Wow. First of all, people not believing rape victims isn't new. In fact, as terrible as the current levels of disbelief of rape victims are, things are getting better (which should tell you how bad things used to be).
Second up, the idea that talking about cultural values that might encourage and permit rape somehow dilutes its meaning and impact is bonkers. If just talking about rape somehow stopped it being less of a taboo thing to do, then 10 million kids on Call of Duty talking about raping each other would have done that long ago, as Ensis Ferrae points out. Honestly, the idea that people could look to talk about how, for instance, the combination of celebrating sexual conquest and villifying girls who put themselves in vulnerable situations can lead to rape is just a basic, obvious conversation to have. The idea that people might shout that down as being part of some PC left something or other goes to show how nasty and unthinking this culture war nonsense has gotten.
“We may observe that the government in a civilized country is much more expensive than in a barbarous one; and when we say that one government is more expensive than another, it is the same as if we said that that one country is farther advanced in improvement than another. To say that the government is expensive and the people not oppressed is to say that the people are rich.”

Of course you do. No surprise here. Everything is their fault. Sure as hell not the fault who do the actual raping and then talking like it's not a big deal or even brag about it. But I'm sure they are the most respecful guys and nobody has more respect for women than they. The best kind of respect.
When a girl is raped and the guy gets 3 months it's the "left's fault" (TM).
If only the left kept their mouth shut after getting out of jail after only 3 months he would have magically been sentenced to 3 more years. But unfortunately, the left "cried wolf" so no magical 3 year sentence.
Sure, as usual. Left's fault (TM) indeed.

Depending on your time zone, today is the 75th anniversary of the attack on Pearl Harbour...
I need little excuse for sticking on a war film, so I'll be watching Tora! Tora Tora! later.
On a serious note, it's amazing how one event can change the world, and we're still living with the consequences.
No Pearl Harbour, no rise of the USA, the Cold War, and of course, the internet, developed during the Cold War, which allows us to have this debate
IMO, the three defining events of the 20th century are:
1) The Great War
2) The Fall of France 1940
3) Pearl Harbour attack
Numbers 1 and 3 need no explanation, but number 2 is also important, because as I said months ago, if France didn't fall, then Hitler is not invading the Soviet Union and fighting a two front war. It's as simple as that.
Anyway, back OT.

The reason why people act like homophobic sexist racist idiots is because they aren't homophobic sexist racist idiots, it's only because they are tired of being called homophobic sexist racist idiots so they are going to act like homophobic sexist racist idiots as long as people keep on calling them homophobic sexist racist idiots?
And despite the election of Donald "Grab Them By The Pussy" Trump, who bragged about being able to sexually assault anyone he wants and getting away with it because he is famous (not ugly women though, because who would assault them) and having people on here defend the actual sexual assault of women "because they wanted it, that's why they hang out with famous people", the left just invented "rape culture"?

It's like Season 4 of Yu-Gi-Oh. It all makes sense if you just stop thinking about it.
Its because your perspective is irrelevant to US politics in a US political thread. It actually comes off as silly and possibly ignorant that someone who has grown up under the US's protective ageis and thus lives in a nation that has had little to worry about where national defense is concerned, is lecturing Americans on what qualifies as "hawkish" with in their political system and standard.
So while the US hovers over Europe like an angry mama bear, destroying its own economy so that Europeans can consider defense spending a token concept, we get called "hawkish". Perhaps, we should finally cut Europe free lol.
Oh yes, The US government spends all that money on the military out of the goodness of their hearts
And for your information Sweden had an extensive defensive military during the cold war, when the US "aegis" was relevant.
The point is that if you want to talk about "hawks" in US politics in any meaningful way then there has to be a division between "hawks" and "not hawks". Even if it's true by some standard that all major US politicians are hawks it's not a very useful thing to say if you're trying to compare policies advocated by those politicians. So if you define "hawk" to mean "aggressive foreign policy by US standards" then Clinton isn't really a hawk relative to other US politicians. She wasn't exceptionally peaceful, but she was clearly on the centrist part of the pro-war scale. And in an election where her opponent was openly saying "bomb the out of ISIS" and "we have nukes, why don't we use them" it's utterly absurd to suggest that she was the pro-war candidate.
To qualify she'd have to be more of a warhawk than most US politicians. You know, someone who is likely to take the US on a more aggressive foreign policy than is the historical norm. She ain't that.
What you're doing here is pointing out that she is more of a warhawk than you, a left leaning Swede. Well yeah, she is more of a warhawk than you, but making a big deal about that is a lot like if you were walking along, and then stopped dead in the middle of the street and started shouting 'holy gak you guys that dog that is walking this way has four legs, isn't that amazing and something we should talk about!'.
You're trying to make a big deal about a thing were Clinton is like almost all her contemporaries. There are some Democrats who more dovish, and there's Democrats and a whole lot of Republicans who are more hawkish. That's the US spectrum.
She is a warhawk and part of the warhawk faction in US politics. She has consistently voted for more aggressive US foreign policy and she has even been instrumental in the planning of at least 1 intervention. What does she have to do pass as a warhawk for you? Charge in personally with the ground troops?
You could make a case that she is only one hawk among many, but it would disingenuous to claim that while claiming she isn´t a hawk at the same time.
I think what we have here is people desperately wanting their dog to be a cat, but no amount denying is gonna turn your a dog into a cat.

