What colour do you basecoat those with?

Thanks! I actually used the spray gun to base these guys with GW purple (Hormagaunt Purple, I think.)

The only thing I'd do different next time is spray base them white, first.

Bright. the dark colour of the weapons keeps it balanced though.

Nice, I especially like the Snow cat and the Visors of the Kasrkin.

Are you modelling these after Russians? it seems that you may live there and I think that thats cool.

I know I've arrived late to this blog but.. whoa!

All those minis for 3 months? Well, to say, love tha painting, is clean, easy, effective. All the minis work well together. Love the conversions of the IG tanks, a lot!

But what i really envy is your ability to do this clean painting in such less time. Keep up the good work!!!

Take it easy!

Thanks! I wasn't sure how the color scheme would work, and I think it does need the white hair/black weapons to keep from just being a big reddish blob. I was inspired by one of the character class illustrations in the Star Wars RPG.

Thanks! Yeah, I was playing a lot of Red Orchestra Ostfront before I started this army.

Thanks. Not everyone loves the Kroot.

Hi and thanks, but don't get the wrong idea - a lot of these had already been painted or were in-progress when I started this blog. For some reason, I had developed the terrible habit of painting entire squads until they were about 2/3 of the way done, then getting distracted. Even know, I am trynig to quickly finish up models that are very nearly done, and have been so for months. I'll have to do a summary of what I've achieved after Friday (when I turn 30). I'm nowhere near done with everything, of course, but making good progress.

I'm holding off more pics till then, so I can do a final upload of what I've finished.

Tonight I finished the Pathfinders and the LOTR undead. Yay!

Ok so Friday is the end day, and I'm not going to have nearly the list done. I am going to try and Finish my Tau crisis suits, Shas Ui, and the Seraphim squad by then. Then I'll post pics of all I've been working on for the last 2 weeks or so, and post a summary of what I've accomplished since starting this blog.

I just did a rough calculation, and while some of the minis had already been started, I think I averaged over a mini a day. We'll see how it all breaks down into "minis completed from scratch" and "minis already started and then finished". Happy Thanksgiving, everyone.

Well, the smoke has cleared and I'm 30. I seem to have been avoiding updating this thread and moving on by going on a massive video gaming binge, but the time has come to sum it all up. First, here are the last round of pics of things I hurriedly finished up last week:

Vampire:

I'm happy with the way the wing turned out - not too happy with the face.

And my Tau Shas 'Ui - I sculpted the head from GS, and am happy with how it came out. I wish I had bought the Firewarriors I used to have new, though, cuz there's a lot of paint on the model that I couldn't strip even with Simple Green, and some gunk on the back under the backpack area. Oh well.

The second Kroot Squad:

The Ehtereal:

The second Pathfinders squad:

The Random Dead:

The last of my Khorne Models: (Kind of rushed these guys - and it shows. :( One horse is missing, being painted by a friend of mine who likes horses. )

Seraphim Sister Superior:

And that's the rest of the suff I got finished before my Birthday. Now I've got one tray of stuff that will polish off my Tau minis, sisters, and undead, leaving me with two large projects, my Krieg army and Lizardmen for 2010. I'm getting rid of some stuff that I wasn't able to get to; like all but one of my Piranhas and some random confrontation minis, and I'll keep going on these, but at a slower rate as I get back to sculpting and drawing.

Here's the tray I'm going to try and finish up:

Seraphim:

Project tray:

Automatically Appended Next Post:
Alright, I wanted to do a quick numbers run down:

Models painted from scratch:
Vehicles: 1
Infantry: 72
Cavalry:10

Models finished that were already started:
Infantry: 37

Grand Total: 120 Models painted/finished in a little under 4 months. Not bad!

Well 120 models is a helluva lot more than I could hope to do in 4 months. To top it off they all came out awesome.

Thanks guys! Well, I'm not going to stop painting.

This week I finished a Skink Shaman from start to finish during lunch breaks. He turned out well, but the photos had too much reflection, so I'll leave em out.

Also weathered up the Baneblade and slapped some transfers on it, and I'm gonna call it done. I've discovered I don't really like painting a model this size.

And finished off the 10 skeleton swordsmen from waaaay back:

Keep on trucking...

Could we get some close-ups on the Baneblade and Swordsmen, please? It's hard to see the details.

Just read through it all now, and wow; this stuff is amazing! The most I've managed to paint in 4 months was a 1k guard army but that was only like 70 figures and 5 vehicles, I dont know how you did it to this standard either. 10/10!

Thanks guys! I did get some more pics of the Baneblade, Holyleaf, though the flash plays hell with the transfers.

Thanks a lot Vet Sgt. I was really fueled by desperation - I had to unbury myeslf from projects!

Allright, some more pics in bound. So I managed to finish one of the crisis suits, but after painting the camo, I had to take a break, so I've been working on something not on the log - the Valkyrie I got on my Birthday. I've got the interior painted, and built a bench and some rails and handholds for the passengers, and then finished off the construction (except for weapons) today. Still not sure if I want to magnetize or just go ahead and glue it together.

The suit looks alot more grim and less cartoony thnx to the limb and neck extensions. Although I thought the water camo was supposed to be a stealth field in transition.

Baneblade looks ace.

Heh, well thanks for the input, but there's a reason I made them that way. I don't like the original look of the suit - too stunty. I lengthened the neck only slightly, and for 2 reasons: 1, I wanted to include an armor collar, since it's a pretty small join and I could see a lot of crisis pilots getting the heads of their suits blown off, and 2, I imagined that crisis suits enter combat a lot of time from high altitude, rocketing down to land on their feet, and would want a neck long enough to allow their head to have a field of vision past the torso as they descend.

Thanks very much. I love the idea of crisis suits, but wanted mine to look more like they do on the cover of the codex and in the concept art - tall and imposing. The BB is not nearly as detailed as it could be - I find that size of an armor model very intimidating!

Stretch wrote:I love your camo/paint scheme on the tau, can you tell me what colors you used? I really like the effect, it looks nice and draws the eye. Great job
Thanks stretch!

The green areas are:

Orkhide Shade base coat
A mix of Emerald Green and Orkhide shade for the edging/ highlights
Vallejo Scorpy Green as the pattern/ final highlight

The blue areas are:
Regal Blue base coat
Enchanted Blue Edge/highlight
Vallejo Electric Blue pattern/final highlight

I really like the Vallejo paints for fine details, but nothing beats the citadel colours for the bulk of model painting, IMHO.
