In fact he wrote/writes the first books about necromancy.

Are you getting confused with Kemmler or someone else perhaps ?

Okay.
NONE of you have heard of the Liber Necris? Go to your local GW store and get it, really insane read.

Nagash was the king of the Khemri during the time of the Elves. Khemri's capital was Nehekara, the city of the Liche priests. Their existence was founded when Settra sought to escape death, using their meager power and alchemy to extend his life by hundreds of years, but eventually fell captive to age. On his death bed, he cursed the Liche Priests who never truly stopped their work. Soon after, Nagash's brother reigned as Settra's heir. Nagash, consumed by greed and the need for power, killed his brother and took the throne. During his extended reign, he captured three Dark Elf pirates, one of which was a sorceress. She taught him of Dhar (Dark Magic), and how to bend the winds of magic. After attempting the Great Awakening spell, he was defeated by the united Khemri empire lead by the Lahmian kingdom. He spent years in hermitage, extending himself with necromancy and fed upon powdered warp stone until he could raise the dead with a mere thought. After establishing Nagashizzar, he captured the Lahmian king after spreading a disease that wiped out most of the mortals of Khemri. Longer story short, the King was aided (indirectly of course) by the Council of Thirteen who created a sword that could kill the 15 foot tall skeleton.

But seriously, go buy the Liber Necris and/or the Liber Chaotica. They're insanely good books.

I think it's interesting how the current tomb kings army book tells about how the surviving tomb king is locked in nagash's dungeon, only to be freed secretly and given a weapon by some 'dark and hunched figures'.

In earlier warhammer army books the story went that the skaven were involved, so the implication there is that the skaven council are the rescuers.

The king goes on to battle Nagash. But that's not the way the story went in the earlier fluff, was it? I thought in the earlier stories Nagash was the pawn of the skaven in the inital scheme of things, only to become great much later.

Do the stories fit together? I can't remember. Or was it the skaven that initially helped him become powerful so he could overthrow the tomb kings, and then he betrays the skaven later, so in revenge they help the surviving tomb king to get back at him? That seems right actually...

N.B.

Don't got worrying about Nagash attempting the Great Summoning ever again. It was only made possible (and even then didn't completely work) due to the vast desposits of Warpstone in Cripple Peak.

After he was defeated, it took decades for him to regain his physical form. When he got back to Cripple Peak, it was infested by Skaven. He killed them all in a single night, and then found out they had gutted the Warpstone mines, meaning he cannot cast the spell again until he has enough of the stuff.

Lets just hope he never gets to Morrslieb!

They are indeed interesting books.

Anyone have a clue why I'm seemingly being corrected for stating the exact same thing Mr. Cognitave is going on about ?

Point of order though : sadly it seems a lot of the stuff in the Liber Necris is being dropped or ignored by GW, especially the stuff to do with the alchemy of souls etc. Shame really.

The poor man really has a stake in the country. The rich man hasn't; he can go away to New Guinea in a yacht. The poor have sometimes objected to being governed badly; the rich have always objected to being governed at all
We love our superheroes because they refuse to give up on us. We can analyze them out of existence, kill them, ban them, mock them, and still they return, patiently reminding us of who we are and what we wish we could be.
