Agreed. Tooling for injection molding is expensive, yes, but unlike resin there is virtually no reason to make production quantities limited other than to inflate the price. The investment is already made and it's pennies to produce more copies.

Not to mention, that was tooled ahead of already paid for Kickstarter models... seems he's just testing what pricepoint the market will bear on his plastic heroes...

Ugh.

Wyrd does tons of limited edition plastics. Every holiday event has them. Seems the practice is growing.

Yeah... $50 for a single, plastic, standard-sided, non-LE (just limited window) mini with one new piece of equipment as content is way too much for me, and I don't think very reasonable as a choice for a company to do when they're that small. if the only option to make it profitable is $50 (assuming they're not just gouging).

This latter part is notable with greywolf's comment: Wyrd seems to take about 3 online sales (the first also coinciding with a con) to go through their LE stock, and is certainly a much larger name in the industry.

I get the same feeling as RITides on the last page, though hope I'm wrong.

If Adam is going to price everything up and start expecting people pay LE resin prices for plastic, well, I've got a hundred (or w/e) plastic minis from the game coming that should last plenty long enough, and then other games to play, too. In short, I wouldn't tolerate that sort of gouging, regardless of how nice the minis are.

Agreed, i went for the $25 Haloween Edition, but this is double for barely more....

compare both, this has one extra picture, 3 axes and a "present", possibly counting the model's base.

Just...... No.
Testing pricepoint is probably the best answer for this. Pricepoint during festive seasons...

I had some paypal 'must spend now' vouchers so i'll only actually pay for shipping & taxes so I bit since I'm getting everything else for the game

but if I hadn't had a bunch of free money to waste it would certainly have been too expensive for me

(then again it will probably be really exclusive as almost everybody will have passed on it due to the price)

Hello Everyone,

Just chiming in here with some transparency.

The holiday special ended up taking an entire tool and sadly I had to price it appropriately. The Halloween release, this xmas timed release, are all sort of experiments on my part.

We need to sell around half a thousand units in order to break even on it. The decorative base that takes up most of the tool is awesome, but its shockingly expensive!

If she sells super well, and we end up far ahead. I'll figure out some way to pay that forward.

Hi Adam, thanks for the transparency.

It's too much for me, but I'm quite glad to hear that it just reflects an expensive design rather than representing a general shift in pricing/policy.

Understandable Adam.

Wish I'd been in time to grab the Flower Witch. Santa knows how hard it is to get a hold of a KD mini after its initial release.

Yea, Adam, love the models, but I'd rather see a collector range using pewter and cheaper model costs a la Reaper. I appreciate plastic for gaming, but I'm more than willing to accept metal for collecting and showing purposes. When you're getting into that price range, I can suddenly start comparing them to other boutique miniatures like Andrea, Pegaso, Knight, Nocturna, etc. Some of those are more expensive, but $25+ for a 28mm versus $30~$50 for 54mm, as a mini collector and painter, makes you pause.

Love the work and bought several, just would like to see volume kick up to bring prices down.

Yes - love a lot of the minis, but until they are more reasonably priced, and available for more than an hour, I'm out I'm afraid.

The flower sorceress was $32 and sold out in about an hour. That's just nuts.

Amazing models again for the most part, that flower witch looks unbelievably fun to paint and would make a great base for a Diablo themed Witch Doctor or something similar.

I'm another soul who's put off by the import fees on top of what are already pricey models, I suppose that can't be helped but I do hope that a distributor in the UK will carry them some day, I can only imagine that the demand would be substantial.

I actually think the minis are very reasonably priced for what they are (and $25-30 isn't bad for a larger scale mini - KD is not 28mm). Just look at GW's plastic clamshell minis... $25 for a plastic 28mm librarian - now that is ridiculous. Comparing KD to other similar scale models - like WWX, they are only slightly pricier as WWX models are $18-$24 for models of resin in similar scale and detail.

I for one am not complaining and love everything adam has produced... can't wait for the dragon and kickstarter stuff! WOOT - DRAGON!!!

+1. Yeah, more sticker shock (and a bit of skepticism) than actual complaint, even at that...

Just to be pedantic, Kingdom Death is not 28mm scale; it's 35mm scale* (from the KS FAQ). In fairness that doesn't really change the sticker shock all that much, I vacillated on the Xmas pin-up over the price and ended up going with the other two offerings (Flower Witch is absurdly amazing, and the Warlords are just gravy).

Scale comparison from the Kickstarter FAQ;
Spoiler:

*Which, to be confusing, Adam details as "comparable to 28mm heroic", which... eh, maybe? I think they are distinct, but YMMV.

Oh. She is not 35mm. Much closer to 54mm in scale actually. The base is 50mm not a 30mm.

Wait, now you've thrown me: is the actual figure (Allison, I presume) not scaled the same as the previous 35mm Twilight Knights (pin-ups and so forth)? I presumed she was the same scale as the other figures, just on a very large scenic base. At 54mm scale she (without the base) would be like the size of a 40k Dreadnaught, WMH Warjack/beast or an Infinity TAG.

Ahh - I was unaware of that also. If's she's 54mm scale (or close to it) that does make it a little easier to stomach the price, and I guess KD does have (or at one time had) some 54mm versions of some of their minis. ( was the Halloween special bigger than usual?)

As gorgeous as the Warlord models look, I really can't justify spending $50 for both of them. If they came individually, I could probably push myself to get one, but $50 is a bit much.

I can only hope that they get a general release down the line in a future project.

I think that was a typo - it would be really odd to make one out-of-scale mini. I'm sure it is bigger counting the scenic base, etc, and this is likely what Adam meant... otherwise, I'd be shocked to see one single mini in "54mm scale" while the rest are "35mm scale".

Well, luckily Adam made a 54mm Preacher, Twilight Knight, and White Speaker to keep her company!

Although I'm not sure Adam has fully confirmed this new release is a larger than normal figure or not yet, or if she's just 54mm due to the base and such.

This is the quote he made above - pretty vague unfortunately.

Those products you link to specifically say they are 54mm, and are titled as such. Unless "closer to 54mm" means he chose an odd, in between scale for this model, he is very likely just counting the base, or it would be described and titled like those. You could measure the base from the pictures (50mm) to double check this figure size.

Really rudimentary comparison image I chopped together. Tried to resize the Xmas Special Climax Knight to the 54mm normal Pinup Twilight Knight. The 54mm Twilight Knight has an image comparing it to the normal 35mm Twilight Knight and a White Marine.

It seems that it's on-scale with the 35mm model when resized to have a base on par with the 54mm model.

Are the 54mm Pinups on a 50mm base like the Xmas special?

If the model is 54mm tall, that base seems a little short. I don't have any of 54mm sculpts to check myself.

Does anybody know how to get hold of the Kingdom Death team? I've tried emailing the Kickstarter support address, but it's been 4 weeks, and no response.

If there's a phone number, I'd happily call them up.

Last time I e-mailed their webstore address I got a response very quickly.

I think there was a post (possibly in the KS topic) that said they weren't back working until today which might be your issue.

They're back as of yesterday.
I managed to pick up a Flower Witch right after the drop.
And then bought a pinup promo (free xmas money) just before they went off sale…

My second order was 1000 over the first order, so there's probably a little lag with Joe taking care of orders all by his lonesome… Plus any emails for combining orders, special requests, etc…

I understand why Joe needs so much vacation time.
