That was a lot of fun, you reallllly gotta think about what you post before you post it.

it was our plan to figure out who the inquisitor was, then to call out a non-inquisitor innocent as a human, almost guarenteeing that vote in our favor because they know its true that they are innocent. Lord-Loss gave up his status without actually declaring it, which pushed Gwar right into our hands (claws) as soon as Gwar voted along with me, it was over, and the fact that Orkeo didnt vote untill Gwar voted made it 10x more sweet.

How did I give you my status? Got to not make the same mistakes as this game

Congrats to the Genestealer team, but I suspect those who played for the Imperium will be even more wary of your Xenos trickery next time.

Please, everyone who played, feel free to discuss why you did what you did, and what you think did or did not work for your team - it will help you all become better players for next time.

I will probably post up a brief review of the major "errors" each side committed (errors insomuch as the basic game theory of the game regards them). These errors will be just as I see them (and with my advantage of having played the game before and knowing all the roles at all times - which oddly does help). I'll post that up probably osmetime tomorrow as I'd rather let you all have at least some time to reflect on what did or did not work without me coloring it too much.

Monday/Tuesday I'll also set up a Registration thread for the next game of which I hope for at least 9-11 players so we can all have maybe a few more day/night cycles (7 players is almost always over by Night 2 or Day 3)

I made quite a few mistakes


By the time I found out that Orkeo was a Genestealer, I couldnt realy do much.

I had been accussed numerous times and the Genestealers had some convincing stories.

I think I've learnt to be more careful about what I post, as not thinking before posting got me into alot of trouble

Ah, well. It was good fun all around anyhow. We were too easily duped, is all. I would have like to tested their admittedly genius strategy against greater citizen cooperation.

I have to admit those Genestealers were tricky!

like I quoted in the game, you used certainties to broadcast that you Knew that Manchu was innocent.

playing off this was pretty key. Certainties imply that you know something, and only 2 types of players could know anything about another player in that last game, Genestealers and the Inquisitor.

Thor's Totally Infallible and Undoubtedly Correct Post Game Analysis

Okay, first thing's first - the title is a joke. I am a relatively new player to the game, and all of you are newer yet. I've read a lot of the theory and I had the advantage of 20/20 hindsight on all of your actions while also knowing all the roles. It goes almost without saying that your first few games will potentially be a little rocky before you learn some good strategies (probably much like your first few Warhammer games went). That said I'm just going to outline the biggest "errors" in play that could be helpful for you all to be aware of as you plan to participate in a new game.

Imperium Error(s)
Being my usual long-winded self, when Manchu asked my via PM what I thought were the mistakes made I rattled off a list of three things that I thought went badly. Manchu applied about four of his brain cells to the consideration and promptly offered back that I really had only listed three variations of a single problem (and he was right). So, here lies the single Imperium error along with some examples that may have once claimed to be errors.

Imperium needs to talk more.

That's it. The way for town to root out Genestealers is to catch people in lies, or make them crack and say something they shouldn't, or look for irregularities and patterns in voting. It is not uncommon for Day 1 to last at least 6 pages for a group of 7 players in more dedicated Mafia Forums. The more conversation that happens each day the better the chances for an Imperium win. Some of this may have been caused by all of you so happily getting into character for the exercise (and lord knows I loved all of that) but a lot of it was probably simple inexperience. For example - Valhallan42nd made a common newbie error in self-hammering himself. I have read a few game theory articles on this habit which is quite common for an innocent to use (after all, how better to help your side by proving your innocence?). The problem was that it cut off the day, ended conversation, and hurried you all into Night Phase where the Genestealers get to play. Since he knew he was innocent Valhallan (even though he was probably doomed) should have kept talking and trying to perhaps sound out who amongst his accusers was perhaps a little too sure of their accusation. (a good question would have been "could each of you describe the reason(s) you see me as most likely being a Genestealer?". The trick is force people to explain logic as much as possible - as Imperium can do this much easier then Genestealers.

You all did quite well in feeling that there was a good chance one of the people who had voted for Valhallan42nd was a Genestealer, this is a common truth in the game that when an innocent is lynched there is usually at least one scum helping with the voting. Lord-Loss also had some potentially useful information in having investigated Orkeo and discovering he was a Genestealer - his problem was trying to convince you all of this and then having Demogeorg's clever trick of declaring first as Inquisitor and turning the heat onto Lord-Loss himself. Could an earlier claim by Lord-Loss as Inquisitor have helped? Hard to say. It is important, though, to remember that besides the Inquisitor there is one other role that generally knows who is or is not innocent - The Genestealers. Gwar! fell prey to this in his vote, since he knew he was innocent it was easy to believe that Demogeorg was obviously the Inquisitor.

Genestealer Error(s)
You guys played a great game and the only potential (though understandable) game play error you made would be your choice of night killing jwelvis. Yes, it all worked out, and I know you night killed him simply because he hadn't been posting and you probably wanted the more active players to have more chance to play. However, in the final analysis, the Genestealers should always nightkill with two thoughts in mind.

1. Who is the most helpful person to the town? (a suspected Inquisitor or other power role is a good night kill. As is any player who seems clever or logical enough to maybe be able to figure out one of you during Day Phase.)
2. Who is everyone confident is Imperium? (you want to night kill players you aren't likely to be able to manage a lynch on)

Jwelvis, since he hadn't posted yet and was probably about to be replaced would have been very easy to convince the other players to lynch him on Day 2 more then likely. A better target probably would have been one of the other posters.

All of the above is just my suggestions based off game theory for the game - and a lot of it can be twisted (well, if the town knows we should night kill the most loyal seeming town, let's night kill the 2nd most loyal seeming - then they'll think the most loyal is perhaps scummy). But those are just my thoughts on where play might have been improved.

One thing we were keeping in mind was the possibility of there being a Priest around.

We figured if there was one, he probably wouldn't bother to protect someone who hadn't posted yet. On the other hand someone like Manchu would be a good one to protect. We didn't want to let the game go on any longer than we could help it.

Also, on day 1 Manchu was pointing his finger at Orkeo, so if we killed him orkeo would look guilty of being a 'stealer.
Lord Loss, me, and Gwar all voted for valhallan, we had a chance of convincing LL and Gwar to vote in our favor in the second day, so we didnt want to kill either of them.
and if we killed JW it would give no hints as to who the stealers were!
