I must admit a guilty pleasure of mine is Total Recall- I know, it's technically 1990, and not really intended to be a B-movie, and sooo full of cheese, but it is pure win as far as I am concerned, especially the sets. You don't realize it, but the ominous slow-moving fan that is required for all proper sci-fi started with Total Recall (or was it Aliens?) one of them

It was Alien, because they went into the guts of the ship trying to find that xenomorph. Aliens we got the cylinder fans as if they aquarium pumps. But the fan in Total Recall was the biggest fan to date.

HAHA, teen? You mean MALE

Ok, so I was inspired to recreate this classic studio terrain building:

However, when I looked at it and tried to plan it out, now I'm not sure:

It's only 5 inches wide, it seems like it should be wider. My enthusiasm has been knocked down a peg TBH.
What do you think? Does anyone know what those pointy bits on top are from? I know they are metal from back in the day, I'll probably substitute the pointy bits from the Pegasus kits, but I was just curious.

No, this was long before CoD- This terrain was even before Necromunda Bulkheads were made, you can tell by the pre-production casts they used in these pics.

I dunno, it just seems too small..

Nah this is way before CoD. Most likely from some obscure terrain kit they had knocking around, im have no idea sorry dave.

It does seem very thin, id just double the width if i were you. Its not like you'd be doing anything to the look of the building by doing that.

This one wins the toaster! They were definitely from the Imperator Titan form Epic Titan Legions.

Sorry to burst in unannounced, I've recently been digging up Necromunda themed threads as our group is about to start up a campaign. Lots of very inspiring posts in this project blog!

I'm actually looking for a well balanced Genestealer Cult list to use in the campaign...anyone have any suggestions?

Check out http://www.empireofghosts.blogspot.co.uk/p/inquisimunda-resources.html for ideas. Whilst it differs quite a bit from straight Necromunda, there are some very nice rules ideas in there.

Thanks for the help! Those are probably worth a fortune by now, I'll substitute I've got some old epic metal titan bitz somewhere around here, I'll never use them, I'll post pics when I run across them...

Now, what about those girder bitz peeking out at the right of the picture?

Never a need to apologize for posting here Fango! You are welcome any time! I'm more of a terrain guy than a list guy, the people who hang out here, such as Vitruvian are the experts there, I'd follow his advice

Dave,

From the figures in the picture, the base of the main building is about 6" wide, with the angled external bracing extending the sides out by about an inch and a half. So, your initial template should be an inch wider. Height is about 6 and a half inches from the top of the baseplate to the top of the roof. The baseplate looks like good ole' fashioned 1/4" MDF.

Well, once I laid it out on a piece of 7"x5" plasticard with a pencil it looks much better to my eye, I didn't have a mini handy @ work, but Brian, look at the 25mm base of the Arbites, it appears to just fit in that 1" stoop.

That 3/4" hollow punch sure came in handy too

Definitely not the Inquisimunda list, or the Terror in the Hive list, way overpowered for regular Necromunda. Maybe these ones: http://www.scribd.com/doc/109988440/Genestealer-Cults-v1-2 although I think they are still overpowered. Anthony Case has decent rules and his stuff is always pretty balanced, found here: http://anthony-case.me.uk/ (bottom of page). I also made my own Cult rules which ought to be pretty well balanced but aren't tested: https://dl.dropbox.com/u/4966868/genestealer%20brood.pdf

Basically, Genestealers may fit in the Underhive thematically but they are far too strong to just have running around in each game. I added them in using something similar to the Special Character rules, but frankly I am not sure if that is still too powerful. A single stealer could quite easily take out an entire gang.

Now, what about those girder bitz peeking out at the right of the picture?

Ooh a spot the bitz game, awesome. I got the Imperator bits but this is harder, I think maaaybe the uprights from a Squig Catapult, or more likely one of the weapon mounts from the plastic Mega Gargant. Weirdly I have both those bits spare.

@Brian, those side angle pieces I'll add on at the end, those are 1/2", just like the other buttresses. It'll be 7" wide at the end

The vertical 'reinforced' supports at the right of the photo are not a part from any GW produced kit as far as I know. Sadly, I think they were in-house resin casts like some of the other pre-production elements shown in those old Necromunda studio terrain pieces. I want to say I remember seeing those supports used on an old 40k themed circular landing pad that was featured several times in White Dwarf articles somewhere around the 2nd edition era...mid-to-late-90s...I will see if I can dig up an issue and scan a picture of it.

Also, I recall a (now discontinued) Forge World Epic 40k building that had those spiky gothic tower thingies on it...But I am confident that the ones in your photo are from the Imperator Titan.

Looking at all those old pics again makes me sad how small the scale of everything is. I always think 40k terrain should dwarf the figures.

In fact, its given me drive to make some large terrain now!

Go forth, and build terrain, then sanctify it by giving it rivets

I've seen the Studio team use preproductions before...I remember seeing the Space Marine Statue months before they ever announced a kit. But those girder bitz, I've seen used several times. You were right about the titan, that's definitely it.

so, once finished, taller than a bastion? Big enough, but also likely claustrophobic inside. 40k either oddly claustrophobic, or scaled so immense that titans can walk inside the buildings!

I always imagine that these buildings are often just entrances to giant underground structures. With the hive constantly being built over older structures and having much more space vertically than horizontally it makes sense.

For all Necromunda rules check out Anthony Case's site first, he's the guy that edits the Community edition of the rulebook. You can find him posting on Yakromunda sometimes, or all his files are archived on that link I posted. Best additional rules by far in terms of balance.
