Ok, I've got the Vampire Counts and the old Undead Army book. What other sources are there for major fluff on the father of the undead, Nagash the Black? I'm especially looking for details about his life before he turned into a giant warpstone-twisted half-demon.

Adrift within the vortex of my imagination.

The old undead book contains all the info you are going to get. It covers Nagash in great detail.

You can pick up some further hints from Tomb Kings, and also oddly enough from the High Elf book. The current High Elf book states:

"However he is the greatest living mage in the world, and his mastery of the magical arts is unsurpassed by any other living creature. It is claimed that his power is on a par with the Great Necromancer Nagash, so it is fortunate that Teclis has devoted his life to thwarting the powers of Chaos and death."

n'oublie jamais - It appears I now have to highlight this again.

I did a google search for 'Nagash warhammer' and found a heap of sites.
Here's a GW one (do't know if its a reprint from an old VC book though)

I'd have thought there'd be at least some information in the Khemri book as well, though whether there's much compared to the other sources I couldn't say.

Yoor Speeshawl too Gawd!

They changed the fluff on him from the original undead book. He used to be the all father of every undead creature now he is more of a cranky old man who never comes out of his house.

Only now do I realize how much I prefer Pete Haines' "misprints" to Gav Thorpe's "brainfarts." :Abadabadoobaddon

Try old empire book before warhammer became easy to read for kids, Nagash was a empire wizard who played with necromantic spells which is against the theoginy of the empire basically he found a way to live forever with the aid of warpstone tried to ressurect the kenrian armies to attack the empire which annoyed the tomb kings as they were due to rise human gods in so many thousand years but he rasied them as budles of dessicated flesh and rag, so they got a bit miffed he had a war with them, then got sorta killed and got raised again (BREATH) he met vlad and rest of carstien boys herich kemmler and krell down pub in nuln karl franz walked in said oy oy lads i'll get em in nagash got off with isabell von carstien vlad smacked him one in chops they all got barred and that was last i heard of him........all true but the pub bit.

Or theres a great book that I have called The World of Warhammer Published in 98 and it is filled with fluff about every race, as well as people/timelines and events (well of course up to that date so no Archon) An it includes 11 pages about Nagash and the Undead, as well as other info about him in the skaven section.

Ok heres the deal, the 5th ed undead army book has his entire life storie as others have stated. There might be more on him from the old 5th ed Empire, Skaven books. Also the old rule books might have something but who knows.

The 6th edition tomb king book states Nagash was a Khemrian priest, making a bid for the throne and he was cast out, then came back and raised all the Tomb Kings.

You Can't use a ketchup bottle to represent a Bloodthirster? What about the ketchup packets glued upright to bases representing Bloodletters? Or the packets glued to cav bases representing Flesh Hounds? Or even the little ketchup bottles as Juggernauts?

All you need is a hammer to help represent where each model died.

You know there's a novel about him later in the year yes ?

Just got 'Nights Dark Masters' (the WFRP guide to vampires) last week. There's some good Nagash stuff in there and its a must for any VC players. The background, especially for the bloodlines, is so much cooler than the VC army book.

@ chapgrabthar: that's a title with some hot competition there. Me? I always would have voted for the old Tyranid warriro model. What an abomination. Which, of course makes it appropriate, but no less rip-out-your-eyes-andsear-your-soul ugly.

There is a new WHFB book coming out (IIRC the series is called 'time of legends') which is covering Nagash.
There is to be one on Sigmar and various other notable legendary (i.e. long dead) characters from WHFB.
I'd also expect one on Aenarion..

The other one on the list is about Malekith. Aenarion would be a good one. Grimnir would also be pretty cool. After that who do you have? Orion and Ariel? The Von Carsteins? Heinrich Kemmler? The mind boggles.

I just went and had a look on wikipedia and it claims that Nagash will be a special charater in the TK update

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Nagash_(Warhammer)

- which makes absolutely no sense (but I guess it is wikipedia) because if you read the fluff at the start of the current VC it kind of suggests that he controlled vampire armies which attacted the TK - so why would he be a special character in a TK army?

I'm about a third of the way through the Nagsh book at the moment. Surprisingly I'm enjoying it more than the Sigmar one which I wasn't expecting at all.

Just to clarify each of the announced series-- Sigmar, nagash and the Elves is a trilogy btw.

Be intrigued to see how they deal with the inevitable crossover aspect when it comes to things like Sigmar fighting Nagash etc etc.

It is fitting that Nagash is the subject of the ultimate in thread necromancy.

I remembered answering this thread the first time around, and was suprised to find just how long ago that was.

Well, I guess if BL are releasing a novel about him which, according to it's blurb, states that Nagash was a powerful Priest King 2000 years before the time of Sigmar, then the whole previous story (empire wizard, discovered necromancy, went mental) is kinda pointless - It'll all be overwritten soon...

Err not quite sure what you're saying there. That's been the origin of Nagash for quite some time now. AFAIK he's never been an Empire Wizard at all.

In fact he wrote/writes the first books about necromancy.

Are you getting confused with Kemmler or someone else perhaps ?

Ok, im going by memory since ive read a few bits over time.
nagash was a priest, he was cast down for plotting against his king, he became vengeful and unleashed a curse thus creating the tomb kings, in turn they forever hate him for what he has done to them, never resting untill he is slain.
in other parts of fluff he is alot like ahriman, constantly in search of secrets and more knowledge, but never has enough, slightly unstable, i think its this power that has turned him into a demi god, not sure though as i cant find anything that gives detail on why he is so big.

Suffused with the dying memories of Sanguinus, the warriors of the Death Company seek only one thing: death in battle fighting against the enemies of the Emperor.

I have to say that I thought the Nagash book wasn't that good. I mean, sure, he was all evil and stuff...but.....not that competent....

Oh. Climactic battle at the end? Utter crap. I mean, things are all bad, and some n00bs come in and
Spoiler:
shoot him with guns
, and somehow this makes all his spells fall apart and make him lose.

Also, i wasn't a fan of how it jumped back and forth in time.

"I went into a hobby-shop to play m'self a game,
The 'ouse Guru 'e up an' sez "The Guard is weak and lame!"
The Chaos gits around the shelves they laughed and snickered in my face,
I outs into the street again an' grabbed my figure-case."
Oh it's "Angels this" an' "Space-wolves that", and "Guardsmen, go away!";
But it's "Thank you for the ordnance" when the Guard begins to play,
O it's "LOOK AT ALL THE ORDNANCE!" when the Guard begins to play.."
