Back to WoW again....sigh. But it's awesome. Very casual now, but that's why I like it again, I just don't have the time to get into deep strategies etc. anymore...and with recruit-a-friend, I get 60 days of free play, a free flying mount and 300% xp. Yay!

Not playing bloody much, thanks to taking one more course than usual this quarter and one of those courses being graduate level. A tiny smattering of DOOM and a wee bit of MechWarrior Online and Path of Exile here and there.

Doing a few matches of MWO mostly every evening, but only for a hour or so. It's a neat game that doesn't consume too much time and is relatively easy to put down.

Other than that, I've finally picked up Fallout 3 again after realising that I never finished it and how much I like the setting. Got me some mods for it, too - damn, it's crazy how much some people have altered the game.

Also, I'm currently downloading Dungeon Defenders which until now I've never heard of before. Usually this sort of stuff really isn't my genre, which explains why this game is actually news to me, but after having my P&P group recommend it to me and hinting at potential multiplayer games, I checked out the videos and then the demo, and it actually looks fun. For those who don't know, it can probably be best described as a sort of "tower defense RPG action hack&slay". Very cartooney graphics, lots of colours, but genuine fun to play. Plus, it's cheap - about 12 bucks for the main game, although you may spend more if you're interested in any of the DLC (-> additional levels and customization options / more classes).

Oh, and a friend and I finished the Colonial Marines campaign yesterday. Without spoiling too much, the ending was a bit anti-climatic and I'm convinced I could've written a plot that was less silly and perforated - and I say that whilst usually having lots of trouble coming up with a "golden thread" for a story.
Still enjoyed the visuals tho. One of these days I gotta peek into its versus multiplayer modes.

My lady and I play this one too - fun free game from PSN.
Can play a map or so and stop, or mess around for hours.

Or we did until Ni No Kuni ate my free time.

God of War Ascension.

I feel the series has desensitised me to epic. As the openings got bigger and bigger, I got less and less enthused. Ascension is the biggest opening yet, dwarfing 3's god and titan felling opening, and yet... it was okay.

The first twenty minutes or so made me want to throw my PC out the window. What's with it and QTEs? After that it's the best game I've played this year...although that's not really saying much. Had a lot of fun for the 10 hours it took me to do everything except collect random crap.

Star Trek taught me so much. Like, how you should accept people, whether they be black, white, Klingon or even female...

I liked those, I never gave them much thought. I liked the look and feel plus the atmosphere was great. But I suppose tastes will vary on the mater of QTEs

I just found that repeating the same QTE 3 times (and in one case 8) killed the tension.
If people like QTEs, good for them, but give me and the millions of gamers like me the option to turn them off and have good old cut scenes.

QTE need to be simple. GoW, iirc, did it right - you could focus on the action because the right direction was indicated by a flaming border at the top, left, right, or bottom, just in your field of view.

I hated Mercenaries 2 with its QTEs for hijacking, especially the end of the game. Space Marine was no better.

Nearly 120 hours in I'm still playing Kingdoms of Amalur. Just finished the second DLC and I'm back to the main quest. I'd say I'm maybe 3/5ths through the game.

And I've got to Level 215 in Avengers Alliance!

Is KoA really good? Playing on PC? If yes, are the controls good? Thinking about buying it

I'm loving it. Playing it on PS3 (my PC would look at Kingdoms and implode at the hardware requirements, yes my PC is that old). I liken it to Skyrim, which I also have, if Skyrim had interesting combat mechanics. And wasn't first person, which is a terrible PoV for melee combat.

It's no spectacle fighter like, say God of War, and it's not a totally open world like, say, Just Cause 2 (which everyone must play!), but it's a good RPG with fun involving combat, interesting characters, and a LOT of things to do. I'm very much against DLC as a concept, but even I was enjoying the game enough to fork out for the two expansion DLC's.

If I have one criticism it's that everyone in the game is the same age (appearance wise). You talk to old fathers who look like bronzed gods who want to rescue their young runaway daughters who look like 25-year-old super models, and then you meet the 25-year-old super model's mother... who is also a 25-year-old super-model. There's a fethton of variation in character models, just not in how old they look. It's bizarre!

I played the demo, it was impressive. I didn't pick it up because I'm sure its massive and I didn't really need another 60 hour rpg right now.

Currently playing:

Bioshock 1 (360), Assassin's Creed III (360), Kingdoms of Amalur (360), and Darksiders (PC).

Kingdoms of Amalur is by far one of the best games I've played in the past year or so. I don't have any of the DLC for it yet, but I've been going through as many of the quests I can and finding all of the various stones in the world. It's taken me at least 50 hours, and I've got about 10 more levels of questing to get through before the end of the game (based on the guidebook for the game, and no I'm not using the guide, I got it cheap because I pre-ordered the big collector's edition one).

My only issue with it is that I feel a melee character can easily be played on any system (console or PC), but I think that a sorcerer needs to be played on the computer. They've got too many spells. Also Chakra are cheap as hell lol .

Can anyone comment on the finesse builds? I've yet to play with them.

I was insanely sad when the company went under

Charkra are awesome.

I forged my own, as I did my trusty long sword. I suggest getting the DLC, especially the Teeth of Naros. It's great.

I probably will, I just play KoA so infrequently... :-\ I played it a lot when it came out to about August, and I pick it up about once every other month, play it for about 2 weeks (so 16 hours a week) and then put it down lol.

Playing "Gears of War: Judgment".
I finished the campaign (and the supplementary campaign "Aftermath") yesterday. Pretty nice.

I'm quite enjoying the new "Overrun" game mode as well. It's like a competitive "Horde" mode! It needs some tweaking though to be something truly great.
