Very good! There are a couple of things I can think of to make this guy really shine.

1. This is dependent on your basing: put more dust and dirt around the base hem of his coat. Mud if the terrain is muddy.

2. Find a few highlights to pick up on. Darks really become dark when there's something light to compare them too. You don't need to wild with it- just a few areas. True- everything would be matted down, or oiled out so that a soldier wouldn't stand out on the battlefield, but this is a piece of art and follows different rules. Art is all about lieing the right way to get the best of both worlds.

Great Stuff I really like the colour scheme. What paint range did you use? Model COlour or GW?

Also how did you prime them? Just standard modelling spary or did you use something else first?

Right now I'm experimenting with a japanese product called Mr Resin Primer. Apparently you spary the model with it before applying a standard modelling spray paint.

First model in 2 years? Man you'd never tell

Look great dude- don't buy a Gorgon just yet- it's definitely going to be released with the plastic DKoK in a few years. That's right- it's already been scanned and approved for plastic making! The DKoK are gonna be far less detailed (since it's impossible to make plastics with those thin and detailed parts).

From some reliable sources on Warseer- including a nod from a certain in the know MOD. But mum's the word

Hey in 2-3 years time I still won't have finished my First Squad

As for an increased level of hilighting ... I am not sure I want to move away from the quite "dark" tones ... almost muted.

I'm liking the muted look. Perhaps another very fine level of highlighting and possibly some muted military green/yellow details to add a nice, but very subtle, contrast. Great looking work as usual, your flamethrower Sally is one of my fave conversions yet I look forward to seeing more from this most definite change in direction.

I haven't made any corrections based on the last critique yet, just tried to get the base and lampost moving ... will finish it all this week I hope.

This may be a silly question, but where did you get those tiny block cut letters for the base?  I've considered adding small names to some of figures as well, but haven't found a method I like yet (my hand isn't quite steady enough to paint on nice block letters like that).

Thanks,
Keith

Actually the 1.5mm letters are Plasticard, they were made in England, but sadly production stopped when the casting die had a fault and they decided not to replace it.

Very Very nice!

I was reading through an old WD the other day that had rules for the DKK.. and it mentioned the Death Riders.. I've even heard FW has started prototypes...

The broken bitz on the base are a very nice touch.. the whole squad comp is looking good too...I have a source to get more plasticard letters when you run out. Perhaps to re-pay the favor of inspiring me on to using MV lenses way back when..

The lamp-post could use a propaganda/event flyer though.. most all city posts are covered with some sort of garage notice or another..

Hobbes, can you share your source for the plastic letters with the rest of us, or is it a limited quantity kind of thing and you're keeping the goodies for yourself?

I believe they're from a model train company, right? I think I've seen that type of thing before at my local hobby shop. Of course that shop is in my home town a province away, but still :p
