1) put the glue on the area you want the grass to be.
2) put it into the static grass
3) blow off / remove excess static grass

by nature it stands up on its own. try it on a spare base to get the hang of it.

well by nature you will have an lots of extra grass on the model. You can try to tap the model against a container to recollect it; or you can just give a gental blow and send it flying to the floor.

That's how I always did it. I also tried to limit the grass to small patches, as less is more IMO.

Warning: too much glue can lead to flat patches of fugly moss-looking fibers, instead of nice standing-up grass.

I generally glue down sand with watered down white glue, then when it dries put another layer of watered down white glue to really cement down the sand, and push little rocks into it.

Then put it down and leave it for a few minutes until a lot of the water has evaporated, and THEN drop little clumps of static grass down, blowing on them immediately from the side to get them to stand up.
