Imagine you have a unit do a split charge, charging a squad of infantry and a tank. After the fight, you defeat the infantry squad and they break. How do you move the models? 1) Follow the tank fighting rules - sit tight and do nothing. 2) Follow the infantry fighting rules - consolidate or massacre Thanks!

I believe that would be because you are never actually "locked" into combat with a vehicle unless it has a WS.....but I could be wrong.

2. You are not locked with the vehicle, but you are locked with the infantry. If you failed to break or destroy the infantry, you'd be forced to Pile In away from the tank, as well.

2 is correct. You can only be engaged with a tank if you charge it on your turn, and after the combat is done, you cease to be engaged with it because you're not locked with it. So you'd follow up on the infantry side of the combat.

Provided you can't be locked with the vehicle, 2. is the answer.
To be locked with a vehicle, the vehicle must have a WS. In the event that you fight a vehicle with WS, then the normal rules of close combat apply.

I saw this happen to a eldar player at a tournie, his eldar squad assualted a leman russ tank and some gaurdsmen. He broke the gaurd and went to try wipe out/consolidate etc but the IG player was like NO your still engaged with the tank. The Judges did not help, and the eldar guy got ripped off especially since it was the deciding turn and that would have made a big difference to the outcome.
