Is hte lost and the damed army still viable with the new codex, or is it no longer a legal army?

Adrift within the vortex of my imagination.

Its still tourney legal, just checked today. Though Chaos is the top priority codex for change acording to GW, so it wont last long.

The list is very open, you need to know the ins and outs of both Guard and Chaos codexes, more important than the handful of unique units. With a little creativity you can make just about anything from the list.

IMHO its the nastiest list in the game, I rank it higher than Iron Warriors.

Their weakness is Anti-tank, but they can be a tough army.

The LatD list is not allowed in GW Tourneys in the UK, but are still ok in the US.

Blackmoor - "Their weakness is Anti-tank, but they can be a tough army."

Where do you get that idea? They can choose from:

H.Q. - Greater Daemon or tooled up Chaos Lord.

Elites - 0-1 Obliterators, Big Mutants

Troops - 0-2 las/plas CSM, Traitors with lascannon, infiltrating Traitors with melta guns

Fast Attack - 0-1 Raptors or Bikes

Heavy Support - Traitor Basilisk

You may well wish to choose different non anti tank options from the Chaos Codex instead, but any part of the force organisation chart can be maxed out anti-tank if you wished except the Fast Attack.

In my LatD I use 2 oblits and 2 lascannons in CSM squads. That is not a lot of anti-tank.

Big mutants are slow and awful.

Traitors are expensive and then they have to pay a lot for a lascannon. When you give traitors a lascannon then they become targets. Have you seen the leadership of traitors? Any shooting at them and they will run off the board. If you make them a large squad and give them and aspiring champion, then they are a lot of points for a very crappy unit. I like my traitor squads to be 6 guys with an auto cannon so they will be ignored.

The pie plates on the heavy support can be used as anti-tank fire in an emergency, but they have better uses.

The fast attack options are ok too, but they are generally expensive.

You'd think so, yeah.  But I'm surprised at how often my las-cannon traitor squads survive well into games.  Usually long enough to get off an opportunity shot or 2 -- and sometimes all game.

I think because opponents figure they can take them out whenever they want.  Now, it's true the traitors melt easily under fire.  But I'm usually giving my opponent other, more pressing problems to deal with (leaping mutants hurtling forward with icons, bloated mutants, chaos spawn, chaos hounds, demon prince....)  Often one or two of the traitor squads will survive, huddled in their hidey holes.  Sometimes with a tank kill or two to their credit.

The key is keeping the traitor squads cheap, fielding at least 3, and deploying them cunningly (in cover, taking advantage of their infiltration skill to set up deep in my zone, usually, with lines of fire on big targets).

Theoryhammer suggests these guys are underpowered and vulnerable.  But game by game, tactical circumstances often keep them alive and dangerous.

For troops I normally take:

30 Mutants w/Boss and AC
15 Leaping Mutants w/Boss and AC
6-8 CSM w/Las/Plas
6-8 CSM w/Las/Plas
6 Traitors w/Autocannon
6 Traitors w/Autocannon

I play a Word Bearers heavy list with lots of demons, so I don't have many points to throw at traitors. Also since I want them to help out infiltrating an icon forward, I don't want them to stand out.

I might try some lascannon/plasma traitors. I do like the auto cannon because it gives you 2 shots at BS 3 and there is always light vehicles or something that is worth shooting at.

Versteckt in den Schatten deines Geistes.

Traitors are expensive, but not prohibitively so. Four squads with Lascannons don't set you back that much. I usually take 4 plus 2 squads of Bloated Mutants led by Bosses/Asp Champs.

They're so cheap that losing them isn't a big deal, and they have Lascannons and Infiltrate which increases their utility.

They're not the only AT I bring, but they're a stable core.
