man could you do me a favor? would you try to scult a realmans uniform on a catachan soldier? i just saw your helmets on your blog and if your not able to do so i daren´t experiment myself...
be brave soldier , i command thee into the greenstuff! Will give it a go , i was gonna try anyway , actually , after i saw that catachan pretorian conversion. i linked earlier could you provide a pic of what you have in mind though!
thats absolutly waht i´ve been looking for... both versions are what i have in mind...i havn´t got the mind so late to figure out what will be what for now but thats what i will do to my many catachans...ha. so it is doable after all. only one monor downpart...no greenshots in this link so i have to figure that one out by myself i guess...
i cant comprehend why i haven´t touched that link before...
made some progress to the flags on both sides of the blimp- hull.
used cardboard and cut it in little parts to give the banner a more structured look.wasn´t easy to glue it to the frame tho...wanted to peel away most of the time and no real thing to hold it in place. but then i took some staples and it worked. i guess in the evbening it will be cured. the "v" is not glued on as i´m not that satisfied with its design...
whats not to be seen on those party outdated pics is that i drilled 1mm holes into the banner and stuffed some needles in them. glued them with superglue and they should when completed look like the banner is riveted to the frame...i can really recommend this procedure. takes a bit of time but it works real good and also gives a bit of stability to the frame.
so without further ranting i present the flag. for our brits visitors, feel free to salute, stand to attention, show your behind, make a rude gesture or just scroll on...whatever takes your fancy^^
complete hull with flag
detail shot of said flag...
at neil: no i havent figured out how to do the top deck...its still a puzzler for me only thing i definatly know is that i will use matchsticks to create a wooden looking floarboard of the pirateship nature...that will also test my nerves...
Re decking:
Would consider plastic card and scoring the planks in with a pin in a pin vice.
Think this would be a bit of a chore but an easier option to matchsticks.
The lines would be able to take a thin wash so you could see them on the finished model.

I agree, maybe get some pre scored/formed plasticard sheets with detailing on.
Thin strips of plasticard may end up as a better option than matchsticks as well.
well you alwyas have to consider my middlename, which is cheap^^. the matchstick i got, they´re a thicker variant for fire-places, so the are also longer, about 30cms. i have plasticcard but i wanted to use the remanants to form a hull of the top deck like a real hull for a ship...
the thing with preformed palsticcard i rulre out completly as i have to go shopping in a madelling suply market here and they´re not on the cheap side...^^
i have to put some serious thougfht in the next step, also maybee i do a quick or not so quick test deck to show the general idea behind my idea^^...
I prefer matchsticks as well , its trhe real deal, and although it maybe time consuming , i doubt its anymore time consuming than scoring plasticard to try and make it look like matches. lollypop sticks ( wow havent ever wrote that word i think) are also good , but they are more expensive as well. had an idea about the top, i watched troy the other day , and noticed how similar the greek ships were to the 40k ships , they obviously took the design from the greeks.

maybe you could also steal the idea, and place the decking atop it
what about wooden coffee stick stirrrers for the deck planks? Walk into costa, buy a coffee obtain umpteen sticks. they're long, easily cut and look good plus you can paint them in you fancy.

The USS Orinoco was a Federation Danube-class runabout that was in service with Starfleet in the late 24th century, attached to Deep Space 9. It was outfitted with a sensor pod.
I did that in Mc D's once , and i got a load of straws too! lol the flag is looking good , i really cant wait to see whats up your sleeve with this Airship , There is so much scope. I was just looking at model ships for details like wheels etc..
when i came accross some wonderful american cival war ships, very steampunk!

man whenever you post such links i have a feeling i will dislocatemy jawbones in the near future.
and dang!
must i be every time right?
my jaw dropped by the second link...
for all of you who don´t want to klick the link:
that had to be fully shown...
man what a mindblower. i had a similar idea out of the starshiptrooper movie...
but i guess i would miss the oportunity to do some real deck and planks...so it will be rather something in the lines of
thanks neil for the research...
and what now? well how about some update?
no?
well heck yeah!
this evening i was watching Indy, crappy movie. but while doing so i did the domes of the blimp hull.
so i stuffed and glued the domes with th same cloth i used for the middlepart. made some triangular shapes out of it and glued them with pva to the plastic hide...
all in all it worked quite well. it now cures but given our room temperature that wont take long.
both domes now layered with glued on cloth
inside work view of one dome
so i am now thinking about how to attach the domes to the body... after that i will have the thought capacity to really look into the decksdesign...i think the galley look is very fine. i will probably use sprue frames for the reling. also i have to do some building on top as it would look a bit lazy if done purly in ancient greek style. the batteringram look is something i hold dear, this i will consider doing...dont know how but i will sleep over that...
after i have a clear path to the deck the engines will be next...

