Subject: Are Terminator Command Squads still legal for Dark Angels?

So, after getting my copy of Codex DA today, and drooling over what I wanted to do with the upgrade sprues, I started to read through the book and noticed something interesting. The Terminator command squad seems to no longer exist as an HQ choice. While the codex does state that any Librarian, Captain, Chapter Master, or Chaplain may have a command squad accompany them onto the battlefield, the rules seem to be exclusively for characters in power armor. Further, in the rules for Belial (master of the Deathwing), it states that if he's on the board, "one Deathwing terminator squad may choose the following upgrades:", and goes on to detail upgrading that squad with a standard bearer and terminator Apothecary. However, several of the "army in action" shots feature Terminator Chaplains and Librarians with a 4-man command squad, and the rules for Drop Pods do include rules for characters dropping with attached squads, and doesn't make any exceptions for the rule only being for special characters in power armor. Is this a situation where we wait for the FAQ, fall back to the main Codex: Space Marines, or simply assume that the Terminator Command Squad is no longer valid?

Nope. No more termie command squads for DA.
The squad belial attaches to is considered his ad hoc "command squad".
The pics lie like a dog.

Eyuck - I was afraid of that.
Shame you can't purchase a 4 man squad instead of 5. If you want to do Deathpods still, that means you'd either need a pod just for the special characters, and that just seems dicey.

Neither the IC nor the Deathwing squad can purchase a Drop Pod anyway, so that's not happening. It's also worth noting that Command Squads in the Dark Angels book don't count as a single unit with the IC... they're a seperate unit that just doesn't use up a FOC slot. Edit: And after a quick flick through the codex, I can't find any pics of a 4-man Command Squad... The only pics I can find of an IC with accompanying Terminators is the pic on page 69 of the Chaplain with 5 Deathwing Termies, the one inside the front cover of the Librarian with 5 Termies, and the one on page 70 (the 2-page army spread) that shows the Chaplain, a Belial conversion, and 6 Terminators. (Which still isn't legal)

"Chaplain, a Belial conversion, and 6 Terminators. (Which still isn't legal)" Maybe that's the remnants of 2 different squads after a firefight?

I don't actually think it was a nerf. Definently more finesse, and more complex to build an army out, depending what you want to do, but a lot of fun, nasty tricks.

Posted By BZArcher on 03/05/2007 1:37 PM I don't actually think it was a nerf. Definently more finesse If they made a change, and now the army requires more skill to play with than before, doesn't that automatically qualify as a nerf? You put in the same skill that you used to put in, and the army would be inferior to its previous incarnation. Now you must use more skill to gain the same amount of work. That's a nerf.

"The last known instance of common sense happened at a GT. A player tried to use the 'common sense' argument vs. Mauleed to justify his turbo-boosted bikes getting a saving throw vs. Psycannons. The player's resulting psychic death scream erased common sense from the minds of 40k players everywhere. " - Ozymandias |

So did the DA get Nerfed?? or was it just Deathwing?? the proper term is now "fluffed" unfortunately fluff does not always equal tabletop effectiveness both the ravenwing and deathwing were specificly weakend to fit fluff and force you to take a general battle company force (or elements of it and RW/DW) to make an effective DA army. while it is still possible to take a pure DW and RW with the rules in the new C: DA it is far more effective with more options to use C:SM to make a DIY elite or fast force.
