Ol' Blighty

I've been fiddling around with my home recently, and built a thief trap, though it's useless in single player. It's to get some practice.
Basically, in my vault of chests, I have everything labelled- "Wool and dyes", "farming goods", "cobblestone", ect. and at the end of the room is a chest marked "valuables", behind an iron door, the interior made of obsidian. You press the button and go inside. The door closes behind you, you have no way out, there's nothing but a single flower in the chest and you need a diamond pick to get out. You are officially screwed. I come in, kill the offending player/rob him blind/get the server leader to kick him.

I think the button's a tad too obvious, maybe putting a pressure plate one side and a plank of wood on the other. If the thief's half as rushed as I think (s)he'll be, then he'll look inside, see wood and go in, thinking it's a pressure pad.

Perhaps but some dynamite in.

Recently I unintentionally made a suicide booth. Basically it looks like a normal wooden house from the outside and the inside as well. However the walls are filled with water, as it was an attempt to make a fire proof wooden structure.

Anyway, you walk in set the walls on fire and wait. Either you will die in the fire or drown from the water as it has a steel door with only a button to get in. It also has obsidian in the walls, added on later. I just need to wait and hope for a stove or fireplace like device so it can be linked onto the door opening and I have a nice thief trap.

I would put TNT in, but I am always unlucky with creepers.
If I have a bow, I never see one.
If I don't have a bow, I mostly don't see one.
If I'm mining with minimum resources, I see one.
If I manage to kill one, it never drops gunpowder.
I've been playing for around 1 1/2 months now, and have collected...4 gunpowder.

Weird. I've collected plenty of gunpowder in three days, enough to make three TNTs.

I used the "Glacier" seed and built a pretty awesome floating fortress from the skyberg right by the spawn. I even set up a self destruct system with TNT and everything, until I accidentally hit the button and destroyed a quarter of my fortress.

When will this moment pass?

What coordinates on that floating fort?

Unless you spawn far away at any rate. I was lucky, I spawned within sight of it.

Isn't it cool?

I made it into a floating tower with four separate bastions, each leading into a portal to the Nether. I even started building a glass and stone double pyramid, but then I got bored, started to dismantle the pyramid, then got bored of that and started a new game.

That's how a lot of my saves end up, actually. I start building a pyramid and get bored.

What I need to do is use a map editor to create a 50x60x50 hole on the map down to bedrock, with the last four levels being bedrock . And then create a 25x120x25 tower on the inside, out of iron blocks.

Hrm...

is there any good place to find info about minecarts?

im still trying to figure out if you can use a minecart train with boosters without any flying off the tracks if/when they bump eachother.

im thinking if i make a single rail with boosters for going in both directions and i have a water channel for them to land in so they dont bump and then they drop onto a track loop and the powered minecart just pushes them around into a holding area and then into another water channel to space them out for re-launch

The minecraft wiki has good info on minecarts http://www.minecraftwiki.net/wiki/Minecart.

Me and three friends are currently doing team based pvp, its a laugh .

i have read that wikki and a few other forums/threads and watched videos but nobody mentions if minecarts will eventually explode from bumping too much

i have been thinking of making a portal into the nether just to check it out and see what fun can be had there.

as odd as it may be i do not intend to construct a normal portal, no i intend to pay homage to Back to the Future and make a collider minecart into the portal.

Do not, by any circumstances, ride ANYTHING into a portal.

You get stuck in the bedrock at the ceiling of the nether and cannot get out without hacks.

LoL wise words indeed, the Minecraft gods are fickle and will punish you for something that seems cool and awesome like a collider portal thing.

They'll just spit on you as you flail with your head stuck in the bedrock of the nether

Ok, my coordinates are as follows (while on top of the mountain) X= -66.97, Y= 104.62, and Z=-209.47

Note: The top of the mountain will need some leveling out, as it is NOT flat, I just made it that way with a little dirt.

Mattieu~~~~ It's not that eldar are bad, it's that they require a lot of intergration between units. Also, that doesnt prove anything other than GW has a huge hard-on for marines, and, given the option between making a xeno the best psykers or making a marine the best psyker, they will 9 times out of 10 choose the marine.

So Ive been lurking this thread for ages, I think I posted a castle a ways back in the 30's, but Ive noticed a ton of people saying how they are exploring the cave systems they find.

Dont do it. Some of you may have realized they go on forever, you cannot simply "explore them". You will get lost and die.

By all means, map them out, make a base camp in there, even use a nether portal to teleport back to your base (by having another nether portal in the nether that is in your base), but dont just continue exploring expecting to find a an end to them, if you simply continue, you will get lost, or worse. Mine within a safe proximity of lava and your base.

Couple pointers I have found useful:
-wall off dead ends or previously mined cave sections with COBBLESTONE. Cobblestone will not usually form naturally, and will be a clear indicator not to go down that path
-Right Hand Side Torch Rule! If you have troubles with finding your way back through caves, when travelling away from the entrance, place torches on the right hand side. No matter where you go, if you walk with them on your left, you will find your way out. You can also use redstone torches to make T-junctions and stuff.
-Always Have a redstone compass. It may only lead you back to your original spawn and not your bed, but its better than nothing.
-press F3 and note down your houses coordinates. It truly saves lives.
-Make chests at checkpoints through your caves and dump any valuables that would be ridiculous to carry with you (diamond, ingots, etc).

and haha yeah...dont ride stuff into the nether...

What booster are you using?

Try using this one:
TT------------------------TT
TTTTTTTTTTTTTTTT
TTTTTTTTTTTTTTTT
TT------------------------TT

T= Track of course
- = empty

I haven't tested it for trains but it allows both carts to act as transport and booster at the same time allowing two people to move at once. When it reaches the end they loop back and go back along the track again, indefinitely even by themselves. I'm not sure if anyone has come up with it yet, but I originally made it for bridges. Courners seem to work as well so perhaps it can be developed into a loop and allow a train. They also seem to build up enough momentum so that if one cart stops the other could continue on. I have not had an issue with one flying off the track yet, but I think the shorter the track the more likely it will be.

well i had bit of a breakthrough experimenting and learning how to make boosters. i started with a simple oval loop with a booster in the middle to boost me as i went down each straight track. then i tried the single direction auto-return. i found out that powered minecarts cannot be boosted at all while storage minecarts can be boosted.

it was at this point that i started testing multiple carts on the same track going in the same direction so i made my auto-return booster shorter. the issue i started to have was the timing of when to get the second cart going to hit the booster before the first hit the booster. apparently my loop was too short and the carts started bouncing off eachother and then it happened. i took my boster cart off and i noticed the other 2 carts were still going around all on their own.

they were not linked up like in the super-collider booster, there was a visible space between them. i added my booster cart to the mix and it kept working. it wasnt untill i started bouncing into the carts did they link like the super-collider.

i think im going to use the supercollider as my actual engine for my minecart train, i figure if i have a switch at the stations then the engine can go into its own closed loop untill it is needed again.
