Basically what was said
longitudinal stringers are the ribs that run along from back to front
Latitudinal goes around, so are circles if you look at the nose of the airship.
talked today with my wife and she said i should make it way thicker in the middle part. then i will add as described by you longitudinal stringers. also i will add some Latitudinal ones to create that striking net look.
after that i´ve planned to cover the blimb with cloth and then paint it at first with glue to make it sturdier...
also i thought about letting the "stringer net" or better the skelleton above the cloth so to still have that skelleton look...
have to say I really like the look of constructions like the frame of an airship skeleton. It could look really cool.
At some point in the future am supposed to be hosting a Steampunk group build on a modelling forum.
Am in danger of knicking some ideas!
Automatically Appended Next Post: Looking at the video link above I discovered this by the same band, with footage from Last Exile which I thought rather good

i downloaded all the last exiles, they are pretty good! the airhsips are very steampunk.
and Vik be sure to add dozens of brass pistons pumps goggles and dials. and wooden decking, and bolts for that wooden brass steampunk look!
Viktor von Domm wrote:thanks man. well the bases where indeed a very fast job. my wife said the cobblestones should look rounder... i understand here... but she didn´t understood the process involved when doing bases so i will give it another try someday when i´m not fixing arships but instead will be doing the guardsmen...
be sure to check in later. more brassy things to come^^
vik
No need to drive yourself nuts micro-detailing a dozen bases. Those will look just fine from 24 inches. Maybe "cobblestone" is too specific....they look like concrete from a city or something....which is good neh?
thank whovever watches upon us for joining this forum!
sometimes i think that for all that i know and for all that i learn that i merly sit at avast beach on an endless opcean and the things i fathom are just teacups full of wisom and knowledge...
thanks for the video. again my horizons have broadend. i will definatly look into that cool series. i liked the look instantly.
i´ve found during my research similiar art:
well agroszkiewicz , i want to look it right so probably end up nut i will, if i am not even now^^.
well the design is a bit too futuristic and technological advanced but the titel for the ship and the colorscheme could very well be red zepplin (or should i do led zepplin?^^).
again to Chibi Bodge-Battle :
areodynamics is something i think you cant be bothered with when it comes to something like steampunk. i think here aplys more the rule of cool than anything else. Aesthetics is more important here. so i will bulk it out and also i will let the skeleton be shown. also as suggested by neil i will add hopefully massive panels of polished wood and brass and bronze. there will not be much steel to be seen. also the colorscheme is pretty set in my head. i will aim for a very classy gentleman look. very british and colonial. i like the red coats. with white straps and polished looking weapons. my soldiers have to polish their belts and shoes!
there not in some downtrodden gang you know^^ there in the royal navy or else!!
thanks for all that nice support and inerest in this project.
if soemone has any further suggestions don´t hesitat to take part here.
hey vik, love your research pics and comments about sitting on the edge of a vast sea really exoressive visually, i think you should use this as a metaphor for your project! , standing atop the led red zeplin looking out towards a new horizon, the Admiral awash with grim forboding. sailing above the battles like a sword of Damocles waiting to smote wrathfull lighting down up your enemies far below! and appearing through parted clouds like a ray of hope as an An avenging angle to rescue the footsloggers from the enemies.
mmm. the sword of Damocles is a good name for an airship aswell , hovering above the enemies heads !
more inspiration if you can take it mate!
sorry i poste loads of pics your project has got me excited! I think the Nautical theme is really good and you should def consider it! love the idea of broadside cannons firring and droping lightning bombs on the enemy below lol edit also admuiral alfred von tirpitz would make an ideal Grande Fleet Admiral , so much character, he would also make an ideal Enemy for My Praxian guard General Mathias Von Dom footsloogers army vs Flyboys Navy

no way man, you didn´t name a respectable officer of the the likes of me? though luck will be upon ye!
seriously great honor for me^^. and yeah i´m pretty exited as well. it is a great thing to make. today i had a little fun in hotglueing tau gatlings into my halfspherical sponsons...
seems i have to search for more round spheares tho...
needs more dakka one could say...
well i imagined the comandeering officer as a person with a very well kept beard. the naval concept IS the thing to do. chibi and neil your both right in the blue scheme. this makes me torn inbewtween.... would red coats and black/blue trousers work? with a red stripe like han solos pants? also this will be easier if i stick to navalforces cause they have these rather easy to sculpling hats/caps.
and for that methaphor of mine...
seems that i was just sitting blindly on that shore and the waves came crushing in. now drowned with knowledge i will emerge with newfound wisdom and will rise like a watery reborn version of a phoenix...
damocles....sounds cool. got something more british up your sleeves tho? if i start ancient greek to use, then i might drift away from a consistent theme? or not?
some pics of yours neil literaly blew my mind. why didn´t i found that final fantasy pic???
i now think i need an upper deck as well. the cabins are good and fine, but for that suggested detail i need lots of space...
good that will take ages, what did i stumble into...
also if i do much of that submarine thing, which i like, but then i would go crossboarder to dieselpunk as well. which would result in to the shiny and brass world of queen victoria but rather the late 20s and 30. of the cast century...
with every decission you make you birth a new world but also kill millions. its a good thing tho that you can make many more on your way through life...

