Wait! I have a cunning plan . . .

There are seven of us yet only five of us are truly Imperial citizens, meaning that two are nasty xenos sympathizers. At the moment, the loyal and upright outnumber the degenerate mongrels. If one of their number were to be killed now, the remaining one would stand far less of a chance of killing the rest of us. That means it would be to the benefit of the filthy mutants to defend each other in the face of our accusations.

But notice how no one is defending Valhallan42nd. This may be evidence that he is not actually one of the traitors--and perhaps one or more of those who have accused him actually are!

Now I realize that by defending him, I am exhibiting the behavior I just outlined: xenos working together in order to save one another and then overcome us all. But, hear me out. To prove that I am not one of them but rather an Emperor-fearing citizen like most of you others here, I will accuse myself (Vote: Manchu). Because Orkeosaurus has already accused me, that leaves only two of you left to also attack me for me to be wrongfully killed--creating better odds than currently that someone will be lynched today, which is also in the xenos' best interest.

So, as it stands there are two targets: Valhallan42nd, who will not be lynched unless either Orkeosaurus or I change our minds (which will definitely not happen in my case, at least, because I don't think Valhallan42nd is a traitor) or jwelvis629 actually shows up AND me, a far easier target. By exposing myself to this risk, I hope you real humans--who alone have the requisite honor to understand my thinking--will sincerely consider this line of thought.

I do this knowing that while my death will vindicate me as one of the Emperor's own, it will also incriminate others.

Bah. You're in no real danger here. You still need two more votes against you, and that's assuming you don't waffle on the vote against yourself.

It's possible that Jew Elvis is a genestealer, and hasn't come to his defense because he's sick or something. (Or because he wants to be thought of as least as he can be.) It's possible that you're a genestealer, and have not defended Valahallan up until this point because you were holding this post in reserve.

I'm almost inclined to vote for Valhallan just because we need to set someone on fire! Seriously, no one's ever going to be lynched on the first day with it being known for sure that they're a genestealer. Professing loudly that the person isn't a genestealer would probably just make everyone suspicious of that person as well. Since you need 4 votes to be lynched, and you don't normally vote against yourself, and one person hasn't entered the thread yet, there's never going to be too many defending someone about to be lynched. There aren't enough people in the bunker.

Per the rules - weekends are counted as 1 day, so today is officially the third day of inactivity for jwelvis. I was not planning to prod him till vaguely 12:01 am Wednesday. But I shall do so now, though I will note he hasn't posted anything in the intervening days so he's probably just tied up in the horror known as real life. If he doesn't post by sometime on Friday I'll replace him with one of our eager fill ins.

For the record - it is totally possible to have someone lynched without all the players having posted.

It is also possible to help in a self-lynch, as Manchu is currently doing.

You all circle around the fallen form of Valhallan42nd and search over the corpse. All you can find in his pockets are a copy of The Infantryman's Uplifting Primer, and a "I Loves Teh Sphess Emprah" button.

With the first Lynch official we are now in Night 1, you all sleepily wander off to various rooms in the compound for sleep - none of you fully trusting the others. You suspect you won't get much rest tonight as you attempt to barricade your rooms.

If you are Genestealers you may nos PM each other to decide whom you will kill tonight. One of you PM me your consensus.
If you are the Doctor (and I'm leaning towards calling this one Imperial Priest) you may select one person to protect from being killed tonight - if the Genestealers target him you will prevent his death. PM me your choice.
If you are the Inquisitor you may select to investigate one person and discover if they are loyal to the Emperor or to the Genestealers. PM who you wish to investigate to me, I will PM back your discovery.
If you are an Imperial Citizen you may barricade your room and hope that the Will of the Emperor protects you.

Night will last 72 hours from this post or until all relevant Night actions are PMed to me - whichever comes first. If you do not get your action in within the 72 hours then you do not get to perform your Night action.

"Doctor" makes him sound like some sort of genestealer-loving mad scientist abomination. We would have to burn him and anyone who has talked to him.

But a Priest will deliver us from the scourge of the alien.

(And by the way, alien, my rooms is totally guarded. Seriously, there's a dresser in the way of the door, and you can't pass through it because I prayed to the Emperor to fill the dresser with Faith.)

You are all barricaded in your rooms, awaiting the worst. Jwelvis was carted off to a room of his own, since he was clearly numb with shock and fear and hadn't moved or spoken since discovering the body of Soonto B. Deadicus.

The evening passes slowly as none of you feel safe in the least, but soon enough the light of day creeps out across the land (though deep in this bunker one doubts you can see it). You all return to the communal room and soon enough you realize one of you is missing - jwelvis has not appeared. Figuring he's probably still comatose you all head to his room, only to discover his mangled body in the abbatoir that was once a sleeping quarter.

Checking his remains you discover he is wearing a pair of Ultra-underwear with a smiling figure of Roboute Guilliman giving a thumbs up.

Jwelvis was an innocent Imperial Citizen!

You all glance at each other and realize that this dawn has not brought hope, but instead a promise of further darkness.

