Morning.....wow what a 'treat' there is nothing quite like lightning and thunder that sounds like the onset of the apocalypse at 4am. Anyway the tapas was excellent but chilli beer is definitely an acquired taste.

monkeytroll - Cheers. The green and blue will get used, kinda had them in mind. The yellow will be used on the pincers etc.

Neil - Well I imagine that if I had a deadline I would get more work done. I might try and get my mate Martin to enter some sort of doubles 40k tournament with me.... so I will actually paint my guard army. Thanks for the website, I'll have a look later when I'm feeling more alive... but the first link gave me this "Data syntax error. You have to use Color Scheme Designer to export a color palette."

Indeed there are 40k/fantasy audio books now, some of them only come as audio dramas that ruins it. I'd like some bloke just to read not act it out.

jackanory - Cheers. Have you got anything cool in the works? How are those grots?

Better go I have an irrationally angry women baking at the moment.

Looking fantastic, Peter! I think the hazard stripes were an awesome design choice, and the 'dead flesh' kind of colour on the servitor is fantastic. The whole torso -thing- is really disturbing actually, as I really thing servitors ought to be, so kudos there.

The progress on the Magos is looking good! It's a little early to judge, but I'm sure you'll do him justice.

And thank you so much for the plug!

Q0rbin - Cheers. The next picture update will be later this week or next weekend. Haven't done any painting today but I have seen the film Sucker Punch. I wish I could claim I went to see it for the story but it was all the visual effects I went for. The costume designer deserves an Oscar! House Party tonight and Mother's Day tomorrow means very little painting this weekend.

neil101 - You are a gentlemen. I'd prefer chilli crisps at this point. Thanks for the picture . I'm thinking I can fit a bit of turquoise into the scheme. I'm hoping the whole thing will come together when I've done the glowing green bionic eyes. At the moment nothing much is standing out.

I missed the front page...what was it? I keep on hoping that one day I'll click on dakka and see one of my models.

Scarper - No worries about the plug...but I guess we get a lot of the same crowd...but what a crowd .

The hazard stripes came about just to break up the massive amounts of metal and grey, I'm rather happy with them. The servitor was just one of those things that happens from time to time. Worked out much better than I expected.

Got some painting done tonight Behind schedule for the weekend finish, but the Magos is coming together now and I can see the end, and I blame that firmly on Abi (and less firmly on Neil, for fanning my imagination for another project).

Neil - Cheers, the turquoise works a treat! I don't think I would have thought of using it.

Baiyuan - Right back at you sir.

Neil its a good colour....I seem to go through phases on a certain colour.

As for the Brat...I've got the one with glasses too. I'm sure I'll get around to it at some distant point....I want to turn him into a representation of the character with two pistols shown on page 44 of the Inquisitor Rulebook. (sorry googlefu fail) The biggest problem I've got with the model is the small size and finding arms was an issue. The empire militia were the best option for arms I found. I've also got another one of the old scavvies too.

Only found this thread now! BRILLIANT STUFF with the magos and bipedthing.

Also - Great minds think alike - I also did a ring wraith =I= years ago. 2003 it seems - I had to dig out my pbase gallery from the dusted ends of the interweb for proof:

my camera at the time was quite basic.

neil101 - Good luck sculpting the arms...will you be sculpting the hands too? Oh and the picture I was talking about is actually on page 36 of the downloadable copy of the Inquisitor Rulebook.

Molotov - Cheers mate. Like a bad penny. On your blog I meant I was missing your blog on Dakka (I miss you too, a bit, but don't tell anyone)....I know you...you probably have half a dozen miniatures in the works at the moment... Bring out the fiendgryn!, to the tune of Iron Maiden's "Bring Your Daughter's To The Slaughter" (Jeez I've not heard that song in years....yay for You Tube).

As for better pics of Spur... when he is finished.

migsula - Cheers for the CAP LOCK. As for your ring wraith =I= he turned up at the end of the Jade Vessel, if I remember correctly. I've not see the green stuff picture of him though. Looks like he took a hell of a lot more work than mine. The wraiths are a lovely idea but I really don't like the models, except for the one I've used. The new ones are even worse! Initially I bought the ring wraith for a possessed warband, for Mordheim, that never happened.

Ok another update. I never thought I'd be able to update both my threads in one sitting....

For Magos Spur's warband a Skitarri:

  • Now I have a request...which way round should I put him on his base? I'm thinking the middle picture

  • Yes he is indeed armed with a hotshot lasgun, aux grenade launcher and an exterminator cartrirdge . The basic model is the Vostroyan flamer with hat removed and hood in its place. Since I really love the face and rebreather I only added a brim to make it look like he is wearing a helmet under the hood. I removed the flame nozzle and replaced it with a lasgun end. It was at this point I decided that he should get an exterminator to he rear. I then had to do something with the bit at the bottom bit...I suddenly remembered a model from my youth and a quick image search using my phone found a rather nice example:

So he got a aux. grenade launcher too. Now in game its fine....the weapon only has a weight of 50 and he has a bionic arm so its all good

    Any pointers appreciated.

Looks excellent! I vote middle - the arch leaning at the same angle as his weapon would draw too much attention from the model, I think. Kudos on the productiveness! You're doing one hell of a lot better than me atm

TheChronoTrigger and Scarper - Cheers guys. I've just taken your advice and pinned him to the base. I think you're right the buttress arch now looks like scenery rather than the focal point. I'm going to have to paint the figure and base separately, since I can see me getting annoyed that the buttress is in the way of my brush.

I also favored the middle position and Scarper hit the nail on the head, it was distracting the other way around.

The idea to use the fuel lines as cables for a hot shot las gun is ingenious, I might have to steal that. Keeping the ignitor as an aux launcher is also quite inventive. They suck rulewise, a noob tube always adds to the visuals of a gun, suitable for a Skitarri.

I'm very excited, that Cadaver, you and me are converting Vostroyans at the same time. Can't wait to see them all next to each other, painted and all.

I should probably thank Zinge for the exterminator idea, which left the igniter at the bottom to turn into a grenade launcher. Zinge's hand flamers are very cool...which reminds me I need to place an order.

So please check his stuff out here http://www.dakkadakka.com/dakkaforum/posts/list/349840.page or http://www.freewebstore.org/zinge-industries/index.aspx?pageid=658634

As for the hellgun as soon as I saw the model I thought it was a lasgun converted into a flamer. As for the aux grenade launcher sucking.... having two krak grenades stowed away for that time you run into a chaos space marine, priceless.

Yeah Cadaver's use of the snipers is great...I'm rather fond of his bounty hunter...beardy. As for your henchman it is so cool....I've stolen an idea from your model for a future scavvy! Sounds like a plan...should have the Skitarri painted in the next month or so lol.

Vostroyans are so hot right now.

You mean, Dogg the Bounter Hunter? Haha I think he needs a proper name actually, I was in a hurry to name him pre-game and Dogg was an easy choice.

But I'm psyched we are all working on Vostroyans and yet still coming up with unique ideas for the models. I really want to get some more converting done this weekend, but it may be time for me to get the brushes out and see how rusty I am. It's been almost 2 years since I've painted a model and I think I'm gonna keep putting it off if I don't just sit down and paint something. And that needs to happen cause I got a copy of Space Hulk last week and I have big plans to do something different with that so I need to get my skills back on track before I dive into it.

Haha yeah, my friends and I have a thing with choosing ridiculous names for our models that make us laugh. Dogg was just plain lazy though.

I think I'm gonna get some painting done today. Still deciding on a scheme so we'll see what happens.
