You are right though, Skitarii are incredibly varied. I'm going with the idea that my Magos like incorporating some more stylistic aspects to his troops, hence the gothic armour, chainmail and details of the Vostroyans. They'll get lots of mods in terms of bionics etc though.

Yeah those Vostroyans do look like they would be good Skitarii, as long as they are converted with more bionics. They got the robes at least. Will you be keeping their mustache?

Sounds like you are going the way of a more feudal mechanicum world, if you got knights and a gothic, chainmail style. The idea is that it is a lesser feral world in a subsystem of some forge world, ruled by knights that walk around in their mech suits and oppress their serfs who are basically at a medieval tech level. Or not. But it does give the possibility of an army with a lot of character, you can pretty much make up anything you want.

I'm looking forwards to seeing those brass etch.

Keep this up. I'd go with the vostroyans as well. Though I think I liked the idea of modded flagellants even more. But that's just me.

Oh dear I've missed 5 pages of an excellent thread.

The assistant tech priest is cool, I love the little servitor guy jeff:

I think the vostroyan's look good.

There is a rather nice Mechanicus thread over on the ammobunker too where the guy doing it is using modified Kreig models http://s3.zetaboards.com/The_Ammobunker/topic/7311745/1/ page 28 is great for some small shots.

I will be now be watching avidly too.

Between working on a chaos army commission and other work, I managed to get a little work done.

This is the start of a Chimera. I used the Manticore front as it looks neat. Scratchbuilt compartment. The multi-laser arrangement is a mock-up. Not sure about that yet. Lots of rivets and details yet to add, plus finish the other one.

I got 2 Russes for a very cheap price and have decided to magnetise the turrets. Really simple. Just cut off the pegs and drill out holes in the gun base and put magnets in the turret where the pegs would fit. I used 3mm x 2mm high strength ones and they work great.

All of my bits orders have arrived safely though I am finding it increasingly hard to restrain myself from buying more. This is my current lot:

Includes: 4 Dreadknights, 2 Russes, 2 Chimerae, a Stormraven, 2x Vostroyan squad, 3x Bastion upgrade sprue, Wych bodies for assassins, land speeder typhoon launchers for more flying servitors, lots of guns and sensor things, plus other cool techy and worky GW bits. Total around $360 US.

Hopefully I'll be able to get more done soon. I've also been working on the brass etch drawings and they are very near completion.

I've been busy over the last week and have got some more done. Really getting into working with plasticard. It's a great material except for the mess of shavings and chips that end up all over the place.

These are earlier remnants from my warband which will be kept for this army/collection. The Iron Father will get plated armour much like the GW Techmarine with servo harness.

Made some progress with my Chimerae and pair of Leman Russes. I quite like the Forgeworld parts for Kreig tanks but am never working with their resin if I can help it. Everything i've seen has been warped horribly. It wasn't all that hard to add on the parts needed to make the tanks a little unique. Still lots of detail to add.

I've also made a start on one of my Myrmidon Engines. I'm yet to decide on how to do the weapons. Perhaps on mounts like the warhound titan? I didn't buy the arms for the dreadknight as they look bad. I was also thinking of representing the doomfists with large mechadendrites or servo arms coming out of the areas for the arm pistons. Anyone got any ideas for these issues?

A really great project, really exciting stuff. I have a few marines with some added spikes from the old dark eldar sprue that I have no use for, though a small group along the lines of the Dark Mechanicus would be so awesome! Love the true scale marine and the Protector the most.

Thanks guys. I'm glad you like it. I'm having so much fun doing this stuff. It's the army I've always wanted to do.

migsula wrote:A pleasure to see new work from you! Do remember to paint some too

Thanks Migs, It was partly seeing your new work that got me inspired to get going again. I think i'm going to get everything assembled and converted first, though I will do some test models. After seeing John Blanche's stuff on your blog, I really want to portray his painterly style on my army but i'm not sure how yet.

That painting sums up the look I'm going for, both in terms of the conversions and sculpting I want to do, and the painting.

Thanks Tom. I kinda feel like this is what I am supposed to do. My aim is to get it all done and take it to Games Day over in Australia next year. Hopefully enter some of the models into golden demon too, not that I'm going to try and make them perfect.

I'm currently building 4 more of those drone things based on the landspeeder typhoon rockets. They are really fiddly things to assemble.

I'll get on to that. I have actually made a start on 4 more of them to round out the squad. I'm going to use them as sentinels and give them magnets so I can interchange the weapons. I'm glad you like the conversion. I think it's one of my better moments of inspiration. I was just playing around with bits and it all came together.

I've been a bit distracted by the idea of playing Adeptus Titanicus (the orignal game), and Battlefleet Gothic. Both are awesome games and I'm telling myself I'm not going off schedule as they are mechanicus too. I've ordered 4 Forgeworld Warhounds and a Warlord to start with and am just sorting out what to get to equip my Mechanicus fleet with for BFG.