Quick Strategy Update
===============

Since for most of you (all?) this is your first game of Mafia I'll offer you up some more advice and concern for Day 2. Currently you are all in a LyLo situation - this is Mafia slang for Lynch or Lose. As it stands, if you do not Lynch today *and* have that Lynch be a Genestealer then the Imperial Citizens will lose as statistically it will be impossible to stop the Genestealers (well, okay, if there is an Imperial Priest/Doctor role and you trust him to accurately defend the Genestealer's target you can get by with a no lynch...but you'll be right back in the same situation as today). So, as it stands you really ought to Lynch, and you better make certain that what you Lynch is a Genestealer.

Tips for Townies - Don't be quick to vote, and be cautious of self votes as with only three votes to Lynch, if you self vote both Genestealers can hop on the bandwagon, vote you, get the Lynch, and guarantee victory for themselves. WHat you should be doing is looking at the voting from Day 1 - did anyone seem suspicious? Did there appear to be anyone too quick to team up and vote for a person for no real reason? Normally you'd have a high suspicion of the person who dropped the last vote on an innocent lynch, but unfortunately Valhallan42nd did himself in, so there's not many clues there. Be careful of anyone claiming to be the Inquisitor - they might be a Genestealer and be lying about who they investigated.

Tips for Inquisitor - You best hope you did some good investigation last night. Strategically it might be worth your while to declare yourself if you can definitely point the finger at a guilty Genestealer. The problem is, if you do declare yourself then odds are a Genestealer will also claim to be Inquisitor, in which case you might get hung, or, even if you convince everyone you're legit and get a guilty Genestealer hung, then the last Genestealer will undoubtedly kill you Night 2 to remove the threat you represent. This is a risky time to serve the God Emperor of Mankind.

Tips for Imperial Priest/Doctor - If there is someone declaring as Inquisitor and you believe them to be telling the truth, then you probably want to use your powers to defend them at Night. of course, there might not even be a Doctor role, so it can get chancy for who the Genestealers want to target on Night 2 if they think a doctor is out there. If a Doctor role has lasted this long he probably wants to keep his mouth shut to keep the Genestealers guessing and perhaps be around to prevent an Inquisitor kill.

Tips for Genestealers - You guys are looking pretty, all you have to do is cast doubts on any self confessed Inquisitor claims (or go ahead and claim first so the 2nd Inquisitor perhaps looks more guilty). Your primary goal is twofold - 1. You want to make sure that an innocent is lynched today if at all possible. 2. If it looks like one of you will be hung you want to make sure the Genestealer who isn't being hung looks as innocent as possible so he won't be able to be found easily on Day 3.

Well, what we did was hack them up and build macabre forts from the limbs and torsos. Then we put the heads on poles, to try and make the Orks think that we had killed them, so we would be more intimidating.

Unfortunately severed human heads just makes Orks sort of amused, and forts made from body parts really become something of a liability when they're actually shelled. They just sort of fall down and suffocate you. (On the plus side, this gives you more material for rebuilding it afterwards.)

Whoever did this will pay. I saw the Emperor, praise Him forever, in my dreams last night. He will not allow the foul xenos to prey upon His children forever, you know. Whatever sins these poor wretches committed in life, they are at peace now. Conversely, nothing but the scourge of the Warp waits for the disgusting fiends who so cowardly murdered this man.

Speaking of which, I wonder what guilt those who drove Valhallan to suicide bear . . . I suggest that we use our time today more wisely than yesterday and avoid spilling any more human blood. Demogerg, Gwar!, and L-L all eagerly pressured Valhallan into killing himself. And yet none of you have showed any remorse upon discovering that he was a loyal citizen of the Imperium.

One of you, at least, is a xenos-lover for whom even the name traitor is too good. I urge you to confess at once so that your death may be swift. For even if you manage to murder every one of us Emperor-fearing real humans, the Guard will lay waste to this miserable world soon enough. And what they will do to you is far worse, I'd guess, than what we might.

So come forward. It is clear that one of you, at least, is a stranger to our divine species.

Orks! That's how. One of them shot me in the ass. He was laughing about it all battle, and it was both physically and emotionally damaging. I pulled through, because the Emperor is my strength.

See this scar? It's from my own bayonet. I dropped in on my foot when the Commissar startled me. But I pulled through, because the Emperor is my strength.

See this tattoo? It was supposed to be the Aquila, but I think they guy who drew it was drunk, so it has three wings and no head for some reason (I was unhappy with his workmanship). I pulled through though, because the Emperor is my strength.

Orkeosaurus is certainly not above my suspicions--and I don't believe much of what he says about his alleged past--but the fact that L-L and Demogerg are so opportunistically eager to isolate either him or I is to my mind damning evidence of their conspiratorial intentions. If you're both loyal citizens, then let's have it out in the open. Why did you move against Valhallan? You criticize me for pointing to Orkeosaurus but unlike your judgment in this matter, mine has not yet proven disastrously mistaken.

And out of we remaining five, moreover, only I have had the conviction to call upon the Emperor--who endowed His children not only with divine hatred but also the blessing of intellect to direct that hatred more precisely against His enemies--to formulate some sort of plan for rooting out the traitor, while the rest of you have stood about agog and shifty. That makes you all appear fit the bill of brainless, sub-human xenos, by the way.

Orkeosaurus may be spinning lies, as I certainly think he is, but the others of you have presumed to do nothing but level suspicions. And that makes you all the more suspicious.
