Excellent execution but to my mind far more Khornate Lord than Ad-Mech leader.

"But me no buts! Our comrades get hurt. Our friends die. Falkenburg is a knight who swore an oath to serve the church and to defend the weak. He'd be the first to tell you to stop puling and start planning. Because what we are doing-at risk to ourselves-is what we have sworn to do. The West relies on us. It is a risk we take with pride. It is an oath we honour. Even when some soft southern burgher mutters about us, we know the reason he sleeps soft and comfortable, why his wife is able to complain about the price of cabbages as her most serious problem and why his children dare to throw dung and yell "Knot" when we pass. It's because we are what we are. For all our faults we stand for law and light.

I know what you mean, but it's not meant to be the same type of Skitarii as the new GW ones (which I also like). It's closer to the feral Skitarii from Titanicus, though they were more Aztec while he is a sort of Greek/Minotaur thing. I figure this titan legion fight Chaos a lot and need shock troops that can actually shock a pretty hardened enemy. Fight fire with fire.

If I made a Khorne lord he would make this guy look like a pussy.

Totally can see these guys charging into a group of CSM and making them retreat.

I can, however, see Khorne Berzerkers relishing the challenge!

Just a quick update, I have been taking some new photos of older models, including this guy that slipped through the net - a Dark Mechanicus chimeric.

I like the Chimeric idea. I'm particularly fond of his one mad eye. Really gives that bestial feel to the model.

Site's looking good. Lots of new stuff up there I see.

I just realised that the Feral Skitarii is made out of parts of that new Khorne lord.

Very nice work.

Thanks, I figured with everyone raving about the cool new Skitarii kit I'd be awkward and make my Skitarii out of one of the worst kits of recent times. Also worst named.

Ha that is a pretty damn cool conversion from a but ugly kit, plus kudos for not following the crowd and being more inventive

I like the look of menace you have managed to captivate in his face, although I kind of feel unnerved that I work in the pork industry now and will never look at a pig the same way again .......

Totally right on both the name and the kit quality.

You've salvaged it brilliantly though.

Got me inspired to make my own. Probably just use the existing kits with slight modifications.

The Soucouyant, vampire witch.

The Soucouyant disguises itself as an old crone, but at night it will peel away its skin to reveal its true form: and wreathed in fire it flies through the dark, looking for victims.

There are more (somewhat self indulgent...) photos on the site, along with a story, an image of its fireball form and an explanation: www.exprofundis.com/mordheim-undead-warband-witch

Dissimbre, the Immortal Sword, Lord of Slaanesh.

Not all that hunt vampires do it for honour or faith or justice, some do it for pleasure. He has a sword that drinks the blood of vampires. Converted from a Necron special character.

I just love all of these so much Bruticus its crazy.

When coming up with a character like Dissimbre do you concept it and find bits that fit or do you look at the sculpt and feel inspired to work with it? I know its a small distinction but I think its so great how your non-obvious choices of bits to work with create some of the more memorable pieces I've seen in years.

Keep 'em up!

I think the bits come first most of the time. I try and find models that aren't used for conversion much or at all, most of the Necron range is good for this, and then try to think of interesting ways to use them, and go through your bits box trying ideas out with blutack. I do often have an idea in my head for an archetype - Slaanesh Lord in this case - but all the rest came after the model is made. Sometimes I just see a cool model and then try to think of how it could possibly be used. Interesting/unusual base model + good pose usually is a winner. Finecast, metal and forgeworld models tend to be more detailed so make a better base.

I think if I was a better sculptor I might try the character first approach more, but a lot of the time, unless you are really comfortable adding the exact elements you need, it's not worth trying this, you end up with compromises somewhere.

Missed this sorry - it's made from soft toy stuffing sprayed black, it was too fragile to use as a trail of smoke like I originally wanted, but worked ok wrapped around the stand.

Very much digging the chaos vampire, both model and background. Extra points for using a Necron as the base - I've been sprinkling my fantasy armies with Necrons over the years as more and more great Eevil Space Robot kits come over, and am pretty set at this point to do full on counts as armies (once GeeDub tells me what's happening with 9E of course).

First up: Mordheim Black Dwarfs using 'Crons

But I digress. Keep up the lovely, dark work!

So I just found this blog. Suffice it to say you have added more in one night to my 40k images/desktop background folder than I have added in WEEKS.

I truly cannot overstate how much in love with Ex Profundis I am atm.

(there are no email subscriptions I guess, eh?)

It isn't "fluff" - it's lore.
