models have very few moldlines. The faces on most of the human sized miniatures are very nice and comparable in detail to Perry heads (although some features likes lips are a bit finer). I found that I could even file off some of the mold lines with my regular hobby files. There is some warping that prevents some of the parts from fitting correctly (some Wolfen heads), but a couple seconds in front of a hair dryer and the material becomes very malleable and you can get rid of most of the warping. Some models come with ABS weapons, while some of them come with weapons from a harder mix of PVC similar to the sedition wars stuff. It seems that just the bigger monsters have a little bit of flex to the material, it is almost like 80% old sedition wars PVC mixed with 20% reaper bones and better detail than both. There are a few places I noticed on a few models where the detail looks a little bit soft, but overall, these are excellent for the price and a dramatic improvement over my previous experiences with PVC.
The Skorza Alpha is a work of art, and my favorite model of the bunch by far.
Let me know if anybody wants any pictures, and I will see what I can do.

I was expecting the shark men to be a bit bigger. They're not much bigger than the humans, and smaller than a Trollblood, who sits on a similar size base.
Fel Hammers are a tad bit bigger than the sharks, but are still a good head shorter than a Mantic ogre.
Maybe I'm just spoiled/ conditioned by Mierce's Darklands stuff that I assume everything is huge?
Loving my ashmen though. Those guys are going to get a lot of mileage in my home.
Really gives me hope for PVC figures going forward. There's a pretty discernible difference between these guys and a lot of previous restic efforts.

Well here are my initial reactions after playing with them for a few hours
overall positive, not blown away by them but that was obvious considering price point and material. These were not intended over ever advertised to be on the same plateau as say Arena Rex, Infinity or Dark Lands.
The artistic style does benefit from the material, it's hard say with improvements if the material can be used in other artistic art forms such as an Infinity style, 40k, etc. The exaggerated cartoon-ish (confrontation style) seem to work well.
There are mold lines present, even if you can't see them, they are there and more noticeable after you prime them. They are just no where near the roast beef mold lines Sedition Wars had.
Easier to clean than sedition wars... bit more than Relic Knights but not as easy as resin, metal or HIPs.
Detail as I stated is pretty much tabletop presentable, when you factor in sculpt quality and material they are better than a lot of other miniatures out there that look like they are from the 80s but would not compare them to Infinity. Comparing them to the resin, the body of the miniatures kept about 85 percent of the crispness (I probably made the number up). The only place(s) that excessive detail was loss is in the weapons made of ABS and very fine detail like teeth and very small crevasses. More than likely a concern for a painter than it would be to purely a gamer. Mostly.
Pieces are pretty much lie puzzles, slide through with ease, only a few did fit very well, should be a non-issue to anyone who has ever picked up a miniature.
Some pieces came warped, annoying but easy with with heat. An FYI to anyone, don't use boiling water to fix this type of plastic. The plastic tends to peel a bit like a sunburn when you do.
Bases are deep dishes (mmmmm Chicago deep dish pizza) I can see it being annoying for some but great for various scenic ideas, especially with Squid people.
The miniatures will take sometime to prep, whether you are a veteran or not, these will take longer than a space marine or Infinity model unless you have a carefree attitude on mold lines, I do not. I'm obsessive to an unhealthy degree.
I'm not disappointed by this kickstarter (like sedition wars) nor am I excited like I was with Arena Rex or Zombicide (although I treat Zombicide as a board game and not a hobby game).
So final grade and where do I stand with the material?
Miniatures aspect I would give it a C+
Factor in theme, presentation and what not B or B+ If you are looking for something different with a bucket of miniatures this may be fore you, have yet to play a game so I can't grade it at that end. CMON did a great job with Dark Age, I would assume they would do a great job with this as well.
It is no secret that I hate PVC, I accidentally coined the term "restic knights" (or didn't I?). I never felt PVC produced quality that bad in terms of maintaining features of the original sculpt. Sedition Wars was pretty solid in doing that minus the shrinkage on some large miniatures, capture quality on the WoK minis seem to be an improvement over those as well. The Issue has always been cleanup time.
If WoK only needed 5 to 10 miniatures to play I would get on these right away. But seeing how my hobby time has shrunk considerably, I don't see these minis getting any painting time or table time anytime soon.
CMON obviously wanted and envisioned a mass fantasy game with this, and that's fine by me, not every game can be Infinity or Malifaux sized. And think this game will have lots of lovely photos of battle reports of pig people clashing with squid people.
Would I back another kickstarter with this material sold as a "hobby game"
hold it
hold it
This may shock you
Yeah, I probably would, depending on the theme of the game and number of miniatures it takes to play the game. If CMON came out with a new IP that required 40k like numbers no, but the size of Infinity or malifaux I would. Considering the price and tabletop presentable quality miniatures I would definitely consider KSing a game using this material.