To use your analogy, the problem is people calling out Hillary for being a cat ... in a room full of cats. Nobody is claiming she isn't a cat.

Just one problem with that line of thought. USA wouldn't have let SU to control Europe anyway. So when it would have started to look SU starts to grind Nazi's back they would have rushed Europe to stop SU.
You don't expect USA to let whole europe be controlled by their enemy?
Cold war was inevitable anyway.

No doubt she's warhawk. Trump is just bigger.

Reason 80 bajilion why Trump won...
EDIT: criticize the political figure... not the voters. No matter how much you believe that is true.
I said "the deplorables" and "outsider messiah". You can't deny those people exist, the Trump True Believers, and in large numbers. Those people are in for a major disappointment, not all Republicans everywhere.

What the feth have you done?
I'm not saying the Foundation doesn't do good work, nor am I saying HRC is some kind of evil maniac. I'm saying that as someone with a lot of power and responsibility in the US government, she has overseen some extremely destructive actions.
I'm saying I hope she retires and devotes the remainder of her life to doing good work, hopefully in the areas of the world most affected by the actions of the US that she helped direct.

Well...there's a lot of that going on IRL too.
Hey, hey, it's not those people's fault for being racist, sexist donkeycaves.
It's my fault for calling them on it.
Feth's sake.

No, the argument is that you calling them racist, sexist donkeycaves is what made them act like racist, sexist donkeycaves, which nobody did before you said anything, you big jerk, you. That way, it's totally your fault.
It's nice to know the grand old right-wing tenet of personal responsibility is going the same way as their rallying cry of small government.

To be fair, the problem comes when using too large a brush to paint each side with. Not everybody in the right is racist, etc. Equally, not everybody on the left is calling them racist, etc. Those two facts seem to get forgotten all too easily when people are too quick to engage in partisanship rather than actual dialogue.

I can't speak for Trump supporters, since im not one, but many Trump "supporters" I know aren't so much enamored with the man as they are in hatred of the other side of the aisle.
The left and the media has spent the majority of the last 4 years labeling anyone who doesn't agree with their social agenda as Homophobic, xenophobic, racist, fascist, etc etc. When average everyday Americans who are just trying to live their lives and provide for their families are screamed at, labeled, and dismissed because of their skin color or opinions...eventually they just give the perpetrators the finger and vote for the guy who that side hates, out of spite.
Which is a bs justification. They voted for a guy who said homophobic, xenophobic, misogynistic and racist statements throughout his campaign. They need to own up to the fact that by voting for Trump they are embracing the very things the other side accused them of embodying because their choice for a president built his campaign around fear, hate and bald-faced lying.
If you tie your wagon to a piece of gak, you gotta be prepared to have some of the stink rub off on you.
I'm not necessarily disagreeing with you, im not a Trump supporter. I'm just pointing out that many people out there are so tired of being labeled stupid gak that they don't care anymore, and are more than happy to see many SJW's be pissed off.
Do you see how ass-backwards their logic is, though? You used air quotes around supporters when describing these people indicating that you don't think they are true Trump supporters. Yet, they voted for the man, meaning they are as supportive of him as you can be in our democracy short of also handing over campaign contributions.
By doing what they did (voting Trump and supporting Trump) they are becoming the very thing they don't want to be associated with in some misguided attempt to strike back at a nebulous group ("SJWs") who they despise. So really, they are the gak bags "SJWs" believe them to be since they are willing to embrace the ugly rhetoric of Trump and embrace his toxic ideas in order to score points against a social movement they disagree with.
Which makes me wonder at what point do the "stupid labels" just become accurate descriptions of a group who will happily jeopardize many of the foundations our democracy is built on in order to "piss off" the other side?

Oh, I get that, and I've tried to recognize that in previous posts (with the caveat that everyone who did vote for him is okay with a racist in the White House), but there's been an interesting upswing in people on the right - especially people who voted for Trump - in saying that the reason Trump won was people on the left.
Its an old psychological effect. Strangely if you accuse someone of something they haven't done, they tend to get mad. I know its just a crazy concept.