but the essence of this vid would be that an airship with the queens likeness in front of it has got some seriuos powers that can only stomp the unworthy to their well deserved ends...
hmmm well one has to calcultate its options...
we´ll see, vik
Automatically Appended Next Post: so i made my own first attempts at designing some sort of flag for the Victorian Empire...
tho it is still the fourthieth millenium it is very british indeed...
with the surprem ruler The Empress Victoria a flag could either look like:
This utterly screams Steampunk to me. It also hits the "hey that looks like star wars" vibe that will get you ALOT of immediate attention and second glances. I vote this choice fo sho.
Automatically Appended Next Post: Those pics of fleets are really great. I'd poke around for some Battlestar Galactica stills if I were you....some amazing stuff there.
Glad to see that the zepplin is progressing, looks like you found a good way to get the cloth in there! Keep us posted.
Automatically Appended Next Post: As for attaching the domes....I STRONGLY advise going out and getting a pin vise/hobby drill. Use some wire snips to cut paperclips for the pins, or if you are a baller use brass rods. YOu're going to want to do some serious work on the structural stability of something as heavy as you are working with.
Hell, depending on the thickness of the plastic you could easily use small nails for dowels, or even wood. Just please take the time to make sure them gaks aren't going to fall apart when someone bumps it!

be sure of that mate. in that model is way to much heartblood... the only thinh that keeps me from building is the constant energy it costs me to not do all the other stuff i have ideas about. nearly an hour a day i do some steampunk webresearch to get more ideas... its a very unhealthy addiction but i like it....i´m on top of it, i can do it...darn those flashes of creativity are anoying...
as for the star wars reference, i have for now forsaken this idea as it would associate my project in a false light. there would be to many expectations coming up in the wrong directions...
i think i will do a list tommorow of new projects for this steampunk army as to whats to do in the future... maybe that help me then to concentrate on the task ahead...

hey Vik that link to your mini didnt work , could you post on here so i can see him! as for mordheim i think any empire gut=ys would suit your ingenious contraption
you cant know it for now, but your pic shows something that will be a sideproject of this blog...and yeah the blimps look really good. but they are a bit of the path i´m going...
and to all posters, you realize that your also to be held responsible if this airships going to be awsome, dont ya all?
Yea the fronts on them with the lion type faces are awesome. I recomend watching the whole of avatar series. (not just because its awesome)
ALL of the fire nations contraptions and machines are all tecnically steam powered, as they use fire bending to run the machines themselves. all their stuff would look absolutely epic on a tabletop. I recommend you look into it
i tried the movie tho and got bored inbetween... happens not often for me...it wasn´t building up any suspense for me. saw some short glipmse of the series with my kids tho...i´m torn when it comes to manga. some parts of this genre i lke but when i see widesmiling dudes i hit the channelswitch button...
fair enough. Never seen the movie personally. But being only 18 i guess my inner child not wanting to grow up still attracts me to anything cartoon..
Here are some extra pictures
I like your Imperial general . to me he always reminds me of Winston churchil . like a British bulldog, short and stocky with a mean temper! absolutely perfect for your airship admiral , if thats what your thinking also the flag , is excellent for your queen vik flag!, You have really hit the nail on the head with those too guys for sure!
With regards to the mortheim gangs, in blighty(Uk) its Mordheim, and that is an area of the Empire of karl franz ,along with Nuln

i think they will suit your steampunk look well, but like you said may need some goggles on a few!
mordheim... no wonder i had so few hits on ebay after i bought the one auction... spelling and me are on war...
thanks...for the winston i will scult a cigar...to give it even more churchil look...nice idea neil...
at aqua, i´m also totaly drawn to comics...and i hope my innerchild never grows up...
as for comics i´m more into marvel...but thats only taste so have fun^^
some links where forbbiden... but i caught your general idea... and the tankmodel is something i will do some ebay research about...be sure of that.
well lol i think i should look for glasses now... seems i have something with my eyes, not reading posts, and not looking what the minis actually look like...
well if my rent wasnt so high by now i would do that^^, as bigger is easier... but then it gets harder cause you cant use garbage for building anymore^^...
Just one huge ship for your apocalypse game. 8000 points.
That would be the ultimate presentation board for an army at a tournament. Rocking up with that ship, with a 1850 army just sitting on the deck ready for battle.
Rewatched that video. maybe not THAT big... hahahah you could have about 100k points fitted on that with ease. =\