Well, an "intro" battle according to the rules consists of a maximum of 16 figures per side- 2 leaders, 12 grunts, 2 specialists.
With the trade up rule, you swap out two rank 1 figures for a rank 2, you could have a battle with around a half dozen on each side. Easily done with a starter.
Hell, their skirmish level battle looks possible without any extra additions.
I'd try to get a game in this weekend, but silly CMON didn't bother supplying us with any dice...
I don't have enough d10s at the moment to play this properly. Going to have to go stock up. Basing material too.

Got my pledge, ended up w the Hadross and Goritsi sets. I'm actually pretty impressed. The detail I feel is quite good. Good improvement over Sedition Wars and Relic Knights IMO.
M<y only beef is with the Goritsi bases I'd ordered. I pledged for them as the KS pic indicated they were tomb bases with gravestones, candelabras, etc. What I got was some crappy dirt base, which I can make myself with no effort. Did they announce a change? Either way, I want either my bases or to be sent a decent replacement from another faction's line. >

can we get some photos ? (nobody's shown any base inserts that I've seen)
Since I've ordered them too I shall be asking for a refund if they are not spooky graveyard stuff, as you say plain dirt is super easy to do yourself

Are you saying that the Goritsi bases are NOT modified as said during the campaign?
That is, that they are are still cluttered/overly busy/hard to put an actual miniature on?

I started painting up my Nasier guys (I put a few pics up in my gallery), and I'm flummoxed as to how I'm going to base them.
I think a trip to the hobby shop is in order today. Need some dice anyways, since CMON didn't bother giving us any in our dice/ opponents' tears bag. Thank goodness I'm done with work by lunch!
If nobody beats me to it, I'll try photographing one of those deep dish pizza bases when I get home.

I was under the impressison the bits were separate pieces, so you could put them however you wanted, making it easier to pose minis on them. I wasn't aware of a change - did they announce this in comments? At minimum we should have gotten something like the micro art graveyard bases. What I got was just a dirt base. I'll post pictures tonight.

Inserts were extra, yes.
If you bought them, you were supposed to receive enough to fill up your entire KS faction's bases (minus any extra expansion boxes).

Oh FFS. That's specifically why I pledged for those. Looks like I'll be asking for a refund as well. I'll also be asking why they charged me $80 shipping if it's coming from an AU hub as well.

there's a comment about the bases
CoolMiniOrNot about 1 hour ago
Hey guys, Mr. Black here, and I noticed the comments on the Goritsi Bases.
So we tried to make sure everyone saw this during the campaign- The pictures of the bases shown were not guaranteed to be the final bases that people received. We noted quite a few times that it would be reliant on their ability to be cast as a single piece mold (since, at that time, we were venturing into that process before we moved onto the full run with the Micro Art Kickstarter)
The Goritsi bases specifically were not able to be cast in a single piece, more so, the original Groundwerks ones they are based off of didn't go very well with the Gortisi miniatures (the dynamic poses of the Goritsi combined with the smaller area provided by the Graveyard bases just didnt fit well together- too little space on the actual base) so they had to be changed.
If, however, you missed the comments about this throughout the campaign (understandable, as we're near 9000 comments) and are super unhappy with the Goritsi bases as they were provided then please contact us at support@cmon.com and we'll see about working something out for you.

The lesson there is don't put gak like that in the comments. Or if you do, make sure it goes in an update as well so people can change their orders.

I do remember them saying they weren't locked into what we were seeing. That said yeah, should have been in an update. But if they make good on it then it's still one of the smoothest kickstarters I've been involved in.
Between Titan-Forge, the debacle that was second wave Sedition Wars, the capacitors for the mini-leviathans that said they were packed but weren't with Dream-Forge, the Tablescape display not being a movable with models on it, Kingdom Death still not being finished, and I could go on. Most work out fairly well in the end (Deadzone went smooth because I only did terrain) and Zombicide actually showed up early for the game itself so I don't mind but this one is looking like a winner in comparison.
Granted, I didn't order any inserts no matter how tempted.

Naturally everything is subject to some slight change from concept art, etc. Still, there's a huge difference between what was shown and the "dirt" that people are describing as the sort of stuff that most of us here on Dakka could knock up in 2 minutes with some sand and PVA. I bought them specifically based on the concept art to use as scenery elements/scenic markers/objective markers/etc for my wife's undead army, so what I'm hearing is too far removed for me to be happy with the final result.
