1. Thanks to GW my English skills are excellent! No translations in Dutch=A+ marks for English in high school because of warhammer! Apparently I know the difference between there (some place) and their (someone's possession) better than a lot of native speakers (and man, these are confused on so many forums by so many people).
2. They fixed the underpowered empire list with 6th edition...
3. Made a more fun magic card game than M:TG
4. Gave me inspiration for campaign rules that no one wanted to try...
5. They took my money
6. They took my time
7. Degenerated White Dwarf
8. Took care I didn't find a girlfriend before I was 18 (bastards)
9. Annoyed me with yet another new edition of WFB, full of planned obsolescense.
10. Took all soul and inspiration from their games by filling the blanks/making it official

I've never played a GW game, but I've been buying and painting their miniatures since about 1990; basically I dislike the way GW has continually reduced their once-rich miniature range, and background, down to skully Imperial blandness. They do still make some great miniatures, but not that many. Rogue Trader was a mess - but a glorious one, one which really captured my imagination. I wish they'd broaden their range to include non-Imperial humans and release a few more alien races, but as we've seen recently the opposite is happening.
I also hate their arrogance, high-handedness, and sinister corporate enforcement. On the other hand, their pricing schemes are ridiculously greedy, but if you're spending money on non-essential items like minatures, you can't really complain.

I built both of my Monoliths without instructions or any external guides at all... it's not a very difficult model, it's just a ing pain in the ass to line up properly.
But GW has done some positive things in my life. I have mild depression and it gets worse when I'm not doing something constantly. The sheer amount of time and almost limitless goals involved in the hobby means I see almost no end. One thing I love to do is build scenery. Even if it's not the biggest piece of art, I still love building it - turning cardboard boxes into ruins, taking a handful of really cheap dollar-store items and turning them into themed scenery, or taking what would previously be thrown out (packing, old junk) and somehow making it into something interesting.
I also am rather anti-social by nature due to other issues and 40K has allowed me to be interactive with people within my own friend group and even reach out to the players at my FLGS.
The only downside is the simply massive amount of money I've spent on this hobby, but the way I look at it, considering how much time I spend on it, how much I enjoy it, and how deep I can get thinking on some projects, I'd wager it's worth it.
Although a price drop wouldn't be a bad thing I fail to see how kirby or wells or any other corporate shill is worth every pence they're paid

Trust me, no matter what damage they have the potential to do, single-shot weapons always flatter to deceive in 40k. Rule #1 - BBAP

Rules. Thats really it for me. Rules. They need to be play tested, and mess ups need a FAQ. If they make a mini set thats too pricey for me, I figure out how to convert something cheaper. Its a win win, they still get money, I get said unit AND my conversion skills improve.
Also my Iron Warriors going bye bye left a sting in my heart.....
You guys are just terrible tho. If someone came here looking to learn about the hobby and read this.... forget it. Youd never see that guy again. He'd get into power wheels racing or something. I think yall need to go and get a breather.

I was about 12 when I got the RT book. This converted me from a D&Der/RPGer to a wargamer. It broadened my gaming horizons, expanded my imagination and has let me improve my painting skills over 20 years.
Helped me cope with stress over the years!

RT hooked me as did early Fantasy Battle - with the cut out card figs at the back.
Zoats, Elementals, Cockratrices stuff I and many of my friends would never use but there in the background creating...'atmosphere'.
No real criticism of GW you get what you pay for with their product, the metal pricing they cannot do anything about because of world wide demand on tin - theres a hedge company out there sitting on warehouses of the stuff.
I am annoyed that no matter which GW store I visit there is never any active WHFB going on,. even the new Skaven release will have one or two days of hype then I will see 40k pushed to the fore...again. GW, give me a reason to lget into FB again.
Oh, Space Marines, genetically engineered brutes designed for war, all the fluff and the novels point to marines 'Looming' and towering over mere mortals and yet...at 28mm.... they all look the same size as everything else.
Frak it. I love GW!

Well lets just say this. I started 40k back in 2ed. Then when 3ed came out they took out the special characters to make the game more balance. Now we are in 5ed and they are bringing back the special chacters. I think in the long run they are just going back to their roots of the game but it hurts the gamer when they do that.

heh, if they go back to their roots, they should give their customers back their freedom and inspiration. Nowadays it's a prefab monoculture that leaves little room for imagination on the players part. Yes, off course you can paint your models any way you like, but it's still the same HQ+troops+support. Armies are bound to be more and more identical if they go on in their current direction. I find that far worse than the occassional powergaming cheesebeardyness.

Let's see.
1) I have several friends that no longer play because GW left their armies hanging. Squats. Genestealer Cult. Dogs of War. LatD. etc.
2) Bitz service. I guess I don't need to do any of those conversions I wanted to do after all.
3) CSM Codex. I play Daemons now. I don't feel bad about playing Daemons. "GW effed me. Sorry bro, now you get it."