During the age of Man of War sail ships, there would be a unit of soldiers with muskets on board ship for close quater fighting.
These were the marines who in the Royal Navy wore the red uniform. It would be perfectly valid to have both.
There were uniforms of blue and red, but can't remember which army. It too would work.
TBH if you imagined the red and white then there is no reason why you need change that. Your airship and crew!
I demand more WIP pics lol , feels good to badger you for work lol , although i hope you return to the arth angels , its a great concept as well, and i think you should use the underground drop pod drill thing, in your IG concept , then you have the sky and the undrground covered, Land submarines! now there an idea worth doing!!
you Must develop a name for your Army and some fluff. we want characters ...please!
regards neil
And for mathias Von Dom , i never siad he was a very good general though! you havent seen him yet! he is leader of the Roughriders! your on horseback!
mmmmm steam-punk. I want it- and those cone shaped things are mop-bucket parts! I like your inventiveness! those shower gel containers make excellent fins!!
thanks weety, was really unsure about the bottles as fins...
and i aplaud to your object regognition^^ the cone shaped ones are indeed from mop-buckets^^
steam punk is a great deal for me now. this project will be a true breaker. either i break it into a true beuty or get broken in the process...
a small update as demanded^^
i have today done some more work on future weapons. after i did a search through my 40k bitsbox i came up with some insights about steampunk look... the thing i found out, you have to take into account that we are mostly talking about my taste here... is that xenos tech looks far more suitable than actual IG stuff...
so i hearby present some artful weaponry from the futuristic victorian age...
group shot of todays achievments...
tau railguns?? to be gatling stand ins on halfspherical sponsons...
sideview of some eldarpieces cobbled into an anti aircraft device. if you build a super heavy airship you have done a hard job no point in small aircraft messing up your work, he?
you´re looking at me pal? yeah? so what smile^^ and pi....off^^
and a very old and first scratchbuilt of mine, done om some pipe-isolation foam and some cardboard tubes...
so now you can come up with some constructive critizism...^^
Nice build, ill be watching. You have inspired me to make something similar.

Zweischneid wrote:No way man. A Space Marine in itself is scary. But a Marine WITHOUT helmet wears at least 3-times as much plot-armour as a Marine with helmet. And heaven forbid if the Marine would also happen to have an intimidating looking, vertical scar. Then you're surly boned. Those guys are the worst. Not a chance I'd say.
being an inspiration is somewhat like being a preacher^^ i like to do that to people^^ so thanks for the compliments.
and weety and monkytroll, you bet that they will be brassmade!!! wouldn´t be caught in hell and when dragged before the devil to make amends for my sins, i at least know that i hadn´t commited one sin^^. be sure, i´ve waited so long for a chance to pop open my dwarfen bronze and some brass pots to use on^^.
at agroszkiewicz :
i have to say that i didn´t do the half balls out of GS. they were made from cherry bombs. my family and me where off to some serious bits hunting the on newyears eve... there we found lots of bits from rockets and so forth... lots of pieces you will see here on this thread. i highly recommend treasure hunting after your woken up stark drunk... the clear air will sobber you up a treat and you can find lots of usefull stuff then!!!!
well i will do a shot for you to see what i could obtain...wait a sec, will take some pics for you...
I love how this looks! I might snipe this idea to make a Thunderhawk type craft. Maybe something fun and looted looking for my Orks. Either way, I look forward to seeing this project progress. Keep up the good work

so here it is my treasures from last years new years eve...
the big blue cone on the right i used for pressmoulds, which i will be doing later. only got one of them and it is my dearest of them.
in the middle you see a construction with atoiletpapperroll and two black cones... this will be a small vessel...
and lots of other uses i havent come up with yet...
vik again^^
Automatically Appended Next Post: hey schnitzel, love your name^^, there is a tv ad thats always tells us: "don´t call it schnitzel" lol and the avatar is very fitting^^
yeah i know this design just scream to be used for orks... i wonder why there aren´t many more zeppelins out there...

A bubble canopy with the gun on the outside of it on the bottom or top of the midsection of the ship could look pretty cool. Or maybe towards the tail end? I don't know. But a bubble dome gunner position sounds neat. Like, WW2 style. The actual name escapes me
And that's an Eldar Bright Lance turret from a Wave Serpent.

as alwyas i use air dry clay, its like the switzerland army knife for me. still have to find a thing its no use for^^. i just took an old mug and put the cla inside and then did a beserker rage press with the cone and presto pressmould^^
when i will use it i add fimo and will cook it in the stove...hope it will work, otherwise i will look mighty stooopid^^
at schnitzel? does that mean i´m that bad in english or what?^^ i think i cant seem to work out what you´ve ment by your added post... well then this might be the essence of "radda" then^^ lol
